Attended a Valentines cookie decorating class. It was fun to be creative. The owner is very nice and she had her daughter as a helper too. The cookies were delicious plus she shared her recipe. There were several tip selections so we were able to be very creative. I am not the best decorator but everyone I gave a cookie to said it was a super yummy cookie and they loved the frosting too! They only do this once a year so if you want to do this watch for it next year. They do have cupcake and cake decorating classes if you like all year long. Support local! read more

I love their cupcakes! The Milkshake flavor is great! The staff are really helpful and just as sweet to customers as their cupcakes. I am very picky about the consistency and "moistness" of my cupcakes; they have this on lock. It's important to note that I stopped at about 4:30 in the afternoon, so you know that these weren't baked within the hour. I absolutely hate stale baked goods; these were on point. read more

Cupcake...yum. This place has a decent selection of cupcakes ready to choose from. About 16 options. Plus another 20+ cake pops options. And about dozen pretzel stick options. This is the first cupcake place I've been to that has that many options for cupcakes, cake pops, and pretzel sticks. We bought a few of each type. Loved them all. Kids loved the pretzel sticks a lot. We ate here after having pizza at Gusto's next door. We try really hard to support local Johnston businesses, but we will probably not go back here again. Maybe it was because it was the end of the day, but our cupcakes were rock hard (the cake part). I was surprised that they didn't have more selection, and many of the items were very similar. We purchased 4 cupcakes, and the group like 1 of the 4 - the rest were just too dry. The staff was awesome, and you can tell they work hard. The layout isn't ideal for dining in, and most people just do take-away. I would suggest that you come here if you are really close by and see if your experience is different - but about 5 miles away "Bentley's Bakery" in Urbandale has about the same selection and we liked their cupcakes much better. read more

We ordered our Bride and Groom wedding cake from here. We ordered a two-tier chocolate and white cake with butter creme. For a cake costing $130.00 we expected it to be delicious, but we were not impressed. The cake hardly looked like the design we gave them, but most disappointing was that the cake was VERY DRY. Stopped in about 1:15 pm on a Sunday. We picked 2 cupcakes, 4 cake balls, and a box of chocolate dipped Oreos. 1) The cupcakes were $2.50 a piece. They are 0.50 more than Scratch Cupcakery, and smaller (estimate about 75% of the size). 2) The cake of the cupcakes tasted worse than what I can make from a box from a flavor perspective. Additionally, the firmness tasted like they were a day old. 3) The frosting was firm and very sweet. I have a high sugar tolerance, but this was beyond me. Maybe what others want. 4) The inside of the cake balls had a very grainy texture, and tasted worse than the cake of the cupcake. I'm not sure if $1.50 is high for a cake ball or not. 5) The chocolate dipped Oreos tasted good. Got 8 for $4, which seems like a reasonable price. Summary: For a place called Cupcake Addict, they're cupcakes and cake balls are not good or worth the money. They can seemingly dip things in chocolate though. I have no plans to return. I can't imagine just after lunch would be a bad time to visit. Others have said they went later and liked the cupcakes. I'm not sure if what they had was actually better, or if they've never had good cupcakes. read more

Stopped by after lunch nearby. The cupcake was dry and hard. Literally the worst baked good I have had. Tried taking a couple bites and ended up just throwing it in the garbage. What's maddening about a place like this is that someone KNOWS how old the baked goods are. To try and pass something as fresh, when a business knows it's not, is duping the customer. We were driving by and saw a new cupcake store. We got 2 cupcakes. Almost the absolute worst cupcakes that we have ever tasted. The cake was so dry and flavorless. And the icing had no flavor and just tasted straight up like lard. Very disgusting. I definitely will never be back. You might want to take a few lessons from Scratch and even maybe Small cakes. The lady that helped us(my family) was incredibly nice. The raw cookie dough, don't even get me started it was so delicious. It has no eggs, so it is only for eating. The first time I tried this place it was not a good experience but I've given it a chance 4 or 5 times now and unfortunately my experience has never been good. These were not great, just ok. I went in a couple of weeks ago so this is what I remember. The chocolate flavor seemed a little off but I couldn't put my fimger on it. I tried one of their cake balls and it was a grainy texture from the dryness of the cake. If the cake was moister and mixed well with a good, creamy frosting or cream cheese then it would work. If you are not yet putting simple syrup on your cupcakes than i would suggest doing so. The frosting was very sweet and not creamy. I liked the variety of their flavors, that they sold cake balls, and that they sold mix to take home. I will stick to Scratch Cupcakery though. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. I ordered a dozen of their cupcakes. 6 chocolate 6 vanilla, with yellow frosting. That's all I requested. The cupcakes tasted absolutely terrible. They were also very dry and stale tasting even though I picked them up at 10am, when they open. The frosting was disgusting. Not impressed. Passed this store a few times and decided too finally stop in and give it a try. Spent way to much for what I got in return. Cupcakes were dry and hard, with little to no flavoring. Couldn't tell the difference between what was a lemon cupcake versus a vanilla cupcake. I'm a frosting lover and was disappointed to taste what seemed like a straight up stick of butter. The cake balls were better, but still lack flavor in many of the choices. Cupcakes, cake balls and pretzels are decorated nice. While I found the service to be polite, friendly and very accommodating, I did find the promised product -- cake balls -- to be lacking in decor based on the description provided to me upon ordering. The flavor of the cake balls was very good for the items I ordered...but upon pick-up I decided to get an additional 12 cake balls in two different flavors. I was very disappointed with the flavor and texture. As this was my first time special ordering cake balls, I'm pretty sure I will try another local provider. We arrived late in the day, so the cupcake selection was limited. I had the Triple Peanut Butter, and my wife a chocolate/butterfinger/caramel. Both were delicious! Moist and flavorful cake. Creamy and not too heavy/not too light frosting. My wife and I noticed that the cupcakes were slightly smaller than ones we've bought elsewhere, but this was not an issue since they were so satisfying. This was our first visit at this business. Very disappointed. Bought a dozen yesterday. The lemon and the raspberry lemon had very little of any lemon flavor. The icing on most taste more like shortening. One redeeming cupcake was the chocolate chocolate as there was some chocolate flavor. The peanut butter, again the icing was not to our liking, and the only way we knew it was peanut butter was the very small Reese's cup piece on top.
