Myself (Barb Wiedenman) and my sister, Cindy Gordon, both reside in Ankeny where we have lived most of our lives. We know the community well and wanted to add something that was missing. Add sweetness to your life, eat cake is our famous slogan! We tried so many recipes until we got it perfect! We spent a lot of time in the kitchen together getting it just right. Once we had the perfect texture, taste and flavors nailed down, next up was the size. Who doesn’t love a delicious cake to themselves? I know I do, so that’s when we came up with the Baby Cakes! At first we started with just a few flavors and have added more over time and we do have some seasonal ones. Along with our Baby Cakes we also have Cakelets! Those are bite size cakes! The portion sizes were just right--enough to leave me comfortably full without feeling stuffed. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and would definitely consider coming back!

Their honey brown sugar latte deserves special recognition. So many honey lattes either taste overly artificial or like the honey is barely there at all. Not this one. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and it's honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. I could drink gallons of it. The quality is fantastic and I've found myself thinking about that latte long after I've finished it. My only complaint is that I don't live closer. If I did, I'd probably be there every day.

Overall they have a killer menu and a cute & homey sitting area and patio. With so many coffee and caffeine drinks to try- we'll be back!

I was waffling over the Kona iced coffee, so a worker kindly gave me a sample. It was stronger, sweeter, and creamier than I expected, so I happily purchased a cup. The shop itself is small and can get a bit crowded, so it's probably not the best spot if you're planning to sit and eat inside. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Ankeny though. I can already imagine grabbing donuts and coffee to enjoy at the park with the kids once the weather warms up!

The ube in the rice krispie treats was very subtle and I'm not sure what the black components were. It looked like black sesame but we couldn't taste it. The latter three items were more appealing.

The executive chef, Nik Pugmire, was gracious and accommodating, and is clearly exceptionally talented.
