I stopped by Cupboard Cafe with my family on the way back from our Christmas tree outing in North Carolina. I have been to Cupboard Cafe many times before, but not for quite some time. The interior has changed a bit and now sports a coffee and ice cream bar. But if you look past the kitsch, the food really is worth the stop. I had a vegetable plate that was pretty awesome. Everything tasted freshly prepared. The cheddar biscuits that they give you at the beginning of the meal are amazing! My sister strongly vouches for the club sandwich. It was huge! Cupboard Cafe might resemble a lot of other kitschy roadside places, but the food sets it apart. I'm glad that it has stuck around for all of these years. read more

Stopped here on the way back from Asheville to Atlanta. We had seen the signs for Dillard House which put us in the mood for Southern comfort food, but when we looked it up on the web, it was not quite what we were looking for. A quick search on Yelp while on the road pointed to Cupboard Cafe as an alternative more to what we were looking for. We were very impressed - ole fashioned Southern comfort food done properly. I had the onion-encrusted chicken, which came with a peach glaze that was both wonderful and completely not what I expected - think applesauce, but with peaches, not at all sticky-sweet as many fruit-based sauces are. Butternut squash souffle (very good!) and potato salad as sides, and my partner picked up a few fried pies to go. Service was great, friendly ladies all round. We don't get up to the mountains that often, but we will definitely come back here on the rare occasion that we travel up 441 again. read more

Not bad for a cheap, quick brunch or lunch, but nothing special. I got an omelet, which had plenty of bacon and cheese, but the onions were a bit burnt, which was very odd. The toast and grits were pretty weak - grits tasted instant and toast was just boring generic bread. The service was nice and the store attached had some interesting souvenirs (Tabasco flavored jelly beans and non-alcoholic moonshine - whatever that is). read more

Stopped here for a late lunch on the way from the Smoky Mountains back to Atlanta. It's an old-school roadside southern restaurant. You enter through a touristy gift shop. The food is solid. The fried chicken was seasoned nicely, although the breast was a little dry. The sides we tried: -mac n cheese was just so-so -butternut squash souffle was very sweet, but delicious -fried okra was great -cornbread was decent, cheddar biscuit was pretty good, yeast roll was not as good. -banana pudding for dessert. YES. Best thing we tried. The real deal. The food reminds me of Mary Mac's or Colonnade in Atlanta. Everything is mostly pretty good, everything is entirely un-healthy, and the recipes don't seem to have changed in half a century. Won't knock your socks off (with the possible exception of the excellent banana pudding), but not bad. Service was very friendly and quick. Good value / low prices. Overall a good experience. Worth a try. read more

Perhaps this is the place that inspired the Cracker Barrel concept. Family owned and operated. My roast beef dinner had rich gravy with sautéed mushrooms and came with two sides. My husbands prime rib looked great and he liked it ( didn't offer me a taste ). Our friend had a cold plate of different salads, picked beets, ripe tomatoes that looked good and he really liked. The server was having a rough time but the rest of the crew made it right. Delicious dinner. read more

We went here with SO's family for mother's day. I love the little shop up front with everything you can think of. They had some nice smelling candles, stuffed toys(my fav was the stuffed German Shepherd), key chains and other random stuff. We were a party of 8 and while they were setting up our table, we perused the front area. We got seated in ~15 minutes and placed our drink orders. SO got beef nachos and the rest of the table shared the cheese nachos and that was aight. I got the fried grouper with potato salad and rice n gravy. It was just okay. They also have a salad bar but i didnt check it out. It's not a place i would pick to go out to eat if im in the area just because i dont think the food is exceptional. read more

Since first stopping here this has become a regular stop. Just good food and good service. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good Ole southern food. Breakfast country fried steak, sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes all delicious. Some of the best fried chicken ever and onion rings hand dipped and made to order. Haven't had a bad thing yet. read more

For the last 10 years, I've stopped here for lunch every time I travel to Tennessee or North Carolina, and it's never disappointed! The staff is always courteous and the menu is quite expansive. I ordered the meatloaf during my most recent visit, and it was amazing. They have daily specials, breakfast options, and a large selection of sides. The portions are gigantic, and the quaint atmosphere is comforting. There's also an old-fashioned gift shop attached to the restaurant. This place is simply a great slice of southern Americana, and hospitality. read more

Haven't gone there in over a year. It sucks. They ignore you there and don't ask if you need anything. Food is overpriced for what it is. It used to be good 15 years ago. Not anymore. read more

Excellent down home restaurant with great variety of menu items. Tonight I had the Monte Cristo sandwich. Excellent cook, outstanding ingredients well presented. The wait staff is always friendly, and just the right amount of attentiveness. Prices are very good for a sit down meal. Always coming back to this place. read more

The best spot in Dillard! We tried a few restaurants while we were here and you will love the food at Cupboard Cafe. We went for breakfast and the food was amazing; large portions and the service was extraordinary. Thank you Lisa for treating us like regulars and making our dining experience one to remember. Along with amazing food and service the cafe is extremely cozy. They have a cute little store attached. Must go if you are in the area!!! read more

The best Coconut Cake!!! Absolutely amazing - moist cake and generous icing. Perfect!

Food was ok, service - grim death. Our dinner came out before we even started our salads. The to go box we asked for was picked up off the floor and handed to us. Not a pleasant experience. read more

I've eaten here for years and always enjoyed the food, atmosphere (great outside deck) and staff. The only reason it's getting 3 stars instead of 5 is because of a bad managerial experience on my last visit where my order was undercooked and took almost 20 minutes to be replaced. At this point I just got the food to go because I didn't have time to eat it there. The Server apologized but there was no effort from the Manager to show any type of empathy. Such a shame and I hope it's not signs of things to come for the Cupboard Café. With that being said in the past it's been a great experience. They have a wonderful eggs benedict and my daughter loves the popcorn shrimp they have on the kids menus (not bad for an adult sized portion of shrimp & side for only 5.99). read more

Excellent food. Great service. Like the little novelty shop and chocolate fudge. Wide variety of good food on menu!

The staff was not wearing masks. Some had no masks, some had them below their chin...Waiters and cooks and hostess. We have always liked it and were going to eat outside, but left when we saw that most were not wearing masks. Beware! They are clearly not following CDC guidelines as they proclaim on their site. Is a shame. read more

The hightlight of this place is the fresh salad bar which has a nice selection of fresh peppers, mushrooms, and is above average for the area. The lowlight? Everything else. I was dumb enough to try the Low Country Carbonara (when at a southern restaurant - dont order non southern dishes) the sauce was bland, the shrimp was good, the chicken was average and I've hit a first. I'm not sure if the sausage was sausage or a chopped up hot dog. Needless to say that was the worst $13 pasta dish I've ever had. Ever. My parties Pork roast looked like turkey but tasted like pork, but he said he would give it a 3/10. Another got the Lemon peppered chicken and i had a few bites and it was seasoned to death and not very tasty, even a little overcooked and tough. The coke was good If you're looking for a fresh salad bar and medicore at best food then this place is for you, but it makes me weep that people try this place thinking it's southern cooking in any form If you're also looking for an overpriced general store attached to the restaurant trying to look like a cracker barrel but ultimately falling short. You've found your place. read more

We were passing through and had been looking for a local place for breakfast. The cupboard looked fairly busy - usually a good sign. It turned out to be a great stop! My husband and I split a Western omelet and ordered a side of sausage. Yum! The food was excellent. The reason I gave only four stars was that the prices seemed high. $9.99 for an omelet is a little steep in my opinion. More one omelet, side of sausage and two coffees was $20. Adding a second omelet would have made that a $30 + breakfast. Service was good and very friendly. They also have a gift shop that would have ben fun to browse through if given time. Bathrooms were small but clean. I'd certainly recommend stopping! I bet dinner is great! read more

Usually really like this place but disappointed yesterday. Not that crowded but it took 35 minutes to get our food. I ordered pork roast and the meat I was served was a laugh. Three thin slices of pork which looked like it came from the deli. No one finished their extra crusty fried okra. Big disappointment. read more

Good little place. It's has a "Cracker Barrel-ish" feel when you walk in with all the knick-knacks and such. The waitress we had was super friendly! She told us about the Minnehaha Falls, so we made a little stop on our way back to Atlanta area, which was awesome, by the way. The biscuits were fantastic and the coffee was good, but I had the western omelet and it wasn't all that great. It was full of onions and peppers with a little bit of ham, but it was so greasy. The grease was literally pooling out from the omelet onto my plate. The saucer cakes were also a little greasy. It did have a crunch but then the grease oozed out of them like a damp sponge. I wish I had tried something like the French toast or something a little more signature. I would definitely go back to try something else. Their lunch menu did look good though. read more

Went yesterday had a live weevil on the plate. Won't be going back. They did not seem overly concerned.

Been going here for over twenty years, primarily for breakfast. We seek out Mary to be our server - she's the real deal. Friendly, down to earth, great, attentive service without being overbearing. Wide choices for any meal and all good. My husband gets their omelette and I like their corned beef hash. If you are a carnivore you'll love their breakfast meats - Bacon, country ham and house-made sausage. Hard to say which I like better. Coffee always robust but not bitter. Banana pudding to rock your world. As others have said - huge gift shop and also a nice fudge and candies bar to suit any sweet tooth. read more

This place was amazing. We went there for Mother's Day 2021, and even though this place was really busy, we were sat down within 30 minutes. The waitress was extremely friendly. The food was out quick and it was fresh. We've decided this will be one of our go-to restaurants whenever we have guests. Another amazing thing was, as we were paying for something in the gift shop after we ate, the lady at the counter asked us if there was anything that could have made it better. We told her that it was perfect, it literally couldn't have been better, and she seemed so genuinely happy that we were happy with our meal. It is because of places and experiences like this that make eating and shopping local so much better. read more

Went there the other night with friends who recommended it as a local hit. I ordered pork roast and my wife ordered roast turkey dinners. I was so looking forward to a late breakfast at the Cupboard Cafe today, but unfortunately had a horrible experience with the service and ending up getting cold food after such a long wait. We also never got one of the items we ordered at all. The food that I did finally get was so cold that I couldn't even eat it and sent it back. So disappointed that this is most likely the last time I try coming here and won't be recommending it to anyone going forward. read more

Over I'm probably closer to 3.5 on this spot, but it's a cute touristy place convenient when heading through Dillard. We grabbed appetizers, the potato skins, chicken tenders and mushrooms were all good, 'shrooms were my fave.
