Getting to know you.

Great place to take the dogs for some outdoor exercise. Enough room to run for the big ones with a smaller dog area to keep the little ones safe. Water fountain for pets and their owners, picnic table and benches plus a herding ball for fun. Trees around the park provide enough shade to make it comfortable even on a hot day.

I bring my puppy here a lot since he digs up the compost heaps in my backyard. This run would have gotten more stars last summer when the water fountains were working and the ground was covered in wood chips. Now that it's winter and the fountains are shut off to prevent freezing, a few of the gates are busted and most of the wood chips are gone. I still bring my dog here to frolic in the snow covered dirt and hang out with his dog buddies....however as the snow melts into the uncovered dirt, mud ponds are formed in the center of both the little and big run. It's bad when your dog likes wallowing in it. Mine does. (And this mud has dog pee and who knows what else in it.) For now I will only bring him if the ground is frozen over or use Little Bay Park.

Bryant Park in NYC is a great gathering space for enjoying the shaded outdoor area on a nice day…read more There are some delicious places to pick up a coffee or a fresh baked snack and read a book or a newspaper from the communal borrowing bins. Once you arrive, there is a perimeter sidewalk with multiple entrances. There are tables and chairs to sit at as well as benches and in the center, there is a big open grassy area where you can lay out a blanket and relax. Within the park, there are many table top type games that are also communal. There are some historic statues in the park as well as an abundance of signage to help you navigate this pretty large park. I enjoyed my visit and look forward to coming back as the people watching was excellent and everyone was friendly.

If there ever was a true New York hub, then this is it! A really lovely park right in the heart of…read moreeverything. Here are some facts I found out about it. Bryant Park in Manhattan has a rich, quirky history and many surprising secrets -- from its days as a poor person's cemetery to hosting over 12 million visitors a year. Between 1823 and 1840, the site was a potter's field -- a burial ground for the city's indigent. Bodies were later moved to Wards Island, and the land became the Croton Distributing Reservoir. The western lawn sits directly above underground stacks holding 3.2 million books and 50,000 reels of microfilm for the New York Public Library. In the 1920s, during subway construction, a replica of Federal Hall was built in the park to celebrate Washington's bicentennial In 1853, the New York Crystal Palace hosted a major world exhibition here. It burned down in 1858. Tesla spent time feeding pigeons in the park; one white bird allegedly inspired him. The park renamed 40th Street & 6th Avenue "Nikola Tesla Corner" in his honour. The Josephine Shaw Lowell Fountain - Visitors toss $3,000-$4,000 worth of coins yearly into this fountain, all going toward park maintenance. In winter, the park transforms into a Winter Village with an ice rink, shops, and restaurants -- built from scratch in just two weeks. Bryant Park is the most densely occupied urban park in the world, with daily visitors often exceeding 1,000 per acre. Guided tours reveal hidden mosaic installations and even a Buddha statue tucked away in the park.

Woah who knew there was a serene park above at the east end of 42nd Street next to a sky bridge?…read more For years on the west end 42nd St. I could see this sky bridge linking the two sides of the street that crosses 42nd St 50 feet above. And I always felt that was a perfect viewing spot for Manhattanhenge, and it was. But I didn't expect to find a small quiet park there too. There are stone steps on both sides of 42nd St and it is also adjacent to the steps at Ralph Bunche park at the other end that leads to the park once you climb up the steps. I think the park makes much more serene because of how it and the area, Tudor City is like separated from the rest of manhattan which is such a busy part of town where hundreds of thousands if not millions of people venture too. But yet you may find yourself enjoying the park by yourself or one or two other people. The park is mostly surrounded by a gate, but it's open to the public and you can find the entrance and just walk right in. There are plenty of trees and other greenery, and little stone walkways that lead to benches and chairs at various points of the park or walk to the bridge and check out 42nd St or goings-on at the East River.

This park is actually pretty nice for dog park goers. It's quite a surprise. I would not had…read moreknown about it unless I heard from someone on a meetup. It's pretty hidden since you have to go to the end of 51st street and then walk down some steps. There's plenty of poop bags (looks like plastic bags from the veggie section at your grocery store) and the surface is paved brick. It seems as if they just threw up a fence to split off the dog park from the rest of the park. While I liked the park, I didn't dig the vibe of the folks. Maybe it's because I'm not from the neighborhood, but it seemed as if everyone was just antisocial, and it seemed like all of the dogs were antisocial as well. It seemed like a park where the dogs and owners were more mature. I got dirty looks from the old folks who thought my 6 month old Jack Russell mix was aggressive and they left. Nipping, biting and barking is perfectly normal for dogs. People need to chill out. Dogs like to wrestle and hump. It's worth it to check out if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a destination out of it.
