Members of his crew were incredibly helpful programming the new inverter for us and making new cables. We returned to the cabin and set everything up and it's working perfectly. Shoutout to Vulcan Towing & Recovery - Anchorage, Alaska…read more On August 11, 2025 I set out to haul away a very old sailboat with a cracked hull and what I soon found out had a rotten trailer tire to the Anchorage Regional Landfill. The plan went sideways fast when one of the trailer tires blew out, the rim hit the road, and I had to limp into the Carr's Quality Center Aurora Village parking lot. A couple of towing companies told me flat-out, "No way, we're not set up to handle a boat." Then I called @Vulcan Towing & Recovery. Without hesitation, they said: "No problem, we'll be right there." Sure enough, they arrived quickly, and within 10 minutes had the boat safely loaded up and on its way to its final resting place. I'm grateful for their professionalism, quick response, great attitude, and willingness to go the extra mile--literally--to help me get the job done. The first time it was engine overheating problem and I figured the water pump or thermostat was the issue and was prepared to pay big bucks. They called a little while later and said a coolant hose clamp has come loose and leaked. They replaced the clamp and charged something nominal like $30. More recently I had my car into Kendall Toyota for a recall and they said in multipoint inspection that my brakes were at 3 to 5 mm remaining and needed replacement. I took the car to R&R for brake job and oil change. A little while later R&R called and said no need to do the brakes yet, that they have plenty of life left and just to keep an eye on it. Saved me almost $500. They could've had me so easily. I will keep going back to R&R.

Immediately my husband knew there was an issue with the rotors, so we took the car back. We asked for confirmation about our rotors and their status. They claimed they were fine. I should have pressed the issue, because now my rotors are damaged and I have to have they replaced and it's costing me a over a grand to my brakes and rotors redone after less than 10,000 miles later. We are VERY UNHAPPY with R&R. I can no longer recommend

When I arrived in Anchorage I did not know of a good reputable mechanic to turn to. Having been referred to several who either were not qualified to do the job, did not have the proper equipment to lift the motorhome, we're too busy or outright we're not interested! It was suggested that I give Dean a call which was an experience in and of itself! After explaining my situation he gave me several suggestions to try on my own and if they didn't work he said to give him a call. The suggestions, all of which were valid did not solve the noise issue. Dean explained that he was completely booked but understood my dilemma being from out of town that he made an appointment for me the following day. Dean's mechanic went with me on a test drive and he immediately heard the sound and returned to the shop and pulled the front wheel off and did one of the most thorough wheel inspections I had ever witnessed! He spent considerable time inspecting all of the components of the suspension and wheel assembly and determined that the rotor was ever so slightly warped and out of round which was causing the brake pad to move ever so slightly on every revolution of the rotor when it passed by the brake pad causing the noise. He suggested that turning the rotor would solve the issue but that it was so slightly out of round he would wait until the next time I replaced the brakes to have the rotor turned. He did not feel that this situation would be anything to be concerned about and to continue on my trip south back to the lower 48 states. I did not keep track of the hours but it was at least one hour and approaching two hours and for this Dean only charged me $160 which was extremely fair considering today's labor rates in the $200 per hour range. I would recommend Dean's automotive service in Anchorage Alaska unequivocably to anyone who needs quality honest work at a fair price! While my vehicle was being worked on I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Dean as he is a veteran of the auto repair industry which I would guess of at least 40 years if not more and a very interesting individual to talk with! Given that it is a CVT, I knew I was in for a world of hurt. At A&A, I was charged $400 for a transmission only diagnostic first and foremost. Then I was quoted $15k for a new transmission and vvt solenoid ($11k transmission, $4k solenoid). I wasn't even offered the option of a used, low mileage transmission, and after talking to multiple other mechanics that price for the solenoids is outlandish. New solenoids cost roughly $350, and they're not exceedingly complicated to install. If you do go here, which I would not recommend based on the price of the diagnostic alone, I would recommend asking for a second opinion. There aren't a ton of shops that will rebuild a Subaru transmission, but Proven Auto in Anchorage has been wonderful to work with.
