I was hoping to make a quick stop to place a carry out order, but it took longer than it should have. It wasn't busy and there were no cars in the drive thru but I went inside so I could make pit stop. There were several employees behind the counter but only one was taking orders. So I had to wait quite awhile to place my order, which was a just a grilled cheese value basket. It took longer than usual to get my food, and it wasn't until I was down the road that I realized the grilled cheese wasn't really grilled. The bread was not toasted or grilled and the cheese wasn't melted. How difficult is it to make a grilled cheese sandwich anyway. Cheese curds were tasty. They were hot and fresh. Called to notify Manager that the double butter burger with bacon that we ordered, was missing the bacon!!! When we called we were told we could have a concrete!!! We did not order a concrete, we ordered a doubled bacon butter burger. We spoke with a Manager and then a GM. Neither one had any managerial skills. Nobody even asked their staff if they omitted the bacon that was ordered and paid for!!! But they asked us to get into our car and drive all the way back for something we never ordered. It never crossed their mind that they could credit us back for the price of the bacon the next time we were back at their location. Bacon is only .80 cents!!! I will NOT return to this location again. They have no common sense!!! They should not be managers. They don't even have Supervisor skills. I've been going to this Culver's since they opened and the service has gone downhill majorly the last few years. I ordered ahead for curdside pickup. Get there, check in on the app, and waited. And waited. And waited. I finally had to end up calling inside and being like ummmmm hi checked in 15 mins ago, the food was supposed to be ready then? Update: It's been three years since my last visit here on the way from Indianapolis to Wisconsin, and this place is STILL YUCKY. Even the chairs are sticky. On top of that, it is so hard to access from the highway - this is not a place to make a pit stop. Totally not worth it. Other complaints: Food took forever to be brought out (my grilled cheese was room temp by the time it got to our table), the soda to syrup ratio is off, and when they brought our custard to our table (finally) it was a melted pile. I have been craving some Culver's for a minute; so I decided to stop in and grab me some Lunch. I would just like to say that it's Very Refreshing to see very manorable, Pleasant and respectful young adults here and that has Always been my experience at Culver's restaurants. I had the walleye fish sandwich basket and it was Delicious, hot and very fresh. The service was quick and easy. I know that their food is prepared once ordered and I never mind the wait because I am Sure to get the food hot and delicious. The restaurant is a good size; it's always clean with a good ambiance. Now I love Culver's, but this one is awful. First of all, I ask the cashier what the difference is between a shake and a malt, which he told me there was no difference even though I know there is one. Second, I asked for a plain single butter burger with cheddar cheese, instead he gave me a single butter burger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Outstanding service and delicious food. My wife and I swung by spontaneously on a Sunday night. We shared a Butter burger and fries, and then enjoyed a tasty Culver's mixer for our desserts. The burger was out-of-this-world, and our mixers hit the spot. All customers seemed content and satisfied, as the service was impeccable. I had a good experience going to my first-ever Culver's in March, so this seemed like a good spot to stop for a late lunch while driving from Chicago to Indy. Got the kiddie meal, which was a complete meal with Butterburger with cheese, small fries, choice of drink, and a scoop of frozen custard, yay! I really thought the Butterburger was the same size as a regular one, but the nutrition facts list the kiddie one with fewer calories, so it must be a bit smaller. You really can't tell though. Awesome taste, a good value, and nice ambiance inside. The crinkle cut fries were really good with an awesome potato taste. I also tried a bite of Wisconsin cheese curd with Mariana dipping sauce, and that was delicious. While my first visit resulted in a less than noteworthy experience of a bland burger and shake not quite up to that of Steak & Shake, todays second visit gave me data worth mentioning. The "Pot Roast Sandwich" had a unique flavor, tasting more like pulled pork than beef. I struggled to taste any semblance of beef. Or of pot roast. The onion rings were admirably manufactured, and if you've ever tried making them at home it's a marvel they keep the breading on so uniformly. Unfortunately, I would have liked more flavor. This location is terrible. The staff acts like the diners are an inconvenience. They certainly don't know their job. We made a request for an extra piece of chicken, something that has been done without problem at many other locations. Too many businesses today have to hire worthless employees. Culver's is no different. The staff is rather meh... used my card to pay for 4 pints of Chocolate and the cashier never provided me my receipt. Never offered. While watching the person fill my pints, I watched as they left them filled with approximately a half inch below the top, when the correct procedure for Culver's is to fill the pint to the top, even a little higher than the top so that it is against the top of the inside of the lid. This is not the first time. The last 3 times I have purchased their pints of Chocolate I have not been given the Veteran's discount even though I have stated that I am a Veteran, or the pint has been shorted, or both. When I asked to have the 4 pints double bagged, There was a rather rude remark made that I could not hear clearly, so I simply said don't bother. Really? It is offensive to ask for double bagging so that the heavy product doesn't rip the bad? If you are THAT easily offended, then quit your job and stay home! The pints of Chocolate frozen custard are the only reason I go to Culver's, so I will not be returning to the Merrillville, Indiana store again. I guess I have to go to Clown Point to the Culver's on Summit and Broadway, which is a bit out of my way. Sorry, but I expect the staff to do their job. I went through the drive-through to order one scoop of chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces and Heath. The person taking my order, told me to repeat myself multiple times before just telling me to go to the next window. She had a slightly rude tone in that moment, but I thought nothing of it. When I got to the window, she asked me what I ordered and for the fifth time, I repeated my order. after paying, I pulled forward and eventually received my ice cream. It wasn't till I got back onto the main road that I realized that my ice cream was completely wrong. It was just one scoop of plain chocolate. I turned around and went back just so I could add the toppings. I chose to go inside, so they would be able to hear me better. When I got up to the register. The person who was at the register was the crew chief ( based on her nametag). I told her that I had asked for brownie pieces, and Heath, and she initially told me that I would have to put them in myself. I went to hand it back to her, and it was at that moment that she offered to remake it. The girl who took my order, was standing there, and having an attitude the whole time I was talking to the manager. She was cracking jokes, and making fun of me along with the other employee nearby. Chain Crap with a capital C! On a street with nothing but chain restaurant after chain restaurant, Route 30 in Merrillville offers very little out of the ordinary. On my first and last visit to Culver's the two of us spent just over $26 to eat mediocre, standard and unexceptional fare of limited proportions off of black plastic plates. How classy is that? July 20th,2022 My daughter and I stopped in for lunch. We waited for our food for approximately 45 minutes. When the food arrived I was very disappointed to see that my Burger was completely burned. I ordered the basket but they only brought the burned Burger. When I asked about my fries the girl that delivered the food said she would be right back with them. I saw the same girl delivering to different tables. After approximately 10 minutes I went to the counter and had to stand in A-line of people that were returning their food. By the time I got back to my table with my fries my Burger was then cold. Also the temperature inside the restaurant felt like it was subzero. A traveling softball team was also dining at the same time. Most of them went to their vehicles to retrieve blankets and jackets. One of the children came back in and a snuggy. An elderly couple which was also dining the wife went outside to eat her lunch. They never lowered the temperature of the restaurant. It was the most miserable experience I've ever had inside of Culver's restaurant. I will never return to Merrillville Culver's. It was horrific!! read more
