    Curder Burger
    Travis B.

Curder Burger: Culver's originated in Sauk City, WI back in 1984. When I was a doughy kid in the 90's it had expanded slightly to nearby Wisconsin Dells, where I have fond memories of eating at while on vacation. Today, Culver's can be found in 26 states serving up their famous Butterburgers and custard. For you non-Cheeseheads, a cheese curd is a moist, squeaky, rubbery piece of curdled milk. That might not sound the most appetizing but trust me they're good. In my home state of WI, many people prefer their cheese curds deep fried, which brings us to the Curder Burger. The Curder Burger features a smash burger patty, crunchy pickles & raw onions, mayo, shredded lettuce, tomato, and a massive deep fried cheese curd patty all on a slightly toasted bun. Opening the container, my initial reactions were anger and disappointment as I thought I was mistakenly given a fried chicken sandwich. It turned out that it was just the massive curd and from a top-down perspective it eclipsed all the other toppings, including the beef patty. There's a line from Star Wars, something about Darth Vader being more machine than man. Well, this burger is more curd than beef. It was so enormous that at first, I had a hard time fitting the burger into my mouth. The cheese curd was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly oozy. Not that there was anything wrong with any of the other ingredients, but the curd was the star of the show. My only complaint is that Culver's has only released it for a limited run the past four years (every October for some reason). Just make it a permanent menu item already! Is this a local restaurant trying to emulate the larger chains or is it a restaurant that is simply very successful at doing what it does well? The menu choices are quite varied and will satisfy most palates, assuming you are looking for a quick burger-style meal. A big plus here is that you don't have to stand and wait for your meal, someone will deliver it to your table. My hamburger was served on a fresh sesame seed bun. It contained a healthy slice of onion with tomato and lettuce. The meat was well cooked and was a generous size for the price. The cod sandwich was filled with one solid piece of fish so this meal was great value for money. If you've never eaten at Culver's, you must try it, you might love it.

Typical of Culvers throughout the state. Food was good. Kids enjoyed the custard. Service was fine.

Agree with everything James S. said. Great burgers, great concrete mixers, great fast food.

I did not like it. When I got my hamburger I was so happy when I saw it but when I tasted it I did not like it.

It was so GOOD! Loaded with meat and fresh toppings and lovely toasted ciabatta bread made this sandwich excellent. Lots of table seating. Patio for warmer days. Easy path on/off freeway. Service was excellent. There was one person handling the orders, bussing, etc and he was great. So welcoming for our first visit while we decided what we wanted. Great stop.

When you enter, you walk straight ahead to the counter to order. It has a large dining area with plenty of natural light from the large windows. The design is upbeat and fun. When we arrived, around 1pm, there were only a few small groups. We got to order right away, a couple of salads and iced tea. They give you a number placard, which you take to the table, and then they deliver the food. The server was pleasant and helpful. It was cold and windy outside, and unfortunately it wasn't much warmer inside. We went to find a table somewhere warm and not made colder by the doors that led directly outside, since there is no vestibule. No luck, the place was just cold. Good thing I had my knit hat. After a short while, we got our two salads. I got the Empire Pecan Salad, and my partner got the Southwest Chicken Salad. They looked great. Plenty of mixed ingredients, good portions, and everything was fresh. Much of the time when you get a good salad, it's only the top layer and everything below is lettuce. These salads were full of tasty stuff all the way to the bottom. Might be one of the best salads I have had in this class of restaurants. So our visit was mixed. The food was very good, but it was so cold inside that it made things uncomfortable. Even though we were away from the front door, there is a side door that people kept exiting from, and the cold air just blew right through the place. We would come back, just not during the cold months.
