Once we found Culpepper Flooring and spoke with Matt about our "Hardwood Floor" project we knew we found the right person and company. This project was in a mountain home 6 hrs away from us and finding the right company to do the job was critical because all communication was via texts, emails or phone calls! Matt took great care in removing all furniture from the work areas and prepping the area with plastic wrap, to limit the dust, etc. The final results showed great pride in their work and the outstanding reputation that this company has had for a very long time. This could have easily been a 5-star review but unfortunately that is not the case... I hired Matt to install around 1500 SQFT of LVP, which took about 4 days. On the last day I was pleasantly pleased with the final progress. However, here is the issue: In the office, storage closet, and bedroom there was ripped up carpet (which was done during the initial prep) because it transitioned to the LVP. He informed me that he would have someone come "tuck the carpet", because that was something that he doesn't do. He also asked if I can pay him, and I obliged simply because the flooring was completed for the most part. I also assumed he took great pride in his work and wouldn't leave the existing carpet out of place (I was wrong). Prior to leaving he informed me that someone would be coming to my house the next day to tuck the carpet. He went as far as to calling me 10 minutes after he left to schedule a time of 12:30pm. Unfortunately, no one showed and when I contacted him to get an ETA, he never responded. This was well over a month ago and he still hasn't gotten back to me. So now I'm left with paying someone else to complete a task that Matt was supposed to do. This is highly unacceptable and unprofessional. What if the shoe was on the other foot and I didn't pay him what he was owed? It would be a huge issue. Some of these contractors want you to respect their business but won't give you the same respect in return. read more

I've had about a month to sit on the job Matt and his crew did, in order to leave what I feel is a fair review. I can't say I'm entirely pleased with the way things went and the job I was left with, enough to say I probably should have spent a little bit more and went with a company that had a slightly higher estimate. (Matt was the lowest estimate I received and that was my determining factor.) Issues that came up, each what I am deducting a star for: 1. Scheduling and timing of the job. Scheduled a date and time a couple weeks in advance, the day before I was informed the materials weren't ready and we would have to move the start date a few days later. The job also took twice the amount of time (in days) I was told it would be finished. 2. Fit and finish of the job. The floors look nice and were as advertised. There are some spots where corners were cut or just forgotten. There were some spots where the baseboards weren't finished and there was no caulking at all. Picture included. I had half carpet, half linoleum downstairs before the installation and there are noticeable dips/bends where the carpet began and ended from the previous floors that I can feel when walking. I was told it wouldn't be noticeable and that they could sand it down and level it if necessary, but I mean, what I'm going to have then rip out the floors and do it again? 3. Damage to the house. This is the primary motivator of this review. While installed the floors, there were plenty of scuffs, dings, cracks, and general damage to my drywall that seem excessive. One of my doorstops is missing in the kitchen, no explanation given. My toilet seat cover was completely shattered broken in the downstairs bathroom, and while replaced, it took two weeks to get a replacement and it was replaced with a cheaper quality cover that was a plastic composite instead of the original porcelain. The walls are cracked in certain spots from the pressure of hammering in the base boards. Pictures included. 4. Cleanup. I had to clean cigarette butts and floor particles from when they were sawing boards from my garage and driveway. My car was also covered in sawdust and would have appreciated a heads up to move the car out of my driveway if it was going to be a mess. 5. Accountability. While I caught some other issues early, like damage to the walls and scheduling issues, it's very apparent to me that, unless pointed out when I did, would not have been taken care of. I'm big on relying on someone to do what's right when hired for a job, and when I don't feel I can trust you to hold yourself accountable for damage you've done without having to be asked, even if it's small, I'm going to be put off. read more

Culpepper flooring was great. I contacted them regarding finishing up my LVP flooring that I had already started but I needed it completed within 3 days. They responded immediately and were able to move some things around and fit me in. They had to leave and come back a couple times as they already had other appointments set up but were able to fit me in wherever they had time and got the floors done right in time. We are beyond pleased with our new floors. Matt went on quite a journey with me. First, how picky I was about the floor I wanted. Matt went thru hoops to try to make it happen. Then, since these floors were going into a brand new home, the closing date kept getting pushed to a later date. Matt was so kind about this. Because we were under pressure to get out of our sold house, Matt had to work simultaneously with the painter I had hired, who wound up leaving quite a mess on my new floors. Matt, again, came to the rescue and helped so much to clean this mess up. (I was very upset about the paint all over the floor.).
