My daughter has a nut allergy and the accommodated us by making sure our ice cream was from the unopened case. My husband had 2 scoops of ice and I had shake. This store offers ice cream and candy. The walls are covered in different types of candy which was fun to look at. The staff were done nice high school age folk who were helpful in deciding which flavors to get - there were plenty of options! The portions were generous and the ice cream was super creamy. I really like Cullens - 4 stars. I've been to the Coon Rapids location but this was my first stop at the Champlin location. It's a great place. They have lots of ice cream (of course) including a freezer full of packaged ice cream to-go. But Cullens has a lot more than ice cream...they have hundreds of varieties of candy, they have a big cooler full of craft style sodas, and they have popcorn! Just what my sweet tooth was looking for! They offer a variety of yummy flavors. I tried two which were both delicious and full of fillings (cookie dough, brownies, caramel, etc.), but I had to go with a classic - chocolate peanut butter swirl. It was the perfect sweet and salty with plenty of PB. The size of the scoops are so big, I exclaimed, "What?! Is that just one scoop?!" She offered a kid scoop, I gladly accepted and was still amazed at the size. Lol Such a fantastic, perfectly made, icy cold treat on one of the first summery days we've had here in Minneapolis. Best local ice cream shop I have been to! The portion sizes are HUGE and come at a great price. So many different and fun flavors to choose from. & the service was great! I tried a few samples before making my final decision. Better than cold stone, but did have a similar layout. Plenty of parking too, but also a quick walk if you're in the neighborhood. I live 10 minutes from Champlin and have missed Cullens for 16 months letting this small town gem go unnoticed. It has the feel of a 1950's candy/ ice cream shop and has colorful but limited seating. You are treated to two once cream counters with home made ice cream, unique flavors and a lot of homemade specialties. We tried the ice cream, my kids wore a lot of it as evidenced by the photos and we even picked up some classic candy on the way out. This place has never let me down! So many ice cream flavors along with unique candies and sodas. What always sticks out to me though is how cautious they are with allergies. I have a severe peanut allergy and they do have a sign up front that says they cannot guarantee anything to be allergen free, so love the honesty, but when I tell them about my allergy, they take out a whole new container just to guarantee the smallest risk of cross contamination! Cullens is a ADORABLE little shop that has a HUGE selection of ice creams, old fashion candy/beverages and great customer service. Staff keeps the place clean and in great shape. They are great at helping you navigate all their flavors and helping you decide. (They helped me pick out a flavor I'd happily go back for over and over again). They also help you get in and out in a timely matter. (We all know we've waited in lines for tooo long waiting for some delicious ice cream at a DQ atleast once growing up...) They don't have a huge seating area in the shop but there is a large parking lot with grass out there to sit on. Some additional benches might be nice but not required. The staff is generous with their scoops, and they have a huge selection of candy and I'm not sure if there is anything better then a candy shop that doubles as a ice cream shop! I definitely plan to return for a delicious homemade waffle cone with their ice cream again! read more

This is the perfect place to go on a hot day if you're looking for some sweet relief. I stopped in with my mom and brother after seeing their sign on the sidewalk driving by and thinking, "Oh man, ice cream would be perfect right now!" AND IT WAS. As soon as we entered, the two staff members greeted us cheerily. Service was super friendly and it's clear that employees enjoy what they do. There are dozens of ice cream varieties that are out of the ordinary, fun combos of fruit and chocolate and crunchy candies. I don't want mint chip if I'm going out for ice cream, I want something extravagant, and Cullens has plenty! That said, it's hard to pick a flavor! But the employees were super helpful. Tell them one flavor you like (like say dark chocolate) and they will gush about all their favorite ice creams that feature dark chocolate. I ended up picking a Mackinac fudge flavor that was so so decadent, and my mom got a tasty dark chocolate and, I believe, raspberry flavor that she loved. There's some seating inside and it wasn't too busy but I imagine if it gets crowded there would be people standing around with ice cream. That said, it's a great outing and great ice cream and I'd recommend it to everyone! read more

I am SO EXCITED about this place!! Honestly, 3 days before I found this place, a coworker and I were discussing our love for Cedar Crest ice cream, and how we didn't know of any local shops scooping it up, only grocery stores selling containers. It was fate! I didn't spend much time perusing the candy or sodas, but it seemed like there was quite a bit. Didn't evaluate seating or decor- took my cone to go, and honestly am not going to knock a new place back for paint jobs. What counts is 1) they had great , friendly service, 2) had excellent ice cream and 3) the portions were ridiculous! I've had Cedar Crest via grocery store and hand-scooped from ice cream shoppes, and my personal favorite is the Coconut Explosion! Which I highly recommend. Tonight I decided to go with All American Cherry, a feature flavor of the summer. I glanced at the menu board, and thanks to the drawings on the white board, I knew a "single" was more like a "double". In fact, the "single" scoop was so large that I made it all the way home to Coon Rapids and still wasn't down to my cone yet. GO HERE! I know I'm excited for my next trip, soon! read more

Went to the new shop in Coon rapids, wayyyyy to expensive for a very sub par malt and ice cream cone. The malt had a good amount of malt in it but the cookie dough was hardly represented. There were also ice chunks in my malt. Go to Culver's for a much better and cheaper malt then what you would get here. Very disappointed. read more

I love the selection of old school sodas they have in the back along with the candy.
