The walls are vibrant and full of art. There are separate dining areas and each table has a unique artistic touch. The art on the wall makes it perfect for selfies or photo ops. My fiancé and I drove up from Texas for a long weekend visit with his sister. We rented a small house around the corner from Cucuru. After a long, long drive and eating "road trip food" we were ready for something good. We pulled up Yelp and took a look at what Colorado Springs had to offer. The patio drew me in with its landscaping and atmosphere. The server was friendly and very helpful. We kept our food order simple. He got the Cuban sandwich and I got the Tapas Sampler. Both were fabulous, but the Cuban sandwich had to really be the best we have ever had. Now I love margaritas. Not just any margarita. I am very picky and want only true margaritas. None of this margarita mix nonsense and I have even been to great Mexican restaurants that can't make a decent margarita. I ordered the original margarita and my fiancé had the jalapeño margarita. Both were incredibly tasty. The jalapeño margarita was very different from any we ever had. The spice was there. The flavor of the jalapeño was there. The great thing? The heat didn't overpower or linger too much. I used to always try mojitos when I went places. After I first discovered how yummy they were I ordered them every where we went. It didn't take long before I realized... those drinks are hard to master! I have never had a good mojito after the first I tried. We discovered a wonderful hidden gem of a place on the cruise ship we were on once but other than that... I have not been fortunate enough to have met up with someone who could dazzle me with their mojito magic. My fiancé suggested I try theirs, since mojitos are Cuban. I asked how the mojitos were and informed of my snobbery towards them. She winked and whisked away to show me her magic. When it came out it looked promising. One star - for multiple reasons Two of us sat down there and were repeatedly told everything we order would be the best thing ever (imagine one of trumps speeches when he uses the words great and best 40 times in 5 minutes) We ordered 2 sangrias (5$) and a sample platter(25$ - after getting the platter, I would have paid 15 for it but it was tasty) We also ordered a gin and tonic and a margarita, (both 6$). This is when it went down hill. Up to this point, the owner was serving us. The last two drinks were served by a young guy, friendly. When we got our check we noticed there were two extra drinks plus the ran all our drinks as 7$ drinks. When we told the young waiter about this he said sorry, I just added what my boss told me to. We were eating on the patio out back but I was looking inside as the young waiter went inside and then I saw the owner slammed his fists on the table and started yelling in there and starred at us when the kid told him we noticed the multiple additional drinks and up charges on the bill and we wanted a refund (I screwed up and just gave them my debit card before looking at the bill) the young waiter was clearly shook up when he came back to our table with our refund. It is my belief this was intentional on the owners side. The main reason this is a 1 star is because an owner should never loose it on a clearly waiter when the error in the first place was not theirs. A simple refund of the error without the attitude would have prevented this poor review al together. And second - just because you think there are two yuppies from Denver does not mean we don't know how to review a bill - don't screw your customers. This is a place that evolves with every customer that walks in the door and with owners who genuinely enjoy what they do and want to you enjoy your time with them. We came for lunch at 1:00pm on a Thursday. It wasn't overcrowded which allowed us to choose from several rooms of the house, each with 2 to 3 tables. We had a wonderful view of Bancroft Park, the centerpiece of Old Colorado City, right across the street. The menu was simple with a choice of small plates, sandwiches and salads. We ordered the Gambas Aquate, a Pesto Panini and the Cuban sandwich. The Gambas Aquate is a deliciously fresh plate of avocado, Madrid salad and 4 big shrimp. High quality simple ingredients with great presentation, yielding great taste. The sandwiches were both excellent. The first thing I noticed was that they don't use grocery store deli cuts. Nope, this was the genuine article. Guillermo, the owner, talked me into dessert. Baked flan with a tequila sauce which took me longer to photograph than to devour. Left very satisfied. Can't wait to come back and relax on the patio. Overall, a great experience and just the kind of place I expect to visit in Old Colorado City. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, because we loved this place! Cucuru was the first place we went after checking into our hotel in Manitou because we found a pretty nice Groupon. It's an old house with some cool things done to the exterior, and the inside is cozy and has different styles of art on the walls (most for sale) We were greeted by the owner in a very friendly and genuine way who told us about the place and gave us some recommendations. He was our server as well and we had a good time with him all evening. They have quite a few good beers, many local brews, and their menu is simple but perfect. We started with some classic chips and salsa, the salsa was fresh and had a nice kick. I ordered the Pesto Panini, my friend ordered The Cuban and we traded each other half of each. The Pesto Panini was nice and fresh, and The Cuban had great, slow-cooked pork with a nice overall flavor. We had some beers and a good bottle of red wine that was priced right, and tried the Ghirardelli chocolate-covered strawberries to finish it off. Had an awesome time. Made a reservation, but we ended up arriving very early. We were checking out the menu outside and the owner and an employee encouraged us to come in. We were wary with hardly anyone inside, but did not know we were in for a treat! I'm still surprised by some of the negative reviews, so I wanted to write this one to share our good experience. Exceptional service from Kylee. She answered all of our questions and ran back and forth bringing us different tapas to try as we rambled off our orders. The tapas sampler was wonderful. Also loved the salmon tapas. My first Cuban and it did not disappoint. We sampled items from every part of the menu: soup. tapas, sandwich and dessert. Tons of flavor in all of the dishes and everything was super fresh. Not one item we didn't like. The sangria was also very tasty. Good selection of drinks and many of them local. They were out of a few, but that's normal for seasonal beers. Since the band hadn't started yet, we had a great time talking, joking with the waitress, and speaking with the owner about the art and his favorite items on the menu. Very eclectic, but comfortable atmosphere. More people arrived as the band started. We stayed and had a few drinks and listened to jazz. A very enjoyable evening. Thank you all for your hospitality. Why Cucuru?? We were passing through CS last fall and happened to stop here. We were so impressed with the food, service and atmosphere, we couldn't wait to come back!! We ordered the Cuban sandwiches again. Absolutely delicious!! Best I have ever eaten. The meat was so tender and tasty! The slaw and melon were perfect compliments to the sandwich! Cannot recommend this restaurant. Kitchen service was unbelievably slow waited more than half an hour for Chips and Guac. Then waited an additional 40 minutes for mediocre Cubans. The pork on the Cuban was dry and not well seasoned. The side of Cole slaw was about a tablespoon. Overcharged on the check for the Chips and Guac and was charged a surcharge for using a debit card. If I could give zero stars, I would. We left before our server could even finish telling us about their signature cocktails. This is how it began.... As we entered, we were told to choose any table and a server would greet us shortly. One person in our party was disabled. So, we picked the closest available table. As we began to sit, the owner approached and stated that the elderly gentleman in our group, that is disabled, should get up from his seat and choose another seat. When we stated that it would be difficult to do that, and that he was fine in that seat, the owner argued with us. We were forced to to express to the owner that moving the elderly gentleman in our group was not an option. The owner came back three times to try and move us, after we were told that it was open seating and to choose ANY table. The last infuriating instance came when the owner picked up my friend's purse from the chair at our four person table, put it on the ground, and stated that he wasn't going to have US waste a chair. The restaurant was at 50% capacity. The "band" wasn't due to set up for another hour. The "band" wasn't set to perform for another two hours. We were not in the way of any set up. We chose the closest available table due to the disability of a person in our group. The owner created such a scene that it caused all of the patrons at the establishment to turn and stare at the member of our group that has a disability. I worked in the restaurant industry through my years in university. I have never witnessed such disdain for a disabled person. I have never visited an establishment that was so incredibly cruel to a disabled person. I have an incredible amount of understanding for people that work in the service industry, having worked in that industry myself. I have patience for servers, and the kitchen, "getting in the weeds". There is a distinct difference between becoming overwhelmed and outright cruelty. This owner alone, and NOT the staff, exhibited an indefensible level of cruelty for someone that was trying to enjoy a night at a new restaurant. He embarrassed not only a member of our group, but the entire group as well. I will never go back to this place. I hope that anyone that believes that every person deserves to be treated as a person never visits this location as well. I am utterly appalled by his behavior. As a business owner, I would fire any employee, on the spot, if they treated ANY of our guests this way. I am further outraged that they treated a person with a physical disability this way. I am upset with the demand to move, as though it was simple for my companion to move. I am upset with the outright declaration of the owner's ableism privilege, that he assumed it was so incredibly easy to "just change seats," for a person that is not able to "just change seats". Cucuru is deplorable. The owner is a bully to his guests. I have never in my 40 years experienced this level of bias and discrimination in a restaurant establishment. He should be ashamed. read more

Grabbed a couple of drinks and food at this place while in the area. This is a small restaurant with a really cool patio. While we were there a band was playing on the patio so that was nice. We ordered the hummus which was very good. My SO ordered the Cuban sandwich which was also good but the meat was a little dry. The service started out very attentive but after we had been there for awhile we were kind of forgotten about. It took awhile to get refills on our drinks and our tab at the end. The artsy decor was a plus, the garden beautiful, the service and food fabulous. The owner even came out and told a few jokes. As for the reviewer below, complaining there was no rice, that a "Mexican" restaurant should have rice, I have no sympathies. The finest Cuban sandwiches, the most elegant tapas, the best art, the Italian sodas for the kids, and a salad of mixed greens and berries, the best Brazilian soup...if you couldn't find something nice to say about this family operation, go to Taco Bell. The service is friendly but seems a little inexperienced they she had no idea what she was doing. The food came to the tables inconsistently. For example I ordered right after another table the same thing I got my meal about 10 minutes BEFORE they got their meal. It was a little odd. Plus I noticed that they got chips with their sandwich and that was not offered to me. It's the the little things that matter I guess.... As for the cuban sandwich I have had far better. Instead of rambling on and on about how sad our impression of this restaurant was, I'll do a simple pros and cons list. Pros: My pesto panini was good. Cons: Waited at the counter to be seated while the cook stared at us from the kitchen Only one table was set up outside and was covered in dirt. The waitress said she would clean it but waited until we were seated to do so. A child was running around outside repeating "mom" over and over the majority of the time we were there, completely unsupervised. I would say she was 4 or 5 years old. We were brought water but never asked if we wanted anythwing else to drink. The water tasted literally like dirt so neither of us drank it. Upon the third visit from the waitress, I requested tea. My boyfriend ordered coke. Our food, the panini and a green chili burger, took a very long time to arrive even though there was only one other table with customers in the entire restaurant. My tea was awful. Just plain iced tea but tasted really bad. The waitress said she would turn music on for us, never did. We never received refills, my boyfriend went back in to ask for refills. They were out of coke and his only other option was sprite. Someone was yelling the cook loudly about his innability to cook my boyfriends burger. So loud, in fact, I could here the entire conversation while sitting outside. While my boyfriend was inside getting our drinks refilled, the child ran her hands through the ice machine ice which the waitress then put directly into our drinks, without hesitation, while my boyfriend was watching. For our $9 sandwichs we received about 5-7 Costco bulk tortilla chips as a side. Conclusion: never going back. Ever. Poor excuse of a restaurant. read more

We were okay with the wait so we seated ourselves on the patio. There were three other tables seated and being serviced. We wait for 10 minutes with any attention so I got up and got us our water and menus. The blonde gal with short hair and the 'busser' continued to walk past us. After another 10 minutes the blonde waitress stops and tells us 'I told you it would be 45 minutes before I got to you!' At this time there were two tables: 1 had two adults and a child. The other had 5 adults with 5 or 6 kids. As a previous server there was no reason for her to not have time to get to a two top within a reasonable time. We left the shithole establishment with incompetent staffing and went to Bon Ton's and had a very nice lunch. Oh, and the staff was friendly, not dripping of sweat and were more than happy to serve us. A lot of great ideas that unfortunately, just fell a little flat. First off, great location in Old Colorado City. Right next to 'that place Guy Fieri ate some BBQ on national tv'. But seriously cool patio and outdoor chill spot. Menu was concise and clearly a tapas joint. Nice. We started with the gambas aquate and shrimp diablo. Sounded delicious; gambas - think a dry, vegetarian ceviche served in a half avocado. Fresh and healthy, but completely devoid of seasoning (and flavor, for that matter). Diablo sounded so much better than presented. Long story short - four pieces of bruschetta with a dab of salsa and some boiled, salt-less shrimp. For about $12. I eat here once a week or so. I LOVE the Cuban sandwich and the apple pie. The owner is usually onsite or at least in and out. You can tell he really cares that customers have a positive experience.
