With Christmas shopping completed two weeks before the holiday and no intent to purchase anything else, we walked into Velez Galleries "just to look". Browsing the vast collection of turquoise and other stones and pieces of jewelry we asked about White Buffalo. Michael showed us a raw mined chuck of White Buffalo of which he explained how he could craft into a pendant to fit on my wife's Navajo necklace. Velez Galleries went above and beyond to create a truly special pendant. Michael's exceptional service and professionalism made the entire experience unforgettable, entertaining and educational. We were particularly impressed with how Michael took the time to explain where White Buffalo was mined and how he could transform a raw stone into a beautifully crafted pendant. This one-of-a-kind piece is something my wife will treasure forever. Needless to say, Christmas shopping was extended for one more day and we walked out of Velez Galleries with a new pendant and earrings. Give them a call or stop by, not only do they create the most amazing jewelry on site but they do repair work as well as buy selected items from the public. read more

Extensive selection of indigenous jewelry/wall art/pottery and more from the Americas; from South America to Alaska. All work is authentic. I went in to see if I could find out if my silver pin (from the 1980s) was indeed Hopi. It was. My bracelet with Hopi design was not. (They told me it was likely Navajo). I learned that the stamp on the back of each authentic Hopi piece was the artist's "signature". Besides jewelry, I really liked the Inuit soapstone carvings, the southwest pots; San Ildefonso, Acoma etc. In addition, the store is on very fun street for shopping; 2505 Colorado Ave, Old Colorado City, Colorado Springs, CO read more

I purchased this stunning Colorado Malachite at a really reasonable price. Thank you so much for an incredible experience! read more

This is a must see when visiting Old Colorado Springs! My husband and I stayed in this area in vacation and happened upon this store while in town. It is owned by local Native Americans and is filled with the most beautiful variety of Native American Art. You can spend a lot of time in this store and not see everything. My husband and I went back twice! Some of the most beautiful and intricate art and jewelry I have seen which is all hand made by true Native Americans. The owner Mike was so knowledgeable and has great stories about all the art/jewelry and where it came from and the history. It was an honor to talk with him. He has owned the business for 35 years and uses his store to support other Native American artist. A true must see! Go support these amazing humans! read more

I need to give full marks to Velez Galleries. First of all, their stock is correct. Hopi Silver is in the Hopi Section. Navajo silver is in the Navajo section. Mexican/Aztec influence is n the Mexican/Aztec section. Everything is labeled and correct. It is important to me to buy a piece that is not only beautiful, but not from a foreign country or a copy-cat artist. On top of that, the prices are reasonable and they were willing to ship my item, a lovely Queztlcoatl Aztec pot, so I did not have to risk damage on my flight home. Top marks! Thank you very much for all the help! read more

This is an amazing. Gorgeous metalwork. I stopped in just to look around (everything's a bit out of my price range) but the owner was happy to show me around and answer my many questions, telling me about the history of some of the more vintage pieces. They've got newer handmade pieces and some ancient ones. I learned so much about turquoise and the process of making it into jewelry - and Michael gave me a piece of Chinese Turquoise. Don't miss this amazing shop! While on a trip through the springs my mom and I wondered into Valez Galleries and found this wonderful store full of beautiful art and jewelry. Mike is extremely passionate about his store and we loved learning about the jewelry, the art, his travels, and cultures surrounding these items. Mike is also a skilled jewelry craftsman and his work is some of the best I've seen on my travels.
