To be honest, finding good food at the hotel was hard, so we checked Yelp and found this place. The vibe is awesome - it's got that perfect mix of mountain charm and a sporty feel. Plus, everyone who worked there was super nice and fun. The food? Everything we got was great. I had the salmon with garlic herb butter, broccolini, and roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and it was so good. The District is a great local spot in Cripple Creek that's not in a casino but walking distance to all of them! We were in search of a burger/sandwich & this hit the spot. Bryan was a great bartender, so sweet & attentive! The jalapeno bacon cheese burger was delicious & the shoestring fries were so crispy. Joey got the "brisket bites of deliciousness" but wow the brisket was so overcooked & maybe a day or 2 old bc it was soooo dry... so not delicious, as the name poorly misled. We sat at the bar and got good service from Brian. We started with the jalapeño pepper jack stuffed pretzel. It was good but I felt the pretzel to cheese ratio was off (could have used more cheese). Hubs ordered wings for his entree and I ordered the shrimp grain bowl. Hubs had his wings and had finished them before my entree ever showed up. Hubs said wings were decent. Eventually we settled on a ribeye, brisket bites, chicken fried chicken, and a salmon salad. Service was quick. The nacho appetizer was good-definitely loaded with tomato. The rest was adequate, with good pieces to build on, but the word we all used was bland. Fir instance, the chicken fried chicken was covered in a very watery, and flavorless white gravy that didn't add anything to the dish beyond making the crispy chicken breading a soggy mess. After reading some of the reviews on Yelp stating how "expensive" The District Kitchen & Saloon in Cripple Creek was, I was a bit apprehensive about dining here. But, boy-oh-boy, am I glad I didn't listen to those reviews!! I think those who said the food here was expensive need to invest in a dictionary because they obviously don't understand the meaning of expensive!! After visiting the Ice Castles, my family and I decided to eat at The District Kitchen & Saloon after a local verified that The District offers a gluten free selection and wholeheartedly recommended we eat here. Assuming that the portion sizes would be comparable to Denver restaurants (which is usually fairly small), we ordered according. Boy, were we wrong! The portion sizes are fabulous...so much so that we have enough for dinner for tonight and possibly lunch for tomorrow! For appetizers we ordered the guacamole & chips, the avocado tower, the queso brisket, the nachos, and the fried mushrooms. (Yes, that's a lot of food, but two of us are gluten free, and we thought the portion sizes would be small, so we planned on sharing appetizers.) The entrees we ordered were two 12iz ribeye steaks, one stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp, and one chicken fried steak. Each entry came with fresh veggies (green beans or baby broccoli) and garlic smashed potatoes. The appetizers were SO big that we were all practically full before the entrees came. We wound up taking the fried mushrooms, nachos, a side of Mac & Cheese, and the majority of both ribeyes with their sides. Our server, Ki, was amazing! Beyond be g super warm and friendly, she made sure that my food and my son's food was gluten free and was very attentive to not only my table, but all of her tables. Anytime Ki was unsure if something was gluten free, she would check with the chef and then come and let us know. This place was poppin when we drove into town at 8 pm. Was suggested from the casino hotel staff. The service was amazing. Such sweet people working. The bathrooms were very clean and nice. We ordered the fish and chips and the jalapeño pepper jack pretzel and the fish and chips. The pretzel was so good we didn't have time to take the picture before we ate it. The cheese sauce tasted a bit like a mustard cheese sauce and me not being a fan of mustard definitely didn't mind it seeing that it was over powering. Happened upon The District, asked a couple dining outside if it was any good, after getting positive reply we ventured in. Has a bar and grill vibe, lots of different beer on tap.
