We ordered 2 beef empanadas, the Ropa Vieja plate, and a side of meduro and congri. Everything was freshly made and delicious. The empanadas are so tasty they could be a meal on their own. This was our 2nd time coming here and both times everything was sooo delicious! Hubby and I got the same thing both visits and it was great each time. We started with an Empanada, which had a crispy pastry and the picadillo filling inside was so tasty. For our entrees, Hubby got the Grilled Chicken Plate, which comes with a salad and congri (black beans and rice). His chicken was so tender and the congri is perfectly cooked. I got the Grilled Pork Plate, which is served with grilled onions, a salad and congri. The pork is tender and grilled so nicely. We also got a side of Plantains Maduro (sweet plantains), which are delightfully caramelized. We like to add them to our rice, it's fun to get the pop of sweetness in a bite...yummy!!!! I really love Cuban food and am so happy they've opened up near us. This is definitely a go-to. It's a small place with just 4 tables, but each time we went, there were people coming in to pick up orders. It's very welcoming and the owner, Angel, is incredibly friendly and helpful. I'm so happy this place opened up close to us. The owners and employees are so friendly. They took a good amount of time explaining their menu to me. I'm very grateful for that. Cuban food is somewhat new to me. The food is fresh and hot. Even as i took it to go, the food was still hot when i got home. I was able to order a bit of everything. There are no guest bathrooms, they ask you to go to Subway. Food was so so at best and rather bland with no sauces on the side. I've had better. They do not add plantains to your meal. read more

Note... They have moved to downtown Glendale at the corner of 57th ave and Glendale. Nice outdoor patio / bar area. 1st thing you will notice how clean and immaculate the restaurant is. Sat up at the bar area and was greeted by a nice server as well as the bartender. Had an excellent cup of cafe con leche. Waiter recommend the puerco asado (pork) which was full of flavor - served with rice and beans as well. Nice size portion of all. Also ordered a side of maduro frito and the bowl that it was served in was topped off. Excellent service and the food was really good. Will be back soon to try the rest. read more

Very disappointed in our visit - we were looking forward to supporting a local cuban place, only to be rushed in and unattended to during our nearly hour waiting for our food. I understand it was busy, but we couldn't even get waters from staff after asking, we had to go to the bar to get it ourselves. other tables around us, who arrived after us, were getting their appetizers and entrees while we were still waiting. The waitress rolled her eyes at us when we asked for the check. Looking at the owner's responses to poor reviews.. This unprofessionalism seems to be a trend. Angel, his wife and team and pushing out some of (if not) the best cuban cuisine in the city! The ropa Vieja has so much flavor and is one of the best guisados I've had. The black beans and rice were also top notch as u can taste the herbal notes of the bay leaf and sazon shine thru. The cubano sandwich was also just as good and even gave a big hot cheese pull! (Make sure and ask for extra cheese+extra toasted! ) Not to forget to mention they are some of the sweetest people I have met in the food game. Originally from Los Angeles, but came to Cubanita's for a last hurrah with some co-workers on our last day of training here in Phoenix and according to the Cuban in our group, the food was authentic and we all agreed that it was absolutely delicious. I had the Cubano sandwich and it was excellent. For the first time ever I had a Cuban coffee, something I was always afraid of because it's straight expresso. I ordered a Cafe BomBom, which had a bit of condensed milk and to my surprise, it was delicious and surprisingly sweet. The service by the owner, Angel, and his team were very welcoming and friendly. Angel added a personal touch by greeting us all and had conversations with us at the table. The ambiance was very homelike and cozy as well. In the time we were enjoying our dinner we forgot about work and that we were all away from home. We tried various restaurants every night for the week we were here, but Angel gave us by far, the best and most personable experience of all of them. I have worked in customer service for years, and I also have 10+ years of restaurant experience, so I am not usually quick to give a place a low rating....unless it is a terrible experience. Two of my girlfriends and I went to grab lunch here on a Saturday afternoon in early December 2024. I'm usually a lot more understanding of new businesses and don't want to knock them down. However. This was not a good experience at all. The restaurant was super busy, they appeared to only have one server actually working the entire restaurant, and the bartender just kind of stood around not helping. (Is he not capable of greeting tables/getting drinks at least?) The singular server tried her best, but the place was so busy. We only got our initial drinks, because we ordered directly thru the bartender (which we had to get up and go to the bar to get). Not one individual ever came to us to greet us or say it would be a few moments, etc. no acknowledgement whatsoever. That is where u lost me. It only takes a moment to acknowledge people. I am not ignorant or unrealistic, especially having worked in the industry myself. I could obviously see they were very busy, but we sat there for THIRTY MINUTES without one word from anyone. That is just kinda unacceptable. Let's be honest. Hence, why I write this review. I unfortunately did not even get to sample or taste any food, as we never received service. The bartender (he even made eye contact with us several times, saw we were becoming a bit agitated , and not once offered to take our food order). If u are going to open a restaurant, make sure u hire the right people to run it. Again, at least acknowledge your patrons within 30 minutes (preferably sooner). It is a shame, because my friends and I had heard good things about the food, but because of the lack of service, we won't be back. read more

I contacted several other restaurants to see if they would be willing to make one as a special order. Cubanita's is the ONLY restaurant that would agree to help me out.
