On top of that, I purchased a ginger beer that was advertised at $2.50 but was charged $4.00. It's not just about the amount--it's about transparency. Customers should be charged exactly what they are told and what is displayed. The food itself was not good. The oxtail was mushy and tasted like it had been sitting for a long time, not fresh at all. Cleanliness was also concerning. The sanitizer bottle at the counter was visibly dirty, which made me question the overall hygiene of the establishment. On top of that, the customer service was not pleasant. The person behind the counter had an unfriendly attitude, which made the experience even worse. This is a total hole in the wall, definitely a great place for takeout though they do have some tables too! I got the curry Chana (chickpeas and potato) and it came with rice and fried plantains. The curry resembles Jamaican and Guyanese style of curry. The stew is like a watery Jamaican stew. Emphasis on watery with no flavor. I ordered the curry goat, stew chicken, curry chicken plate, and 2 buss up shut roti. The chicken wasn't cooked and flavorless. The stew is detailed above. The goat was above average in taste and firmness. The roti was INEDIBLE. do not order it. STAY CLEAR. RUN. I tried to eat it (yes I tried fresh. Whoa. So good. A friend of mine from Trinidad said this is the only place to get true Trini food. He swears by it! They have vegan options so he made sure to make me aware of those items. The chef even said if we give her time she would make more vegan dishes! You order at the counter and the owner/ chef makes it up for you! I will say, while I'm not very knowing of Caribbean cuisine I'm reviewing this off the basis of prior experiences. I ordered the curry goat with a beef patty and my friend had ordered the stewed oxtail with 3 bourbon wings and three jerk wings. We were thrilled when we first saw the dish because it smelled and looked seasoned. Although I like the succulent goat flesh, I felt it was bland and tasted like star anise. The rice wasn't mushy, but it was overcooked. The potato and plantain were, in my opinion, the most appetizing components of the platter. Let's not even talk about the beef patty. In my opinion, the pastry was more flavorful than the meat itself, and it made me think of the beef patties you get at Dollar Tree. Regarding the wings, the bourbon tasted delicious but was a little too sugary, leaving behind traces of orange chicken. The bourbon flavor I anticipated was not as apparent as I would have liked. Much like an irresponsible father. As for the Jerk sauce it tasted salty with a loud allspice flavor. The chicken tasted pre cooked and gummy. Would I recommend this place? Ok, this place is AMAZING!! It's not in the greatest area and doesn't look like much from the outside but the food, oh geez it's beyond delicious. They have imported drinks available in their drink cooler and plenty of food options. I wanted to go with a relatively safe item and got the curry chicken. We also got a Jamaican Kola as well. The wait wasn't more than 10 minutes. The meal was served with rice and peas (beans), cabbage and fried plantains. Everything was so flavorful and tender. I've been dreaming about it since the night we had it and I'm going to need to go again ASAP. They also have beef, chicken or veggie patties which I want to try along with the jerk chicken. Over the years I've tried a variety of the dishes. Everything is always fresh, delicious and plentiful. Today we had the Ackee & Saltfish (national dish) and oxtail. My gosh....Just the rice and peas was so much more flavorful and delicious than from all the other Caribbean restaurants that I have been to. The Ackee & Saltfish was WAY better than the last one I had someplace else. It would impossible to do a better oxtail. Was in the mood for home cooked curry goat and roti and came across this place on google. Although it was 30min away, it was worth the drive. There's Jamaican food but this place got me with the Trinidad style curry and Roti, just like home. It's a small place with cool reggae vibe playing in the background. The portions are huge so don't worry. When you enter I was greeted by the sweetest lady who reminds me of that aunty who makes sure your food is good, tastes good and if you need anything else.
