Shopping in the Kalihi area... This was truly an adventure. I give credit to Donna O. for suggesting that I look for face masks here... haha! Thanks, Donna! Located on the School Street (where it's a one-way direction near Liliha Street), C U Market is a small, cluttered, neighborhood convenience store. It has a variety of goods such as caps, pipes, refrigerated beverages, canned goods, etc. I was mainly looking for face masks, so I asked the cashier. I don't know if she couldn't hear me through the plexiglass, so I repeated myself, pointed at some face masks on display, and made hand gestures. She produced a box of masks after I didn't want the puple mask with floral Hawaiian print. I had mentioned "purple" Lakers face mask and also said, "Basketball team". She had a blank look on her face. So - when she brought out the second box of face masks, we went through it and I found two Lakers masks! I asked her if I could have both for $20 (the price tag on each ziplock bag was $10.99). She calculated both masks with tax and wouldn't lower the price. Shucks! I walked around the shop to think it over and took a few photos. In the meantime, customers came in to purchase alcoholic beverages. Hmmm... it was before noon - just saying... lol! I was glad that I didn't bring my mom or my friends feom the mainland here... haha! I decided to get the face mask even though I had seen one at Ohana Hale Marketplace for $8. It was this past Sunday - Kobe Bryant's birthday - and the salesperson said, "Last one..." Ack! My fault... I should have gotten it. Well... I had driven all the way here, found a covered free parking space in front of the store (because the barber shop next door was closed due to the new StayAtHome Order), and Ohana Hale Marketplace will be closed for at least the next two weeks... sigh... So, yes... after much deliberation, I got one of the masks. Then I backed my car out into School Street, around a silver car parked illegally, and blocking the way... his passenger came out of the shop with a six-pack of beer... Note: they also have lanyard type of gadgets (for $1.99 + tax) to clip onto your face mask so you can dangle the face mask around your neck while eating, etc.

Small space, foods taste normal , Bentos need more selections and it is not cheap for small portion in a convenience store.

It definitely shows...it's a large store with a small footprint on the bottom floor, and most inventory on the top floor accessible via escalators. It was well stocked, and plenty of employees (can't remember the last time at a CVS I was asked if I needed help). I ended up buying a bag of chips to bring back for our cabin steward (hope he likes it), using the self checkout lane.

Customer service here lacks in the Pharmacy dept. I came in to have some refills for pen insulin needles and I was informed by my mail order pharmacy that I can refill items while on vacation based on my coverage. The pharmacy tech first stated that she could not get a hold of the pharmacy that the number I gave here was wrong etc - I then told her I just spoke to someone with the same number and I can place them on speaker phone if I call again. She then stated she will call again. This time she didn't give me an excuse and she did speak to someone and that they could not refill my pen needles because the rep stated I have no records of such refills on my account. I then told her hmmmm thats interesting because the agent I spoke to said that I was refilled of such few months ago and they have a record of that. So she spoke to an agent again and this time they cant do a refill because they don't have it until this and that and the one at King St can refill it. I was over it then. I felt she kept giving me the run around. The pharmacy here sucks based on what I have experienced.

I ordered the wagyu smash cheeseburger with waffle fries, my husband got the fried noodles with teriyaki chicken and my daughter got the breakfast burrito with country potatoes. Good portion sizes and food was delicious. The noodles were Sun noodles, so they were fresh, light and tasty. Teriyaki sauce was a nice glaze over the chicken and noodles. My burger was great and seasoned really well. My daughter enjoyed the breakfast burrito and said it was warm and filling. I even went back a couple days later and ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and salad. The prime rib was huge and seasoned well. I always love a good prime rib and this one did not disappoint. Wish they would make a creamy horseradish, but the regular horseradish and au jus was fine. Thanks for the great meals!
