There are moments where you will walk down or up ramps, stairs or float in the air in the vr experience which was interesting. I'll start off by mentioning that we do have the Oculus at home, so me and my kids have used the headset and controls before. My kids are 6yo and 8yo and are under the recommended age of 10yr, but both fared well at this arena. The headset was a bit big, but Shawn (owner of this Burlington location) recommended that they bring a toque to help make it fit better. You do have to book a time slot for your experience and I hear that their weekends can fill up pretty quickly. We got to the complex at our scheduled time (it is housed within this plaza that offers swimming, dancing, coding classes) and after leaving our things in the locker, we were brought in a LED-lit room to begin our orientation. You do have to pay attention as the video also gives you instructions on the games that you'll be playing. Our first game was Engineerium. This game does not require use of the Controller. All you need to do is follow the path. The stepping stones are constantly moving and some parts make it look as if you're walking upside down! The headset is for you to communicate with your teammates and for the staff to guide you if you get stuck. I really enjoyed this quick 15m game. Our next 30m game was Singularity. You do need the Controller for this game and it is quick a big piece of equipment that you need to keep tight to your body the entire time. I found it tiring to be constantly eliminating robots and drones, but then again, I'm not a gamer. It was a fun experience for the entire family and my 6yo is already asking when we can go back. Shawn, the owner, was very helpful and answered questions that I had before going in via Instagram. The staff were friendly and helpful and the arena was very clean (no shoes allowed). The employees were very helpful and the equipment (HTC Vive) was sufficient. The experience could've been much better for a company event if it displayed our actual names instead of randomized names, and if some people had a bit more time to get used to VR. There were the standard difficulties with glasses, people not understanding controls, and people having trouble seeing clearly...all of which might have been cleared up with a bit extra time at the start. Put some controls in your hands (making sure you strap on the wrist loops) and off you go. Where you go is only limited by your imagination oh and maybe how long you have booked the booth for and what games there are and... It actually is pretty cool. We had a lot of fun. Couldn't figure out the group play thing to shoot zombies together until the end but it is pretty awesome even in single player mode. You do feel like you are somewhere else. And it does make the time go very fast. Real time that is. Is it perfect yet? Nope. Would I go back? Sure. Maybe won't touch but would not mind trying. I do think there are some improvements to be made. So in reality 3.5 stars. But the staff (adults) are cool. So the extra half star is awarded for their service in the line of duty. Very slick, clean and organized place, great selection of games and the staff are wonderfully helpful. If you need help getting used to the equipment, they're there. If you just want to log in and do your thing, they give you space but will pop in on mic once in a while to make sure you're comfortable. I really think it's a great place to give VR a try if you've never played it before! One thing I wanted to stress is cleanliness. When you walk in, the smell reminded me of a hospital - which to me was great because that assures me that they keep the equipment clean and sanitized and I had no qualms about using it - I was completely at ease. Note - before entering the space you'll need to take off your shoes so you will be shoeless throughout the entire facility (including the communal washroom - which was an interesting experience lol but not the end of the world) The staff were really friendly and great at getting us all set up and explaining how the games work. They have a large selection of games to choose from. I definitely recommend going for at least an hour or more, especially if it's your first time, because we found that getting used to the mechanics and learning the games takes some time.
