Before I give what I feel to be an honest review of the process, I must explain why I gave this place 1 star: THEY DO NOT CHANGE THEIR GLOVES while handling biohazard materials, when picking stuff off the floor, or when going from patient to patient. I never saw 1 employee in the 4 hours I was there change their gloves. I am aware of the OHSA regulation that allows volunteer blood donation sites to not require glove use at all, but since they do, if you don't change your gloves you could expose people to Hep A, B, C, HIV/AIDs, and all kinds of other bloodborne pathogens with this "practice". Even when their gloves were visibly soiled with blood or iodine, still no glove change. My technician pushed down the discarded plasmapheresis machine supplies deeper into the biohazard bag (which contains blood from all of the day's donors), not change her gloves, and then go straight over to me to wrap my puncture site. The population of folks that visit plasma centers tend to be IV drug users and other higher risk of bloodborne pathogen clients. So sloppy glove practices puts everyone at danger. You might get money donating plasma, but no amount of money is worth a lifetime of suffering and complications with Hep C and HIV/AIDs. I also didn't see the employees wipe down the plasma draw chairs between clients, or any cleaning of any sort during my 4 hours there, including small droplets of another person's blood on the floor. So if you're willing to perhaps contract an incurable disease for a few bucks, then CSL would be ok, but otherwise, I'm worried about the general cleanliness practices of a facility that allows the kind of behaviors that I saw today to happen. At bare minimum we should all wonder: they're sloppy about glove changes, what else are they sloppy about? So moving on, I've never donated plasma at CSL before, and if you also aren't familiar with their process, this might be useful to you: you'll need to have on your person when you visit: A) your driver's license with your current address on it B) your actual social security card or a W2 C) a current piece of mail verifying your address. No exceptions. Your name and address also must match on all 3 of these documents too or you're denied. Be prepared for this initial visit to take 3-5 hours. Some of the reason for the huge length of time is a lack of a new client process, as well as under-staffing & poor communication. Next, you read over a plasma donation binder w/ info about (some) of the process, you get a handout about your first 5 payments (which are worth more than all your payments afterwards), and then you watch a video that repeats much of what you just read. Then you're taken to have your finger pricked to check your hemoglobin levels, your protein, to check for venipuncture sites for IV drug use, and they check your vitals. They also take your picture and register your finger print to your CSL account. You're then given a quick medical exam where they check your thyroid, liver, spleen, and your reflexes. Your medication history is also documented. You're then taken to the donation area. Once on the donation floor you can still be rejected. In my case, I almost couldn't donate because they require veins to be a certain size to withstand the 17 gauge needle they use. They do not use smaller. So if you have been told by doctors that you have small, shallow, or "thread-like" veins like I have, there's a very, very good chance you cannot donate. The donation process can take 30-45 min depending on how much fluid you drink before donating etc, and you have to sit still while the machine cycles from collecting your plasma to returning your red blood cells with a saline and anti-coagulant mix, which is cold. So bring a sweater and a book/iPad. **Note: They don't teach you how to use your CSL debit card & there's a lot of fees, so be careful and read the fee structure. Pro tip: Fred Meyers currently allows 1 free Cash Back at the CS desk. So to avoid the fees & get cash go there. No one explains the iGive rewards program either, which you need your CSL account number to activate (so ask for it before you leave). read more

I wasn't sure what to expect going into CSL, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was a first time donor so it took longer to get me into the system. You're greeted by friendly staff the second you walk in (and good music) and they explain the process thoroughly. It's a lot to get through on your first visit, but I'm told it's quicker for future visits. Staff is knowledgeable, kind, and even funny (I dealt with Justin, Avery, and Sean). While hooked up to the machines staff is constantly checking on donors. My donation went quickly and without issue. Probably because I have good veins and I hydrated well before going in. My experience at CSL was mostly good. I have only been once so this is based on my one experience. My only complaint is that it took approximately 4 hours for my first visit. This was my first time donating plasma. The staff at CSL were experienced, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. The process took a while for the first time registering with CSL, but the actual donation time was not too bad. I got a little nauseous and their techs were right there helping me out. The process of donating plasma is painless and fairly quick. The advertisement of how much a donor will make is somewhat mis-leading. Yes, you can make $825 in one month, but after that the payments are considerably lower and because of the time it takes I am not sure I will continue donating after this month. The center is clean and the staff are professional, but they are NOT customer service oriented. I was frustrated that when I called with a question I got incorrect information and never got the call back that was promised. I ended up wasting my time going to the center and not being able to donate on that date. read more

This place is so disorganized without a supervisor working. They have no order in which they do things. There is no such thing as first come first serve. They have people on the donor floor that cannot draw blood. If you have 4 hours to kill, then you won't mind. But for the little money, youd be better of with a part time job read more

For a plasma center, this is as good as it gets. Clean, no lines, good employees, fast in and out compared to other plasma centers. All plasma centers need to increase their donation rates and the pay for their employees, which is utterly pitiful. I really don't appreciate some of the phlebotomists attitudes. They come across as smug and apathetic. There's no sense of customer service whatsoever. I assume because we're getting paid to donate but come on, you're there to serve people. Maria is the worst of all of them. She embodies the apathy and disdain I can only assume trickles down from management. Unfortunately as long as we get paid for donating they have no incentive to be better. Due to the COVID-19 circumstances this location has drastically cut their hours of operation to only 6 hours/day. Because of this I have been arriving 1.5-2 hours before they open to get in line and wait. This morning was no different. I have been donating regularly for 2 years. Today, for some reason when I needed to be rechecked for my heart rate they decided to make me wait so a new hire could be trained. Well, that made my heart raise so I was no longer eligible to donate today. They have a high turnover rate and this has never happened to me before. When I worked retail and we had a new hire we always asked the customer if they had extra time so we could train someone. If they even acted in the least bit in a hurry, we didn't even bother to ask, but let an experienced employee give them great customer service. This was a HUGE disappointment for me today. As a result, I wasted an entire 3 hours. Karla is the one who told others not to help me. So sad for her to not look out for her donors. read more

I used to be okay with this place but after many screw ups by them I have to point some issues out so that people don't run into similar problems. I was donating regularly and then one day I had an issue. They told me that the return filter was clogged and kept blaming my diet. While I will be the first to admit I didn't eat all that well the day before, the machine messed up in the end and ended up dumping my red cells into the plasma bottle. When it is about to do this it is supposed to alarm and it never did, even after it did that. So the floor person went and got the manager and they deferred me for 8 weeks due to the machine messing up and dumping the red cells. While I was sitting there waiting since they wouldn't let me leave for 15 minutes afterwards they proceeded to take the machine off the floor for repair and said it wasn't the first time this has happened to someone. So after being deferred for 8 weeks, I went back the other day and had no issues. Today, the girl who stuck me stuck the needle way too far in and had to pull it back 3 (yes that is correct) times for it to be in the correct position. Because she screwed up in sticking me, i now have a good sized bruise there which will prevent me from donating again until it clears up. I don't bruise easily and have really awesome veins so there was NO reason that this should have happened, other than their worker error. I would advise to be careful if you decide to go here. They aren't the most careful bunch and many of the back floor donation area staff are extremely unprofessional and talk about other clients while you are sitting there and discuss inappropriate for the workplace topics. Management is not much better there as they never take anything a client says seriously. If you want to donate I would suggest another company in the area. read more

There really should be an option for zero stars. Their bp and pulse measuring machines are broke as twice it failed to measure me saying I was moving when I wasn't; had two people watching me. Then they measured me again and found my pulse to be 195 and bp to be 150 over 130. The lady tried to tell me that I was "...just a little over the acceptable donation range..." I tried to explain to her that I should be almost dead with those stats but she didn't understand. Then she got one of her coworkers to come yell at me and tell me I couldn't return for a week. Apparently they hire anyone. Don't trust these people. They're morons and dangerous. On my second donation the guy couldn't find a vein, so he went so someone else to do it and they got it on their first try without even paying attention. DON'T GO HERE!!! read more
