Easy, no appointment necessary, for lab work, part of the Providence network…read more After a doctor appointment on the first floor, the doctor requested lab work. I assumed I needed to head up the street to St. Vincent's Medical Center or the East Pavilion, but the doctor said, just go up to the 2nd floor and give them this paperwork. I said, 2nd floor of the Medical Center? No, just take the elevator up one floor. Note, building is in the process of getting painted so there were no signs (4/8/24.) After walking up and down a long hallway with no success, I stopped in a pediatric office and the receptionist told me the lab was in the hallway directly in front of the elevator. Walk across from the elevator, hallway goe off to right, about half way down on the right is LabCorp. The hallways are very sterile with small signage. Once inside, you do a self check in at the kiosk. The machine couldn't read my insurance card, no idea why, so I had to manually type in all the info. This happened to several other people so it definitely warrants being fixed. After that, I took a seat and waited my turn. Some people had set up an appointment so they were in front of me. There is a screen with people's initials so you can see where you are in the queue. My wait was about ten minutes. A little soft background music in the waiting area would enhance the environment. The technician was friendly, efficient, and most important, skilled. Hit the vein first time even though I was a bit dehydrated, and a minute later, done. I have an order for a repeat test for early June, and now that I know this lab exists, I'll stop here. There is a parking lot right out front, easy exit off 26, very convenient.

Not a trustworthy place. Would not recommend. Its unfortunate to see American Healthcare continue…read moreto decline at such a rapid pace

The wait time? Absolutely legendary. I arrived when the sun was up. I left when I had developed a deeper understanding of patience than any meditation retreat could ever teach. I'm pretty sure I watched the entire lifecycle of a houseplant while sitting there. Understaffed doesn't even begin to describe it. It felt like three employees were trying to run an operation built for thirty. Phones ringing, lines backing up, people waiting everywhere, and the few staff members present looked like they were moving in slow motion. Not rushed. Not hustling. Just... gliding through time at a pace that suggested they had nowhere to be for the next decade. Every step took forever. Check-in? Forever. Screening? Forever. Actually getting seated? A saga. I've seen sloths show more urgency crossing a road. The frustrating part isn't even the wait, it's that you can clearly see the bottleneck happening in real time. People stacked up. Staff casually strolling between stations. No sense of urgency. No communication about delays. Just vibes and fluorescent lighting. If you have absolutely nothing else to do for the next several hours and you enjoy watching efficiency take a personal day, this might be your spot. If there were an Olympic event for "Turning 45 Minutes Into an Existential Crisis," this place would take gold, silver, and bronze. The atmosphere? Imagine a DMV that lost its will to live, mixed with fluorescent lighting bright enough to interrogate a superhero. The chairs have the personality of unsalted rice cakes. The energy in the room felt like everyone collectively realized they forgot to move their laundry to the dryer. Customer service? Let's just say I've had more warmth from an automated "Your call is important to us" message. I wasn't greeted , I was processed. I half expected someone to stamp "Fragile: Handle With Mild Indifference" on my forehead. The worst part isn't even the wait -- it's that they know they're bad and do absolutely nothing about it. Every complaint gets the same copy-paste "Sorry you had a bad experience, we're committed to improving" response... and then nothing changes. Same long waits. Same understaffed shifts. Same slow process. At some point it stops being a mistake and starts being the standard. And the paperwork. Oh, the paperwork. I'm fairly certain I signed something that gave them naming rights to my firstborn. By page 47, I was just autographing out of muscle memory. By the end of it all, I walked out feeling like I had just completed a side quest in a video game I didn't agree to start. Would I return? Only if stranded in a desert and the only way home required donating plasma to power a spaceship. One star. And that star is for the parking lot, which at least had clear lines.

The gal who helped me had her hair in her mouth and told me that the bigger needles hurt less. I worked in the medical field and when she said that to me, I just thought, "Did you really just say that? You're joking. This is a joke." It was so painful I cried out. If the techs at Kaiser can take your blood and you almost don't feel it, why can't the Red Cross Folks, who do this all day, day in and day out, be trained as well? It should not have hurt like that. There was no option to opt out of "donating" your blood to scientific testing. NO OPTION. Either "help save lives and you must donate to scientific testing, including third parties who we sell your blood to (this was in the paperwork that you have to read before you do it), or do not help save lives." When I told the gal that when my step dad died, he required a lot of blood and that's why I was doing this, she said, "I'm sorry... Did he make it?" And, finally, the "snacks" were mini oreos and unhealthy foods. Not even an orange to replace electrolytes and fluids. I mean, we give you our blood and you give us... the inability to opt out of having third parties scientifically test our blood and some mini oreo cookies, cheese its, greasy/stale peanuts, and small Mrs. Fields cookies. If I needed to replenish my blood and health, why would I eat an Oreo? To poison myself? At the end, the gal said "You saved three lives today." And I looked at her, the gal who I'd just told that my step dad died, and thought... Well, I personally witnessed someone require a lot of blood and die in front of me. So... no. You have no idea. I will never donate through you again.

With the need for donors, I would think they would have waited to check because they could have gotten a donation from me. But once you do, expect to start receiving the constant texts and calls from unknown numbers lol. After all these years, Red Cross still has not updated their systems. I think experienced donors know how I feel. But onto the subject of this place: ~ Its a fairly big facility with an open quad area. Blood donations in the front. Blood platelets and plasma in the back, in an enclosed glass section. ~ What's also great about this place is the staff. I've always ran into the elderly ladies at check-in that are smiling and helpful. The technicians I've ran into have ranged from normal yet talkative, to near-zombie-like and anti- social. ~ The preparation area and equipment used for platelet/plasma donation is quite clean. I've seen technicians wipe things down, and bring in new sealed kits. Its definitely different when donating platelets. Overall, this location does an excellent job in getting donors set up and checked-in properly. The bed, or gurney, used are clean as is the equipment. I'll likely return six months from now for another donation. But I bet I'll receive over 20-30 calls/text from RC before then.
