I searched online and three places came up. Crystal Nails was the second on the list. I checked the reviews and after reading three of them, decided I would try to get Joy an appointment with Kim, about whom every review I read was glowing. The reviewers talked about Kim's professionalism, great personality and how she fulfilled their every request. I called about a minute after opening time and Kim answered the phone. I explained exactly what Joy wanted and significance of the occasion. Kim told me that unfortunately, she had plans with family on the day I requested, but assured me that Niko could take care of Joy because, as Kim put it: "Niko is better at nail art than I am." On the day of the appointment Joy called me as she was leaving the salon and told me how happy she was with her nails: "She did them exactly as I wanted! I love them!" What makes this extraordinary is that Joy explained that Niko speaks only Spanish and Joy speaks only English. She said the only other person in the salon did not speak English, either. Well, Kim was obviously called and actually came in on her planned day off to do Joy's nails. That's what I call going above and beyond! So for starters, I'm a long time fan of Crystals. I'm talking, I've been going there for about 10 years. The first time I ever got my nails done as a little girl was with Tina. I now live in San Diego so I only visit Tina and Andy when I'm in town. They both do fabulous nails and Tina is the Queen of Perfect Eyebrows. Today I went in for a full set white tip acrylics with a gel top coat. The usual for me there... Usually Andy does them and I love them every time, I'm not picky. Tina will occasionally do them but she's always in high demand and I hardly call ahead. Today, an older gentlemen in the back right corner booth did them. I'm always skeptical when someone else does my nails and today I had reason to be. I am a nail biter but even when I've bit my nails down to nothing, they've never came out looking like this. The guy put the tip so far down on my nail bed that I had no nail left. Not to mention there was acrylic all over the skin around my nail that I had to peel off. He also filed them AFTER putting the gel top coat on because he was moving so quickly during the whole process that the shape wasn't consistent. He didn't even give the gel enough time to cure on one hand so my left hand is dull looking compared to the right. I am in a wedding in a few days so you can imagine my distress. I didn't even have the heart to pull Tina aside to show her because she was busy. I've never NOT wanted to tip, let alone pay before but today I considered walking out. Of course I didn't, I would never do that to Tina and Andy considering they've been my favorite forever. I'm just slightly disappointed, I won't be allowing anyone else there to touch my finger nails every again. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Terrible service. The man doing my feet was so rough and he would not let me see my toes until they were done. I didn't like them and asked him to redo them and he made a scene yelling at me telling me I'm picking when he would not let me see my toes so I could at least tell him what I like what what I don't. A friend told me about this today.... So today when I got home from work, my wife tells me that my daughter and her went to Crystal Nails, the one that's on 4th street next to McDonalds here in El Centro, to get their nails done. She tells me that around noon a lady walked in and asked if there was someone available for a manicure. One of the employees said "yes" there is someone available. The lady walked out and helps bring in a girl with cerebral palsy inside. Then one of the owners (Tina) came out and told the girl with palsy that she would not do her nails because in her own words her hand was too "twisted". The lady with the girl tells Tina that she could straighten her hand, but Tina still refused. My wife tells me that suddenly the nail shop went quiet and felt very uncomfortable. She tells me that a few people that were waiting walked out. My wife said something to the employee that was doing her nails, but the girl with palsy had already walked out. This nail salon displays the IV Press Readers award that states they are the "best nail salon" in the Valley. No one should be discriminated this way. Isn't this illegal? I tried a different nail place today. Crystals nails in El Centro. I got a man for my pedicure. Very rough, not relaxing at all. Then I wait at least 1/2 hour for a full set. I got another man. My nails look pretty but he was also rough. He burnt my nails with the electric file. Filing them so much that it cause heat that lasted forever under the acrylic. Annnnnd I got several cuts under the nail where he sliced the sides of my fingers. Oooh they hurt so bad! I won't be squeezing any lemons. read more

Don't expect much from here. Service was very rushed and impersonal. Didn't wait long to start. Got a pedicure, manicure, eyebrow wax, and leg waxing. Had just moved so figured I'd treat myself in a new area. The woman who worked on the pedicure/manicure was very nice, but could tell had just started working in the profession. Did not experience any cuts like so many reviewers. The issue was I had asked for a nail design on my large toe and each of my fingernails. The nail "artist" seemed annoyed at my request that each nail be designed, I only wanted some stars and a moon, not like I'm asking for a Vincent Van Gogh replica. She couldn't draw the moon, which I told her was fine, just do the stars. She put a small star on the lower side of each nail and I had to ask "Is that it?" I indicated to throw in a few extra stars and maybe a dab of silver or gold, have fun with it, fill up the space. She acted even more annoyed and said "that's too much." Now I'm pissed, because money was NOT an issue at all. If I'm paying, just do the damn design. I don't even ask for perfection, I've had simple lines made and they looked great too. Easy to please here! Then I noticed that the gel didn't cover the whole nail, there were sides missing and hadn't been painted at all, just bare nail! Again, she seemed annoyed and quickly painted over the skipped areas. I was long overdue for eyebrows at least before leaving, and the same artist was also the waxing specialist. Waxing was very quick and almost painless. When I realized the brows were finished in maybe a total of 2 minutes, I requested the legs be done. Also very quick, maybe 15min (I'm tall with long legs). The only issue I had was I had to put point out a few areas, strips of hair that were missed. When I got home and jumped through the shower I still found a few spots and had to shave. The only reason I give 2 stars is for the price. Paid $75 for everything: gel manicure with nail designs, pedicure, eyebrow wax, and leg wax. I would go here from time to time and get my nails done. I didn't really have much of an issue since I only did go around 3-4 times when I finally found a better salon. The last time I came here was about a year ago back and it was the worst experience ever (kept forgetting to write a review). I got a pedicure before getting my nails done, worst decision ever! This guy did my toes and I don't even know what he was using but he used a brush that left my feet raw and in pain! Then I sat down for a fill and they completely butchered my nails! The shape was all wrong and the gel nail polish was tacky and had clumps. I was super disappointed but I'm not one to make a scene and I thought that maybe I was overreacting. The next day I still felt my feet and toes raw, I looked and I had a few red spots, I honestly panicked and thought about getting an infection. I kept looking at my nails and was super disappointed so I called and Tina answered, I told her I was extremely disappointed and wanted my nails done again. Tina said that I would get them done again free of charge if it was with the same guy, I asked if someone else could do them and she said she would have to charge. Like really!? Called for a quote on a fill was told it was $12.99 so I went in and got my nails filled and he proceeded to charge me $19.00. I said I was told it was $12.99 and that is also what the sign outside says. He said oh no you got gel fill so it's $19.00. I never asked for gel and didn't realize he was putting gel. I am extremely upset I I feel they took advantage. I will never go here again and warning to others they won't ask what you want they will just do what they want.
