I now live Out of the area but I have gone to Carolyn in the past and sometimes when in town, she squeezes me in. Not only love her personality and customer service , but her highlights and cuts are amazing. She also does my daughter's hair which always looks top-notch. Well as of yesterday , Carolyn has once again gone above and beyond with her talent and has highlighted and cut my granddaughters long hair, it looks absolutely amazing! Carolyn. You're the best. Three generations here truly do appreciate and love your dedication and talent. You're the best. Gigi read more

This is my second time being here. My first time was the consultation I had with Jose. I came five minutes before they closed however Jose was able to give me a quote and an appointment after he was done with his client. Both times I was here this place was packed- us and each and every hairstylist had one client. This salon is kind of small but very homey. Most importantly it is very clean and sanitized. I booked my highlight, lowlight and kariten treatment with Adriana four days after my consultation. I usually have extensions in and prior to coming here I had very damaged bleached hair. I was here for six hours but my hair has never looked so good. I spend over 50% less of what I usually spend in the hair salons in LA. The staffs here are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Most importantly they're all very adaptable. Thanks again Adriana!! read more

In keeping with my spirit of my first encounter with Valarie you can pop over to the review I left about her at Ulta. I only see Valarie so she can put "hands on me" like in the spiritual kind of way, she puts her holy hands on my hair and cures it if it's ratchetness. I'm sure she wishes my hair good heath and beauty, and happiness. My hair always turns out amazing, beautiful etc, I get all the compliments and I don't have to do a thing other than sit and be pampered. Since meeting her in May of 2018 I have only had her work on my hair. No late night drunk, hair box dying sessions, I have given up my terrible ways. She worked on my hair when it was long, we got ballsy and chopped it off and now it's growing back like a weed. The hair coloring is always on point she has an amazing balayage and color melt technique. She is also friendly and personable and makes for good conversation. I want to also add that the new location is at 485 Broadway and has ample parking. I definitely suggest you ask for Valarie but I hear great things about all the staff! Check them out, it will be HEAVENLY!!! read more

My daughter went to get her hair colored and had a very bad experience with Hanna. She didn't receive the hair that she wanted and told my daughter to wash it a couple times and it would lighten up. My daughter went home and washed her hair it still looked the same. She went back the very next morning to get it redone and Hanna was running late and the other hairstylist (who was very nice) called her and when she got there she seemed very upset she had came back. She wouldn't admit it wasn't what my daughter wanted was very rude about redoing it. When she had the foil in her hair she could hear Hanna in the corner saying she was going to fry her hair because she had come back. My daughter started tearing up and Hanna finally changed her attitude. Obviously we will not be seeing Hanna again read more

I yelped the salon because I'm new to the area and I have to say it was a good choice. I got attended by Hana and she did an amazing job. They worked on me pretty fast considering I was 10 minutes late to the appointment. When I google it gave me directions to the back entrance not the front. But the service was good and the price was awesome. I end up doing bayalage blond and I fell in love with it. The only reason I gave it 4 not out of five because of the space I think it's to small and the setting arrangement dose not work. But other han that it was a very good choice. read more

I went to this salon a few days ago, and had an awesome experience. First, I had called to see if they had any availability, on a Saturday, and was surprised when they told me to come in an hour later. My stylist (Hana) was wonderful, very friendly, and had great suggestions. She even convinced me to get some color, and fit me in between her other clients, without forgetting about me. Ive worked in salons and been to quite a few and this was by far one of my best experiences. I highly recommend The Chopping Block. My hair looks and feels great, and I left feeling like it was completely worth the reasonable cost. FIVE STARS read more

Went in for a consultation and was able to get an appointment with Hannah the same day. I wanted to go light but since my hair was really dark, she recommended the shade I went with. I really loved how it came out and also appreciate my hair is still healthy. Definitely coming back. read more

Excellent stylists, Have had 3 of the staff cut my hair and not one bad cut, in fact great cuts. They are all young and know what they are doing. No where in the valley can you get a great cut with a shampoo, blow out and styling for $25. I highly recommend them all. Danna Romo read more

Been going since my friend Ray worked there, probably about five years now. I've always gotten a stylish cut when I go, and usually my hair grows out in such a manner that the hair cut has a lasting effect. I started going as I said because a buddy of mine from my amateur dramatic days worked there but I keep going because they know their craft. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the hair cuts and dye jobs that the chopping block has performed over the years. I enjoyed the one time that I got my eyebrows threaded, its certainly better than plucking or waxing them. read more

I really had a great experience with Jose he is super friendly and does a great job. I am new to the area and super nervous about trying a new beauty salon after being with my regular girl for 5 years. Love the job he did I'm so excited about my new style. read more

Hip Looking Place, Out of Date Hair Dos I have long layered hair and asked for a simple trim. I was really disappointed when my stylist, Hannah, removed all my layers and gave me blunt lines. I told Hannah that I did not like how she cut it. She saw that I was not pleased and offered to fix it. Unfortunately, she was not able to fix it despite it being a simple procedure. I went to The Chopping Block because so many people recommended Hannah. Had I known that I was going to get a hair cut that looks like someone put a ruler to my hair and cut in a straight line, I would have done it myself. I made an emergency appointment to fix it tomorrow somewhere else. Hannah is also the threading specialist. However, in my opinion, I did not receive the work of a specialist. Hannah left one eyebrow noticeably thicker than the other. I was squeamish, but after speaking with other customers who also used Hannah's services, they reported that they also received the same mediocre quality of threading. read more

Although this salon has been around since last December, I just went for the first time last week. The Chopping Block is a cute clean salon with a fun vibe. Carolyn cut my hair, and I couldn't be happier with the results! She's so knowledgeable. I highly recommend her! Bonus: The prices are so reasonable! read more

Like some girls, I get really anxious when it comes to my hair. No matter how descriptive you are about the style you want, some stylists manage to chop off more! Even though the name of this Hair Salon is called The Chopping Block, I can assure you the stylists here will make sure you get your desirable hairstyle. Highly recommend Carolyn! She's very friendly, and makes sure you feel comfortable. I came in today for a haircut and I absolutely loved it! Already made my next appointment! read more

I got the worst hair cut of my life there, and when I told the guy I was unhappy his response was "well in a month it will look great if your hair grows fast". I had been growing out my hair for three years and he managed to butcher it in ten minutes. And to make things worse he charged a bigger tip then what I had written down. read more

I have been going to Carolyn, the owner of this salon for years and I won't go to anyone else. She has a great eye for trends and the best cuts to flatter your figure. She's the best with color. She can take make you feel safe when trying new and adventurous colors but is also respectful when you want to stick with the classics. I live in San Diego and I've tried my fair share of salons in SD yet I keep coming back to Carolyn in my home town because I always leave the salon happy with my cut and color. Not to mention their services are very fairly priced. Book her in advance! There's a reason she's busy all the time. read more

I have been coming here for several years and have always had a great experience. I also like that they use Paul Mitchell hair color because it doesn't damage my hair like other dyes. They also have very reasonable prices. Fun people, fun atmosphere, and they do great hair! read more

I have very curly hair and I am always apprehensive of getting it cut or trimmed. I had an appointment with Reyna. I explained to her what I wanted and she was awesome. She brought what was previously a bad cut to life. She did a great job and made me feel at ease. I would definitely return with her again and take my daughters to her as well. read more

I hardly go anywhere because I keep my hair in long layers and have had bad haircut experiences before. I decided to try the Chopping Block because I purchased a voucher online for a cut and color for 36 dollars. I didn't need or want a color so just went for the cut. Santiago cut my hair. I told him I had been cutting my own hair for a while and just needed to get the layers blended in. I didn't mind a couple inches off the length. The whole time Santiago cut my hair he had my chair facing away from the mirror. By the time I got out he had me looking like Rachel from friends and apprx 6 inches off my length. I have him a 10$ tip thinking i would be able to look at it better from home and analyze the style better. I still can't fix it. It's a blunt cut from my chin and then a small piece of long layer at the nape. I'm done going anywhere for a long time. I don't want to think of my hair being ruined because I'll get depressed but in reality it will take a long time for it to grow back out and look normal! read more

I love this place! Jose is the best. I honestly don't trust anyone else in The Valley with my hair. Hands down, best place to get your hair styled in the valley. Jose is amazing! I went here to get my hair fixed after a horrible hair cut and I'm so glad I did so. I left the salon feeling so much better and completely happy with my new hair style. Jose is such a perfectionist with such great attention to detail, you can't go wrong with him. After washing, cutting and styling my hair, he busted out his scissors again and defined my cut some more. This is my go to place from now on read more

The Chopping Block is awesome! I just found a great beauty salon, and great hairdressers with great prices. My hairdressers name was Reina, she graduated from Paul Mitchell beauty school. My hair was looking grey and drab and she mixed a color for me that is perfect and really looks good. She's young and nice and very talented. My hair style made me feel so good! The salon is very clean and all the hairdressers were good. I recommend this salon to everyone! The Chopping Block located on Main st, El Centro. read more

This salon needs a lesson or two in customer service. My daughter asked for curls and her hair half up and for $55 she left the salon with her curls falling down and no style at all. When I asked for a refund the stylist said well she changed her mind three times on how she wanted it and touched her hair several times. This caused her hair to go flat and all the curls to come out. This is not true. Even when styling hair you may change the way you put it up, but curls should stay in during the process. My daughter did not comb it, she did not run her fingers through it, nor did she remove any curls because the curls were falling straight all by themselves. If a customer does get what they paid for, they should be refunded. This is good business. If you want repeat customers and a good review, then you should ensure your customers are satsfied, not blame the client for changing her mind and touching her hair. read more
