I was really disappointed with my experience at Trendsetters. Unfortunately, professionalism seems to be lacking, as the owner and staff frequently gossip about their clients once they leave. Communication is also frustrating-calls are rarely answered, and messages often go unanswered, leaving customers feeling ignored. On top of that, the prices are quite high for the area, making the service feel overrated than worth the cost. Trendsetters is NOT the cream of the crop for sure! If you're looking for a salon that prioritizes respect and responsiveness, this might not be the best choice. I'm really surprised that they have been in business this long with their subpar service and staff. read more

Trendy hair and good salons are hard to come by in this town. Trendsetters definitely covers it. Lizette, is my hair stylist. But I have nothing bad to say about any of the other ladies in the salon. Every single one of them is kind and extremely helpful. The salon offers many trendy services other than hair including but not limited to: *Brazillian Blow Out *Fake Bake: Spray Tan *Featherlocks *Airbrush Make-Up *Waxing *Twinkle Toes etc... I go to Lizette, because she is the first person I have ever gone to who does exactly what I ask. If I don't want too much cut off, she leaves it alone. If I want to go from brunette to platinum blonde and everyone else says it's impossible, she finds a way to do it and do it well. If I want wild colors in my hair or something funky, she finds a way to make it look chic. She's is a great suggestion for daring colors and wild cuts, as is Roxy. Don't freak out, this isn't one of those places that strictly serves girlie girls and teens-young adults. This salon has a wide variety of customers. For first time customers who are men, or maybe women looking for something chic and classy or traditional, Rosa is a great option, as she is a well respected hair stylist with time under her belt. Interested in some hot nails? Make an appointment with Sandra. She is an absolute pleasure to talk to, and has the newest nail trends, a creative style, and a wide vareity of lovely colors. You even get your own comfy chair to sit in while you get a pedi. The salon has a comfortable and trendy vibe to it, making your experience there, one to remember. I haven't found a salon in San Diego that comes close to offering what Trendsetters does, and it blows me away that we are lucky enough to keep such talent in The Valley. read more

I hope people that are interested from LA & the IE area see this shit. Fuck Instagram "send me pictures of your hair" thats all pump. They also DON'T answer the phone on purpose. Three hairdressers not doing a damn thing but screening each incoming call. What a bunch of morons. Isn't that what a salon is for to set appointments n shit? So prospects you've been warned, Don't even waste your time playing these bitches games. You knew I was driving 3 hours back and forth just so you can end up saying on my appointment day "your hair is too much of a challenge and will take me all day" damn you would think someone with so much experience as you claim to have would be willing to at least "try". I was willing to cut it short just to make it easier & even pay the 300 you asked for. I dodged a bullet, I'm platinum blonde now for 190 OOOWWW!! Up yours bitches! read more

Urgh I have waited awhile to write this review just because I needed to cool off. I made an appointment for 3:30 pm on Friday; I arrived promptly and was told to take a seat, so I did. 4:35 rolls around and they are now ready to see me (minus 2 stars) The girl starts me on my process of which she told me over the phone would be a consultation and the process starts at $175.00 for the Brazilian Blow Out. So I thought that sounds about right being that it is El Centro. Well she immediately sends me to get my hair washed by the 15 year old apprentice who was very nice but splashed me in the face a few times (oh well no big deal) I was transferred between 3 different people before landing in one spot to complete the rest of the treatment. It's a long process which accounts for the fact that it is so expensive. Well 4.5 hours later I am done and go to pay, they don't take credit cards or debit cards so I knew I would have to go get cash and the owner tells me its $400.00.....WTF I am sorry but I get this process done once every 6 weeks for $185.00 dollars, she proceeded to tell me the reason is because my hair is so long (it sits at the bottom of my shoulder blades) and $175 is for short hair, where is her logic in $400.00?! I felt like I had been duped or robbed. I felt my heart in my stomach for the night. To top it off the owner had her posse there when I got back and when I walked in to pay them, they all just stared at me like I'm trash because I had tried to get the owner to explain and she blew me off. If you are willing to pay that kind of money for that service go to the Roberto Madera Salon in Palm Desert, it is $350.00 there and they serve you chilled champagne and appetizers in a comfortable atmosphere do not pay $400.00 at a salon in Downtown El Centro, sit on uncomfortable chairs and not be in a friendly or clean environment. If you don't want to pay that much Ultra Salon in La Quinta does it for $175.00 no matter what length your hair is! read more

I went to Lizette (as I had for many years) to have her look at my hair to get a price for what I wanted done. My hair was black but I let her know that underneath the black I had highlights and she said it wasn't a big deal. She told me it was going to be $300 for two sessions. Once the day of my appointment came around she bleached my hair and it was horrible!!! It was an ugly coppery orange color. Not to mention I had been there for 6 hours. When I was about to pay I gave her $150 (as I was under the impression that I would pay $300 for both sessions not EACH session) and told her I would pay the other half when she finished.... but it was then she clarified it was $300 per session. I felt trapped, I obviously had to pay her but I could NOT believe it. My hair was completely damaged, stringy, gummy and disgusting. I had to cut my hair to my jawline in order for it to grow again. I never went back to her salon for the second session.. it seems like she just wants to make a quick buck and isn't interested in the best interest of her clients hair. read more

This place is really hyped so I followed them on Instagram. I asked for an estimate and the first time they responded to let me know they work on Saturdays now. I sent a pic of my hair explaining what I wanted to do to my hair and I was left on read....twice!!!! Extremely unprofessional. read more

Highly do not recommend coming here for a color. Got charged around $300 for a brassy ugly looking hair color

Do you guys ever answer your Phone!? Been trying for weeks to get an appointment. I won a gift certificate at the IV Press Gala back in May. Since then I have tried numerous times to call and can't get through. The one time I did get through I was told that Lizette is booked and very busy...Wow even though I told the person I talked to I've been trying for weeks to get through and I don't want a $35 haircut just a trim. My schedule is as Important as yours. Please keep that in mind. read more

Got my hair done back in February by a hair dresser who is now no longer there. The girl did a great job but the price was outrageous. The salon is only good as their hair dressers and all the good ones have left. read more

The owner is a con artist. She told me she was going to sell me 500 dollar extensions from San Diego, when I noticed they were from the calexico hair extension shop. Then the lady who put them on cut the extension hair...what was the point of having to pay 500 dollars for long hair if she cut it...worst money investment I have ever made. When I tried to reason with the owner she yelled at me and made me cry. There are talented people who work there but not the owner she has some major issues and it shows in her mannaging skills!. read more

I've been a customer for years at this salon. Certainly has potential and most girls that work there are skilled. Throughout my experience in the past 8 years I've noticed both men and women of several ages come in and noticed the stylists are up to something different, not too conventional which is great and very appealing. They certainly can handle most of their customers requests for taste. However, I can vouch for other reviews that yes, the purposely do not answer the phone. Seen it on both their locations for several years. Getting an appointment is complicated, best way to get one is to go there. I don't mind it but at times it may be inconvenient. The good thing of stepping in to get an appointment: it is ideal for you to get a vibe of the place and who will potentially transform you. The owner, Liz, is fairly talkative, builds up the experience and is enthusiastic and hands down, Ive seen her do a lot of girls, from simple to crazy stuff. Knows what she's doing. However, for years Ive heard her occasionally "cushioning the blow" per say about making fun of clients, make faces to other employees at the sight and response of current clients, also including discussing previous appointments, plus she has a loud voice, its not hard to decipher and difficult not to hear. Most if not everyone talks behind backs and perhaps we're not better than what we see out there but the key is to keep it to yourself or simply where it's safe, right? She only cut my hair once out of the many appointments I had given the lady that does my hair was out, and even though shes capable she lacked communication, assumed the pattern of color I wanted and color too. (Fantasy color dye). I rolled with it since I noticed she was doing okay, it was until the bleach application I felt where she applied it at the back of my head. I told her how I wanted it and she didn't confirm she understood. I asked her to cut my bangs a certain way but she wasn't sure neither tried to understand she unsurely did it. Weird since I know she got the skills. And to sprinkle it off, she is very pricey, she didn't ruin my hair but that was not worth what she charged me neither it was exactly what I asked. What I criticize is her lack of trying to better communicate and convey she understood, average customer service and availability. Liz is more of an instinctual roll with it type of stylist which is not my style. Works with a lot of people but nah, I like things a certain way. Being said, why did I came here despite of what I've mentioned and why did she do my hair? Ive been a customer for years with another stylist who was unavailable at the time, and like I said there's potential in here and I thought she could handle it, Perhaps I'm the "too picky and demanding" kind but that's what they're for. It is important to trust who you're trusting your hair to. I just hope Liz minds seeing the reviews and trying to amend some of the reviewers concerns to better serve because they got potential, people just keep coming back, I'm people. Hopefully this helps both staff and girls looking for the right place. 3 out of 5 for skill, customer service and availability is very important, thats two stars right in there. Peace, really. read more

The inside was not very nice, and they charge double what other salons in the area charge. Do yourself a favor and get a second quote before you get riped off by them. They don't deserve to be in business. read more

I went in for a cut & I'm happy with it. The salon is nice, but it needs some attention...needless to say the reception desk is bent held up with..paint cans.. But then again my hair does look good ;) read more

Money well spent! For years I had hairstylist tell me that they were unable to highlight my hair due to dying it dark and having too much dark pigment in it. Found out that was an excuse inexperienced hairstylist tell their clients. This salon knows what they are doing. They will highlight and color your hair in no time. I love going in and seeing all the new creative hairstyles/color they do in there. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. I've found making an appointment by texting the best way to get an appointment. Each time I've gone in a new product is used on my hair, whether it's a new flat iron, iodized hairdryer or brush from a show my hairstylist went to. I look forward to my trips to this salon. They keep it exciting and take good care of your hair. read more

Just as another person stated on Yelp, this place NEVER picks up their phone. Like do I really have to walk into the salon just to book an apt? Also, why are your salon hours not posted online either. So much for trying to get business. read more

I wasnt pleased with the customer service, I went there to inquire about their hair extensions methods, and the girl didnt seem to be that interested in explaining it to me. She kind of just said make an appointment... I wish she had taken the time to explain it to me-- they might have had a new client. Also they dont have any innovative hair extensions methods, or eyelash extensions. For being in the valley i find the prices are really high also, for that price I rather just go to san diego. read more

My favorite stylist came back to work at this salon, so naturally I followed her back here. I feel like things have either improved a lot, or maybe I just didn't give it a fair chance the first 2 visits. It feels much more professional now, and although the cute nail bar is gone...they gained another great stylist with lots of experience. Go see Roxy or Rosa...and if you happen to be looking for something hip and edgy, they'll know how to do it! read more

This place is cute and trendy, decorated in magenta and black, animal prints and sequins. The staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. However, I was disappointed with the quality of the color service I received. I went in to have my roots done. I have naturally brown hair, but have been bleaching it out to platinum (not an easy or quick color service, I know, but I'm willing to take the time and pay for the extended services). My roots were bleached and... That's it. No toner/color correction. No color to match the platinum. While it's a subtle difference, the yellow vs. platinum is definite. Also, I asked for subtle copper low-lights and ended up with vertical brown stripes in my hair, a look that harkens back to the early 2000's. I've had worse done to my hair and it's only hair, but I've received much high quality and trendy/contemporary services from franchise salons. I am disappointed because Trendsetters came so highly recommended by a close friend; she will be getting an earful. read more
