REVIEW FOR FUTURE EMPLOYEES: My husband was just laid off from Cruz due to "seasonal lay offs" (laid off the day before Thanksgiving). When he was offered the position, it was for a full time operator and was not told that seasonal lay offs happen every year. During his time, he experienced poor management, lack of communication, and cutting corners on job sites. My husband was a heavy equipment operator on a job site. He has 10 years of operating experience and had never experience such poor communication between upper management and the team on the ground before. His foreman spent more time away from his team than there directing them. One of the laborers had to get up early (without being paid for the extra time) to get a work truck so that they had the tools they needed to do their job because the foreman wasn't there doing his job. He was directed to poor native soil and rock on top of utility lines instead of following proper protocols. We also had a baby during that time and my husband asked for and was granted a few days of vacation to be present at the birth and take care of me (his wife) for the week after having our baby before going back to work. While we were still in the hospital, he was told he would have to go back to work the next day. I had to get someone else to be with me and my child when we were discharged. When he was offered the job, his employment packet stated they had paid federal holidays. After a month working there, they decided to no longer pay for holidays BUT STILL TAKE THAT TIME OFF! They offer insurance to their employees and family at a "discounted" rate, but for a family of three, it would have costed us $1400/month. It was cheaper to purchase insurance privately. Finally, the day my husband was laid off, they asked him to work late and told him his final date for employment would follow their pay periods. Because of that, and knowing it was Thanksgiving, my husband asked to apply paid time off to that holiday because we wouldn't get paid for it by the company. They said they would AND THEN THEY DIDN'T. When we called them out, they denied him that time and basically told us to pound sand. If you are thinking of applying here, be wary. There are many other companies in the area that will give you better benefits, training, management, and more than what is offered at Cruz. read more

Cruz Construction did an amazing job replacing our driveway and changing the slope to make it easier to access our parking area. On day one, they improved the slope of the driveway, put down a 4" compacted gravel base, installed a channel drain and then excavated an 8'x6'x6' pit next to the driveway for our BMP filtration project. Day two they put down 4" of compacted asphalt and worked the product to give us a beautiful finish for our new driveway. They even agreed to deliver 13 yards of gravel to the site for our BMP Project on their return trips from Carson. This saved us both time and money and helped us complete the BMP's to "Keep Tahoe Blue". I would highly recommend Cruz, they went above and beyond to insure we were satisfied. Make sure your quote and bid spells out in plain English of what is expected when they come out to do the work. We have used this company in the past with no issues.. we thought we would use them again, same job, same place, new driveway.. should have been a no brainer... double what we paid for the same job on a new driveway but we were assured it would be a thicker then normal coat and we would have a smooth driveway.. guess what? That didn't happen.. we got a thin coat and no smoothness on the driveway.. after much discussion with the estimator who came over when I requested the "boss" to come he left with no resolution except to add a layer of asphalt on our driveway.. I said no, it's thick enough and I don't need more height.. I just wanted another layer of seal.. we even offered a few more dollars to get the crew back out.. he said he would talk to the "boss" I waited until the next morning and called to try to get the issue resolved, the "boss" was rude and made snarky comments about my husband, comments that were not helpful in trying to resolve the issue at hand.. he said he would call back, he never did.. I then received an emailed invoice with no comments on the issue.. A couple of hours later I received another invoice with 100.00 discount for our "inconvenience" This isn't about money, it's about being charged double with the assurance we were getting a much better job and end result compared to the old job on the old driveway.. we just wanted what they said they could deliver.. they failed I mailed them a check for the full amount of the original invoice.. I don't want their 100.00 discount, I want contractors who stand behind their work and deliver on their assurances.. I will never recommend this company to anyone again. read more

Thanks to Cruz Construction I have a perfect driveway entrance which was stress-free for me. Eldon was my estimator and managed the project from beginning to end. My only regret is that I wish I had met this team sooner. Last year I had my driveway redone and due to the implementation of an easement permit to codes that made no sense for a steep driveway, I was left with an impassable driveway and a contentious relationship with the local building department. We live in Incline Village NV. and needed some construction work done at the house. I had seen a school being built near the golf course on Hwy 28 and Cruz Construction banners were advertising the new school under construction. I called Cruz and spoke to a lovely lady who was friendly and knowledgeable. She was able to direct me to the next level where yet again another person friendly and willing to listen to my vision for our home project. Shortly after our conversation, the representative from Cruz came to the house to meet regarding our project. We had Cruz install a new asphalt driveway with the required BMP's for runoff. They also did 220 linear feet of retaining wall build from rock one stone at a time. Anyone for a game of Tetris. Cruz has the skilled craftsmen to handle any job large or small. I needed front & back paver work done and the other companies I had called took months to call me back to "schedule" start time. I called Cruz Construction and they sent someone out to my house the next day. The day after that they had an estimate for me and the day after I signed it they were at my house and starting the job. The workers were so fast, effective, on-time every single day and they respected my home (never left trash laying around & cleaned up after). It was AMAZING! I hired Cruz Construction to redo my driveway, regrade and repave a private alley I share with my neighbor, and bury some communication lines. Though Cruz obviously and usually works on much larger projects, they treated me (a homeowner who was overwhelmed by the scope of the project) with the utmost professionalism and respect, and every aspect of their work was first-rate. My main contact, Billy Dunn, was very timely in getting me estimates and excellent in communicating in general. There were a lot of moving parts to the project, with three different utilities involved. There was also another major road project happening on my street at the same time. The four different Cruz crews: excavation, concrete, asphalt, and paving, all did an excellent job of working together and with the other construction team to make sure things went as smoothly as possible. On top of that, the quality of their work was fantastic. I want to specifically single out the excavation foreman, Tom Shane, for his conscientiousness and extreme attention to detail. His ability to communicate with me about potential issues and difficulties were invaluable to me. I always felt like he was looking out for me and doing the work as if he were doing it for himself. His crew, Nick and Tyler, on top of doing great work, kept the construction site as clean as I've ever seen one maintained.
