The hotel was decent, that's why I didn't rate one star, but the service staff is pretty awful... - I went to the front desk a total of twice, and with two employees and one other customer there, they couldn't seem to get their sh*t together and help two customers at once. - The bar/lounge seemed to have issues. My husband and I were just looking for drinks and apps. One of the bartenders rushed in with her purse (I'm assuming she was late) and everyone ignored us until my husband found one running by and asked if we could have drinks and maybe a menu - passing bartender or whatever she was said that they were very busy...did this mean we could or couldn't? We went elsewhere. - Wi Fi did not work in the conference rooms. Huh? - When my husband (who is not smart phone friendly), called the front desk trying to find out if anyone knew the weather forecast, he was answered with "Heck if I know." Come on people, at least give him the number of the weather channel. - The evening before I checked out, I asked the girl at the front desk if they had late check outs available - she said they did for rewards members, and I said I'd let them know if I needed it. The next morning, I called the front desk to let them know I would like a late check out. A somewhat annoyed sounding guy responded that they had too many people checking out at check out time and he couldn't do it. (Erm, I'm trying to check out LATER...hello?) I stated I was a rewards member and he repeated himself. Knowing I would get nowhere, I just said okay and hung up. Wouldn't recommend. The hotel itself was clean and I wasn't afraid to sleep in the bed, but wouldn't recommend it to just stay. read more

Well, I just checked in, but I will never be doing that again! Somehow, I booked 2 rooms under my same name and after begging and speaking to the "general manager", there was no forgiveness for this honest mistake. I understand this is hotel policy, but it was only 3:00 p.m. and I'm certain that if the hotel is truly sold out as I was told, they would have no problem giving away one of my rooms. The girl who "helped" me was useless. She did not tell me where to go upon checking in or give me any type of clue as to where I can find my rooms. She also tried to just give me one of the room keys, until I insisted on taking both keys with me. Once I got to room #1, I was disgusted by the number of dead flys on the window sill in the room (in November?????) I cannot even imagine when it was last cleaned. Even though I have two rooms in this hotel, I'm thinking about sleeping in my car tonight, since I am stuck here for another day's worth of conference events. I'm assuming, as far as business goes, it would have been much cheaper to cancel my reservation that suffer this (and the other ones too!) terrible review on Yelp! Wow. Stayed here 22-24 July. Room was pretty dirty considering the prestige of this hotel. Housekeeping completely missed servicing our room for no reason. We called and got the problem fixed. Staying here again 26-30 August. Guess what happened. No housekeeping service. Called and asked that we get fresh towels. They were left on the floor outside the room. Really? You might get that at motel 6 but at the Crown? I cancelled all reservations I have booked here for upcoming travel. Staff is very good at lip service and apologies but not at providing a a quality stay. This place is definitely on my do not stay list. read more

Why, why, why WHY don't I consult Yelp every single time before I book a hotel?!?! Sooner or later I'll learn from this mistake, but the moral of the sad story of my stay at this hotel is that the crappy reviews are 100% correct, even charitable. The Crowne Plaza Hotel Springfield is the tallest hole I have ever seen. First off, I booked via priceline.com, jiggering the search parameters hoping to get either this place or the Hilton, Abe Lincoln or the State House. I could have excluded it based on geographical filters, but dummy here figured what the hell, Crowne Plaza joints are usually pretty nice, and then when I "won" this one, I still felt like I got a good deal for $60 for a night. I could not have been more wrong if I suggested that Michael Bay should remake Dr. Strangelove. A standard 2-star hotel would have been better, cheaper, and would feature free continental breakfast. Okay, I think I have exorcised my frustration enough. Here is why I am so down on the Crowne (no exaggerations past this point, I promise): 1) Everything is dated. The TV was probably 15-20 years old. It was hard to read on-screen text from the bed, and all the numbers on the remote were long worn-off. The elevators had tons of graffiti scratched into them and were just shabby. Many room features were relics from the period of bad design that seemed to reign from 1970-1990. 2) They failed to corral smokers. The 10th was supposedly the smoking floor, but smokers chained all night (a Tuesday, WTF) on the 4th. The smoke invaded our room like a bad WWII pun. Noise transmission was also pretty bad, even though the other guests were not all that loud. 3) The water pressure was weak and never got really warm, even during off-peak times. 4) Everything was really expensive. Movies for $19.99 a pop? Muffins for $9? Go to Charlie Parker's for a great breakfast (pancakes the size of toilet seats), forget about eating at this joint. 5) Everything was dirty. The TV remote was crusty. The floors and walls throughout just looked dingy and old (except the nice lobby). There were ladybugs all over, too. The good things that I can recall are: the desk in the room had a Herman Miller chair, the bathroom was decent sized, and the 2 folks I interacted with at the front desk were cordial, efficient and made note of my concerns, even offering a comped meal on the next stay, but I said no thanks. Everything else at the hotel was exactly what you would expect from a 2 star hotel, but not the 3 star hotel this place represents itself to be. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service at this hotel. I checked in a mere 2 hours after normal check in time only to be told my King Sized Bed that I was supposed to have was not available. At last minute a room was found and I was told it was a king, but when we got to the room it was ONE DOUBLE BED. I tied to call down to the front desk to complain and see what could be done and the front desk person was EXTREMELY RUDE and could have cared less that she just put us in a room with only one double bed. She tried to tell me my reservation didn't guarantee a room type which is NOT TRUE! I checked my reservation and it said NOTHING about the room not being guaranteed. I don't care how beautiful your hotel is, if you have ugly employees who are rude to customers you can suck it. read more

This Hotel looks ok in the outside, the room was semi - clean (found some of the belongings of the previous occupant). We only stayed for one night. My husband and I arrived in the evening, so we were hungry and thought it would be a great idea to go check out their bar and grill. Big mistake! We sat in there for 35 mins. The waitress blessed us with a look within the first 5 minutes, after that she tended to the party of 10 that came after us, she refilled the drinks of the other 4 table that were occupied, but did not come to take our order, she did not even offer drinks. NOTHING! The bartender looked at us, said something, but did not do anything either. Now I like to give people the benefit of doubt, but we were the only Hispanics in the restaurant, we were also the only ones not being taken care of. After those insipid 35 minutes, we left, and found an excellent restaurant outside of the hotel. Needless to say, we will never, ever again book with this hotel. Horrible staff, and unprofessional! The hotel was clean, the amenenties we used were okay and the housekeeping staff was friendly. I reserved the room online for a Thursday check in and a Sunday check out. The reservarion was made for a two queen bed non-smoking room with four guests. Upon check in they "upgraded" us to a one king bed, two room suite, non-smoking. The website states those suites have a maximum capacity of three guests. When we told them we had four guests and the suite wouldn't work the placed us in the original room reserved. Friday we decided to go to the deck then to the pool room and sit in the hot tub. There were youth in the pool while the responsible parties were at a table drinking that were throwing a ball around, not an issue. They hit two of us twice and were asked to pay attention to what they were doing. When my party was hit the fourth time we told them they were done and placed the ball by the stairs. During both confrontations the parties responsible did and said nothing. Upon leaving the a responsible party, after a youth said something came to get the ball from the stairs, taking a defensive posture as if we were wrong. Housekeeping came through the area to collect used towels and failed to confront the parties about having glassware in the pool area. The entrance door to the pool has a Pool Regulations sign stating "glass, soap, lotion or other material which might create hazardous conditions or interfere with efficient operation of the swimming pool shall not be permitted in the swimming pool or on the pool deck." On Saturday when we awoke and headed upstairs we found the patio locked and event staff setting up tables. We went out to complete our tasks, read the events on the digital board and went back to our room to loud music. The board said there was an event on the balcony until 11:00p. It was loud enough that we heard and felt the base in our room. I left to investigate and found it was coming from the deck. I went down and talked to the front desk associate, after a building maintenance associate said politely to wait for them to finish their conversation in the office, who said they would look into the noise. An hour or so later I returned to the reception desk and talked to the manager who said the party music was supposed to end at 11:30p but the balcony was booked until midnight. Her demeanor suggested she really didn't care, only wanted to be paid and converse with the staff. The music finally ended at 11:38p. read more

Great hotel! I come to town monthly and stay at the HIE but come here to eat dinner because it is close and because I get a free drink coupon for being priority. I have stayed here once and I sure like it better but it is always way more expensive. I do get it though because it is a better hotel! I guess I'm too cheap! Desk team is amazing! One not so good thing though... I always have unbelievably bad service in the bar! Yet I go back every visit cause I have the darn coupon! There is always one of two bartenders and they are more than crabby and never smile! Oh and they ignore you so you actually have to get up and find them every time (seriously every time)! Avoid this hotel at all costs. I wish I had known in advance that this hotel is a tired old property that has just been foreclosed upon. But, no, my main issue is with being charged twice for one room and then having to spend a week arguing with various levels of hotel bureaucracy to try to get it resolved. One week later, the issue is still not resolved. Be forewarned. Here are the details: THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE I brought my wife and two young boys to Springfield, Illinois for Easter week to visit my ailing mother. I grew up in this town and so it is sort of sad to have to report all this. The trouble began when I checked in and discovered that the hotel chain had somehow charged me and my family TWICE for the same room. I used a personal card to book this resrevation but I also had a business card on file. The reservation was charged to both of my cards on file. The excess charge was more than $1,300. I then had to spend many hours over the rest of the week trying to dispute the over-charge. (It still hasn't been resolved.) The Springfield staff tried to blame it on "Central Booking" and, of course, "Central Booking" tried to blame the Springfield Crowne Plaza. The Springfield staff left me on my own in dealing with the Kafkaesque hotel bureaucracy in far-away call centers (first Charleston, then Salt Lake City and then Atlanta). The general unwillingness of the local staff to help me and my family was exacerbating in the extreme. But the multiple calls with a far-off "Central Booking" staff were even more maddening. Throughout the ordeal, I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the recent foreclosure of the Springfield Crowne Plaza, their related chain Intercontinental Hotels, the management company Crescent Hotel and Resorts and a local property management called IPROCSPRINGFIELD LLC. If I had known about the foreclosure and the multiple, unaccountable players involved in operating the Springfield Crowne Plaza, I would have steered far clear. I certainly won't be returning. And, as soon as I get home, I'm canceling my membership in Intercontinental's "Priority Club." If I experienced what "Preferred" customers get, then I would hate to see what the average guest gets. I travel a lot for my work. I've built up some tolerance for minor hotel mistakes. But some chains--Marriott and Hilton hotels being my personal favorites--always fix problems with a minimum of fuss and an enduring appreciation for my business. The Springfield Crowne Plaza and the related Intercontinental Hotel Group didn't once do anything in this same spirit. I encountered nothing but awful service. When Abraham Lincoln left Springfield, he famously said in his farewell remarks: "To this town and to the kindness of its people, I owe everything." I grew up in Springfield thirty years ago and always felt the same way. However, that sentiment was sorely tested during a week-long stay at the Springfield Crowne Plaza. read more

Perhaps they were on a floor that wasn't as nice (or not updated yet). My room is nice. Ya, it could use some updating but I have certainly stayed in much worse. Clean, and a good central location. I'm a Hilton/Marriott guy so I did not stay here by choice. If Hampton, HGI's are sold out, I would stay here. read more

I expected more from a Crowne Plaza. This particular location is in desperate need of a renovation. Not just the rooms, but the entire hotel just appears unclean and aged. Upon arriving in our room, we opened the door to an overwhelming musty and smoky odor. Having been warned at checkin of the high fee for smoking in the rooms, (and being non-smokers), we immediately asked for a new room. 2nd room, no smoke smell. But the refrigerator was broken, wallpaper was peeling, and the carpets were dirty. Taking a shower, I realized the tub was stopped up when I found myself in ankle deep water--yuck. I gave the hotel two stars because the front desk staff went out of their way to accommodate us with every request, and they were all very friendly. Plus, the location was convenient and close to the interstate and restaurants (Panera Bread across the street!) Overall, this Crowne Plaza has the staff & location to be great, it just needs some major attention and TLC. read more

have stayed her 11 times in the past year due to work. It is all around just OK. Seems clean enough in the room and is pretty quite, Front desk help are ok. Bar is fair, food mediocre, parking is ample and free, they have a airport shuttle. I feel like it is about the quality of a holiday inn without the free breakfast. I would probably have given 2.5 stars if that was an option but it wasn't and free breakfast would have gotten it 3. bottom line not much better in Springfield unless you don't mind train noise then stay at the Abraham Lincoln downtown--I really liked it but unfortunately the constantly running freight train blowing its whistle all night long keeps me out of down town. read more

Went to the Crowne for a week for an APIC conference. Rooms were clean and roomy, food at restaurants was delicious and the staff was the best. They bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Thank you Crowne for a glorious week! read more

The housekeeping service during my hotel stay has been sub par. My room wasn't cleaned properly on more than one night. Small things like not emptying the garbage cans, not replacing toilet paper and cleaning the desk all add up. The overall stay was nice but the cleaning staff could use some improvement. read more

For the last decade we have gone to the Crowne Plaza for Easter Brunch. Both the service and food have always been excellent. Alas, this year they changed the location, cut the food choices in half. Also, they eliminated the omlett station. The service was abysmal. They were nice but clueless. Apparently, they were just brought in for the day and just wandered around the ballroom. So the Crowne Plaza has gone from first to last...apparently a management decision to downsize. As I told the assistant manager, my family of 6 will not return. read more

The room it's self was great. Nice water pressure and the beds were so comfortable! However they seem to have a lot going on with events. This past weekend we stayed there was a children's beauty pageant going on. The Hotel was filled with little girls running around screaming with no consideration for other non pageant guests. It made our stay less pleasant. In addition there are only 3 elevators for 14 floors. We waited and waited for an empty elevator one morning and eventually just took the stairs down 8 floors for a faster route. They really advertise being a "casino hotel" don't be fooled, it's a tiny room with a few slot machines. They have a little coffee place which sells Starbucks coffee drinks, however they were all made very, very wrong. You'd be better off just driving 10 minutes down the road to an actual Starbucks. The staff was very friendly and if it hadn't been for all mass amounts of people there for the events, I would have given this hotel more stars. read more

beautiful hotel. We had a renovated room which was very nice. I found the service staff needs a lot of training in customer service. The front desk agents were robotic and lacked warmth. They chatted on the walkie talkies in front of the guests. One time, my key stopped working and I went to the front desk where nobody was there. There was no house phone in the lobby so I could not even call an operator for assistance. I waited about 4-5 minutes before someone from the back came out and said kind of matter of factly and cold, "oh, sorry. I was in the back counting his (another employee's) bank." In the restaurant, the server forgot a simple request to bring us more coffee (she stood in the corner doing nothing) and I had to call the manager over (he was very nice). The server also charged my two children as adults for the buffet. Good thing I reviewed the check. The property itself is under a $12 million dollar renovation and looks terrific. The lobby and front desk already look good in my opinion do not need a renovation. But to be a four star hotel, the staff needs serious training in service standards. Personally, I've had better service at a Holiday Inn Express. read more

Check in was fine, except there were no bellmen on duty, which made the check in process complicated. The floor I was assigned to was apparently a smoking floor, even though my room was non-smoking. I exited the elevator to a cloud of cigarette smoke - it was disgusting. No wonder the hotel gives you those little spray bottles of scent! I had to ask the staff to vacuum my room; I found out after stepping on an earring back, then an apple pit (yes the whole thing), that it was not done. The staff never apologized, but did not vacuum until the second day of my stay. I am a vegetarian (not a vegan), and when the staff was alerted, I was served, after everyone in my party was on dessert, a dish of pasta noodles with a chunky red sauce. It was okay, but it would have been better if I was not left alone eating it while the rest of my party had to leave to be on time for the next event! That evening, for the dinner banquet while everyone else was going to be served Prime Rib, I alerted the wait staff while they were serving salads, that I was the vegetarian that they were alerted of, and asked if my meal could please be served at the same time as the others were served at my table. Well, I was served a few minutes before and I asked the the lid be left on the plate until everyone else was served. When they were served, I moved the lid off of my plate and lo and behold - there it was - a plate of pasta noodles with a chunky red sauce. REALLY? Then they did switch it to a plate of (same veggies) pasta noodles without sauce! REALLY? Finally, I asked that they dump two dishes of lettuce on to one plate and let me eat that. That is what they did. Crown Plaza aims to please, I guess. This really turned me off and gave me a horrible impression. This is the second time I have been at this hotel and unfortunately, I think our group is booked for another year. I sure hope they step up their game because I feel like I spent a lot of money for extremely poor service, bad food and neglect. read more

For what you pay it's not worth it. Elevators are very slow or not working. During the two day stay I had to use the stairs because 2 of the 3 elevators were not working. I was on the 9th floor not fun. The bed was even worse. Don't eat here. A burger took about 30 min to get the fries were cold and the burger was burnt. I would not stay here again. read more

The Crowne Plaza dining room specializes in buffets. Think Golden Corral at $30. The advertised prime rib but only had it well done. Everything else looks and tastes like it came out of a box. When we walked in, it was like no other hotel I had seen. There were two escalators going opposite of each other that looked really neat. Our check in was a little slow, but there was a line. The room was pretty good for what we paid for. Now the reason for the 4 stars as opposed to 5 is the pool. It was very cold, maybe like 68 degrees. There were also many, many kids who had no respect and did a kind of "every man for his self" thing. Great hotel, just a below average experience. read more

Went there for an ISBE meeting on 10/07/2015, had trouble with the key card. The next day, I went to check out, stated that they never checked me in, and that they would take care of it. Unfortunately, when my job asked for the receipt I do not have one, when they called the hotel. The hotel printed a receipt that states I was a no show. Poor customer service, poor management, poor training. The only thing that was nice about the hotel was the gentlemen who runs the shuttle service. read more

The hotel has just finished a huge renovation. It is so clean and welcoming inside. When we checked in on 11/23/2016, the gentleman at the front desk (Ryan) was the friendliest guest receptionist my wife or I have ever met. He truly made the first impression of this hotel an amazing one. After checking in we have been completely blown away by the facilities, room, bed, and restaurants on site.
