    Beautiful hotel

This place is beautiful, came here for a work trip, and as I walk in the reception greets you kindly. Gets you set up really fast with your reservation and lets me know when breakfast, lunch and dinner starts and what they recommend me getting. I got a executive king room and it was really huge, had a very comfy bed and pillows and a couch to lounge and a desk to work. Came down for breakfast and man oh man! They have everything you can ask for! Again the employees here treat you like kings and queens! Would recommend staying here for a comfortable stay. 5 star would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

I spent most of the week at a pension and benefits conference in Kitchener. It was held at the Crowne Plaza Kitchener-Waterloo and that's where I stayed from Tuesday evening 'til today. I had a king executive room. To get to my room, I had to take an elevator to the fourth floor .... then walk down a hallway ... then take another elevator to the seventh floor. It was ($180 plus taxes for Tuesday night and the conference rate of $144 plus taxes for Wednesday and last night). My bed was comfy. You can self-park ($12/night) or valet-park ($20/night) ... we had free parking and I parked it myself. The parking building is behind the hotel (not attached). I parked my car while it was still light ... I wouldn't want to do it at night (it's down an alley) as it seems creepy. There was a fridge and microwave in the room. WIFI was free and a bit slow. I lost it yesterday so used my Internet stick instead. Our conference was on the second floor. When we booked the conference in the spring (I'm on the committee), the conference rooms were supposed to be renovated but they weren't. They were okay, just kind of dated. The hotel is downtown and there are lots of restaurants within walking distance. There seems to be a mall across the street ... it looks old and I'm not sure if it's even open (I Googled and couldn't find a link for it).

Check-in was fast, even with the long lines. What's interesting is that the front desk has these little assorted vitamin tablets to put in your complimentary water bottle. I've never seen that before, but maybe that's what happens in a country with socialized healthcare. I totally appreciate that! The room itself was clean. The AC worked fine. I find that the air can be dry in hotel rooms, but I didn't experience any issues. The lobby has a lot of seating. The on-site restaurant had good food and great service. The staff was VERY patient with my big and loud family, which I also appreciate. The property isn't too far from shopping and restaurants. Though it was summer so the weather was nice. I can't imagine walking in the middle of winter, though I guess walking would be safer than driving for me since I'm not used to driving in the snow. The nearest grocery store is like a 5-min walk so it is doable. I recommend this Marriott property if you need a place to stay in Waterloo since it's close to restaurants, shopping, and the university.

Bathroom is large and well lit and the towels are nice and large. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The free WiFi is very good or you have the option to upgrade if you're doing something that requires a lot of refreshes. We had no problem watching Netflix and doing work without the upgrade. Parking costs additional - $12 per night at time of review. There is a small garage and lot adjacent and a large parking area beneath the hotel. There are electric charging spaces available also. Facilities include an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool, sauna and gym. Everything is clean and modern and the central location can't be beat - highly recommend.

A free dedicated shuttle was promised all weekend to and from the festival from the property. I saw the shuttle three times in three days. I addressed this at check in and also with the GM at check out. We had to drive every single day because the shuttle times were not even remotely consistent. If it's every hour - great. Every half hour - great. But give guests a time to be there and stick to it. I paid more than double the hotels Nextdoor to stay at this Marriott even though I have top tier status at two hotel chains on the same street. I was hoping the shuttle would be a perk and perhaps they would offer guests staying under the festival block something that related to the festival (a welcome gift, a sticker... ANYTHING). Disappointed to say the least.

The venue provided a coordinator to the couple and that person was changed out 5 times in the year long planning. The day of coordinator snapped at guests saying that she already told us to move to our seats once already. After ceremony it was not clear where cocktails hour would take place. Turns out that it was in the same room as reception so most guests went straight to their seats (no mingling.) The cocktails were great - bartender was fast and friendly. The DJ from the venue package declared that he does not make announcements of any kind as well as his set list was very boring and the music did not flow from song to song to keep the energy up on the dance floor. Dinner salad was sporadically dressed- some people our table got dressing while others did not. Food tasted fine - the cheesecake was served scooped like ice cream which is a different presentation from the couple's tasting. The day of coordinator questioned the cold sparks which were pre-approved (lack of communication with prior contacts.) After clarification, the coordinator permitted the cold sparks. Finally the late night buffet served sliders and fries with no condiments (no ketchup at all!!) The venue specializes in weddings and in my opinionl they are doing the bare minimum.

Parking isn't available complimentary so don't forget to get it validated once you walk in or are leaving the restaurant but obviously before you get back to your car otherwise your only options will be to pay out of pocket or make the trek over the bridge and back to the restaurant. Neither option is great and will leave a sour taste after your lovely experience at the restaurant. We had appetizers, drinks and main meals. My 3 brunch companions went with vegan options but I opted for a chicken dish which exceeded my expectations with its sheer size and deliciousness. The chicken was breaded and what was obvious to me was that the panko breading was well seasoned and elevated the dish to another level. The accompanying fries were divine. I also had a small salad which was fresh and crunchy and delicious. The entire experience was a 20 out of 10.
