We went when the cherry blossoms were beginning to bloom but it was a tad bit early for the other floral arrangements to bloom in their outdoor gardens so it still felt winter-like. We started at one location early in the morning with the Arboretum. That's where you pay $25 to drive your vehicle in. Parking is ample early in the morning but when we left an hour or two later, there was a conga line of vehicles waiting to get in. So, yes you have to be there at least at around 8 AM if you don't want to wait in line or find parking. Parking is free at the main RBG region with their inside greenhouse region plus their outside garden. What I didn't like was that you had to drive out afterwards to go to the Rock Garden where you had to show your tickets again for entrance. Parking was still free though. So, overall, a lot of driving from one location to another (at least three) and a lot of walking. If you want to bring slow-walking seniors, good luck. It's beautiful scenery but a lot of walking involved.

One of the big draws for us is their very tastefully curated market shop which has everything from costume jewellery, home decor/accoutrements, classy tableware etc. Their name branded Springridge Farm chutneys, BBQ seasonings, rubs and salad dressings are outstanding! Every year they increase their repertoire. They have a ton of other jarred comestibles. They have a lovely bakery/coffee shop on site where you can relax in the garden under the large trees.

There were 4 streetcars. They ran in a circle to other areas of the park. The volunteers refurbished them to good repairs condition. Kudos to top results! Even though we came for the rail rides, we were blown away by the museum. So many ancient ones including some from early 1900's, the years around World War One. We were allowed to walk through some of the streetcars. I was glad to see an (old) advertisement to sell a detached house for CDN$69k near Toronto waterfront. LOL. This park is full of delights and treasures not easily found in the urban city of Toronto. A bit of a drive but you will be well rewarded.

If you have kids who are into trains, this is the place to go. The annual membership is worth it if you live in the area or plan to visit more than a few times. The volunteers are passionate about the streetcars, and are a wealth of knowledge. Only time they will stop the trains is if there is lightning/thunderstorms because it is too dangerous.

You'll need to get to it out in Milton, as you'd expect for a farm, but it's so worth the trip. You should also check their website and buy tickets in advance in order to ensure you can enter when you wish, and get the most out of your experience. And we certainly got a great experience! We went for the last flower-picking day of the 2021 season last Sunday, 2021.09.19. We were blessed with a beautifully sunny and warm day to enjoy the fields and flowers. When we arrived, there was adequate parking, and we were greeted at the entrance by one of the owner's children, Amy if I'm not mistaken. With a disposition as sunny as our day and all kinds of helpful hints, we were sure to have a great field day (hehe..) You can opt to just wander the fields, flowers and mini attractions (General Admission), or you can upgrade your admission to take home a hand-picked bouquet of herbs and flowers from their rows and rows of pluckable plants. We all opted to stop and not just smell but pick some flowers. If you choose that, you'll receive a mason jar and scissors upon entrance, and you can prefill your jar with some water to make sure your bouquet makes it home okay. People typically spend an hour to two hours here. We were very lucky because, the day we were scheduled, the tractor wagon rides were not going to be available; however, when we came for our 2PM entrance time, we learned that they would be available after all. They were also initially going to close at 4 that day so, be sure to double check daily times both when you book and the day you will attend. It was our first time, so we were able to just be amazed by the beauty of the farm, and all the little "surprises" along the paths. I won't spoil them here. We intend to go back again and I 100% recommend anyone else to go at least once. The family are friendly people who exude warmth and farm life health and happiness. I almost want to buy a farm for myself now! But I'm super glad to have found this place to visit and enjoy. We made memories and can now dry our bouquets as souvenirs to reminisce. The best part is, the season isn't over just yet! You may still find events coming up even though you can't pick a bouquet -- I anticipate the possibility of Thanksgiving and Halloween events, maybe even a Christmas village? 4.5 stars! It's…read morebeen hard to enjoy life as we used to with the pandemic, but I've recently started to feel comfortable venturing out to big open areas lochland botanicals! I felt 100% safe while I was here and it was so nice to breathe fresh air and all the wonderful flowers and herbs. You can either purchase general admission for $10.62 or pick your own bouquet for $22.12. With pick your own bouquet, you're given scissors to snip flowers and herbs (and you have a lot of choice to pick from!) and a mason jar to put your flowers in and bring home. The scissors are sanitized after each use! Right now you can only buy timed admission tickets. This is to limit the amount of people. The owner mentioned to us when we arrived that he had to turn away more than 100 people, but they prioritize the safety of their visitors first. Once you arrive, parking is free, to redeem your ticket you'll have to wear a mask when handing it to the attendant, but then you're allowed to roam the large open acres mask free. The only other time you'd have to wear a mask is when entering their store, which is also open air. Not once were we even anywhere close to six feet distance of someone. That's how expansive the area was and how much they limited their visitors so I was very thankful for this. Once you get in, you can stay for as long as you like. I believe the place stays open 11-5 and we stayed there from 11-4. Picnics are encouraged and they have tons of picnic tables for guests. I saw the staff spray and wipe down a table for someone who sat nearby but the bf and I bought a picnic blanket to sit under a tree. After our lovely picnic we just walked around the acres, admiring all the flowers and herbs and the info signs that came with them, and even the little fairy trees and hobbiton replica. Did I mention we were lucky enough to visit doing sunflower season? The beautiful huge field of sunflowers was wonderful. We also visited when they were distilling lavender oil so got a mini demo. When I am on vacation or am travelling, I try my best to visit a museum. I typically come to…read moreWaterloo either on business or to shop. I frankly don't know much about the history of the area. Since Canada Day landed on a Sunday this year, a lot of businesses were closed on Monday. However, Waterloo Region Museum broke out of this mode and was open. Perfect! This museum is in Kitchener. You can't miss the museum's colourful exterior and pleasing scenic view as you pull into the parking lot. I parked under a tree to provide some much needed shade for my car and walked in. Admission is $11 plus tax. The woman at the desk was kind to show me where everything was with the help of the map in the program guide. I walked over to the museum area and was greeted by an older gentleman. Everyone I talked to seemed so surprised that it was my first time at the museum for some reason. I looked like a complete tourist, armed with my digital SLR camera in hand. The man recommended that I go outside and explore Doon Heritage Village first. It has been hot outside these days and I showed up early, so the heat wasn't as bad as it could be. I spent nearly two hours exploring each building in the village and understanding how Mennonites lived in 1914. You see everything from the post office to the meat market. There are staff dressed up in clothing back in the day providing good information. There is also a farm with chickens, horses, and more. After I was done, I walked back into the Waterloo Region Museum. I looked like I had done an intense workout. I was sweating buckets, mainly because it was so hot and humid outside. I needed a towel and a shower! I sat down in the theatre to cool off and learn more about the lives of folks living in Kitchener (formerly Berlin) back in 1914. It was fascinating that I watched the whole slide show a second time before venturing into the exhibits at Waterloo Region Museum. The museum houses information and artifacts about the region, including a hall of fame on the second floor. You learn about the history of local industries, such as Schniders and Kuntz, with the latter becoming Carling and then Labatt's. I also learned about Abraham Erb, a Mennonite who settled in Waterloo from Pennsylvania, who is known to have founded Waterloo. The hotel that I am staying at is sitting on the street named after him. I loved my time here. I spent roughly 3.5 hours soaking up all the exhibits. I had a great time despite sweating so much. There is a large collection of historic artifacts displayed documenting the community's heritage. The second floor displays Canada's Hall of Fame heroes, from military to government to sports figures; it is quite informative and impressive! Outside, behind the museum, one is thrust into the era of 1914, with a steam engine, historic buildings, and artifacts, including workers in period costume. Each worker has knowledge of the respective building. There is even a historic farmhouse that belonged to a Mennonite family. Out back there are chickens and a pig. Toward the front of the house are beautiful horses. It is well worth the time to visit this museum.

Compared to other Apple u-pick places around Toronto, this price is quite steep and I don't think the farm facilities really justify the entry price. The apples were very plentiful but some tree rows were unmarked so it was a little annoying trying to figure out what variety you were picking. The petting zoo was pretty small, and the farm market is also quite small. The staff were all incredibly friendly, but overall I probably would go to another farm with a cheaper entry price.

We were happy to find new varieties of apples that we liked while walking along the rows of apple trees. Maybe it was the time of year but the pumpkin patch was looking a little sad. There were plenty of sunflowers to take nice photos by. There are various items for sale other than apples. These include pepperettes, sausages, maple syrup, honey and garlic.
