Check-in was fast, even with the long lines. What's interesting is that the front desk has these little assorted vitamin tablets to put in your complimentary water bottle. I've never seen that before, but maybe that's what happens in a country with socialized healthcare. I totally appreciate that! The room itself was clean. The AC worked fine. I find that the air can be dry in hotel rooms, but I didn't experience any issues. The lobby has a lot of seating. The on-site restaurant had good food and great service. The staff was VERY patient with my big and loud family, which I also appreciate. The property isn't too far from shopping and restaurants. Though it was summer so the weather was nice. I can't imagine walking in the middle of winter, though I guess walking would be safer than driving for me since I'm not used to driving in the snow. The nearest grocery store is like a 5-min walk so it is doable. I recommend this Marriott property if you need a place to stay in Waterloo since it's close to restaurants, shopping, and the university.

The suites are enormous and feature a king bed and pullout sleeper sofa. There's a good sized kitchenette area that's completely stocked with dishes and cutlery plus fridge/freezer, microwave, sink and dishwasher - no cooktop. Bathroom is large and well lit and the towels are nice and large. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The free WiFi is very good or you have the option to upgrade if you're doing something that requires a lot of refreshes. We had no problem watching Netflix and doing work without the upgrade. Parking costs additional - $12 per night at time of review. There is a small garage and lot adjacent and a large parking area beneath the hotel. There are electric charging spaces available also. Facilities include an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool, sauna and gym. Everything is clean and modern and the central location can't be beat - highly recommend.

To name a few of the issues we experienced: 1. about 60-70% of guests had food poisoning after the wedding. 2. We had asked for sangria to be served during the cocktail hour, they served it in a juice dispenser and completely unlabeled. Kids were drinking it until one of our family members tried it and realized it was alcoholic. 3. They were understaffed for an event of our size which meant dinner was so long! There were about 30-40 minutes between courses. It wasn't a suprise we were having a large wedding. This led to such a delay in our timeline which meant we had to rush through everything else. 4. Staff was nowhere to be found during our first dance which meant all the lights were on - they usually dim the lights, our MC's had to find them and when they couldn't they asked a guest who used to work there for help. Once we brought all of these issues to their attention, they first emailed us a whole bunch of blatant lies which I had to correct via picture proof, they finally came back and basically said they would do nothing for us. Honestly, spend your money elsewhere, you don't need that kind of stress during your wedding or after for that matter!

Firstly they only will give…read moreout 2 keys per room which when we are saving members money and putting 3 in a room, makes this more difficult than it needs to be. As many teams do, doors were decorated (with painters tape - not our 1st trip) and housekeeping ripped them down. no asking just tearing artwork down! When checking out I was told that one of the rooms I was paying for had already been paid. I told them that I had not yet paid, no reasoning or calling in someone else to help, they didn't let me pay. Knowing this was a mistake, I would figure it out with in the team, which I did. However the person who paid for my room also tried to undo it and was not able to. Then 3 days later after settling with the other person the hotel charged me. If they had just listened to either of us - maybe looked to see what other rooms that card had paid for and called them while we were still there? Terrible rude customer service with the philosophy 'the hotel is always right'. Saturday night when we returned to the hotel at 10pm after a full day of competition and an early morning on Sunday, there was booming loud music. We were on the 4th floor and it sounded like it was right under us. When we called the front desk we were told that they would be done soon. It was terribly loud and was not done for another hour .. on time change night with a 6am morning. Overall just not welcoming or helpful staff.

Comfortable beds and linens. Coffee maker, fridge AND microwave. Parking is a nominal fee, but the location is downtown so you have to pay for parking everywhere. I travel here for work often and look forward to staying here again.

Look for specialties like rouladen, schnitzel, sauerbraten and more. Since it is close to the holidays they have a roast duck special for the month of December (yum!). Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and knowledgeable. They also are licensed so lots of options for beer, wine etc. We had the duck and schnitzel. Soooo good. The duck came with red cabbage and potato patties. The schnitzel came with home fries and steamed vegetables ( although you could have spatzle if you liked). Please note that even though their online menu shows a variety of salads for those who want lighter fare - the menu handed to us did not show those options. My friend was however able to order a Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast which she said was wonderful. Her hubby had the rouladen. All the meals were great. We were covering the Black Forest cake at the end but could not do it ( the portions being very generous) so we took some slices to go! Great choice as it was delicious. Note- if you are small portion eaters think about sharing a meal or be prepared to take a good amount home with you!

I cannot believe the embarrassment I felt from Concordia! I thought it would be a nice day/evening out to take our German friends to Concordia for dinner and a few beers. What a disappointment - beyond pathetic! The food was nothing less than a bunch of slop I wouldn't even feed my dog. The old bag serving it was so belligerent even the woman selling the food tickets was shaking her head at the attitude. But enough of the customer service, that I can I get past because that's so typical of Canada anyway. It's the food that I have a real issue with - TOTAL GARBAGE! Lost my appetite just looking at it and just pushed the shit aside. Way to go Concordia, you really represented yourselves well in front of our German visitors. I'm sure they'll have a lot to talk about when they return home. First time in a long time....NEVER AGAIN!!!

What the hotel industry needs to know is that people who book their hotel rooms on apps like…read moreexpedia and hotels.com (which are the same company) should not be treated like trash. As many of you know, I travel quite a bit for work. I am in a hotel around once or twice a week. I am the people that they should want as I decide when and where to book. It's easy on the app and I get a decent price. Some of the time, I get to a hotel and they see I "APP-BOOKED" - you heard it hear first as I'm going to coin this as it's not even on Google - and I get a whole less level of service. Anyway, I app-booked and before the frontdesk realized it, he did ask me if I wanted to be closer to the front or the back of the hotel. I told him front. After not finding my booking, he asked me how I booked. He then told me to call them in the future and they would match the rate. Well thanks but that doesn't get me my 10% reward and special online services. Nonetheless, he hands me my key and I ended up trekking all the way to the BACK of the complex. Let me tell you, the place needs work and it's so outdated, it shows. By the time I got into the room, it was very pretty bad. The room looked unkept and a layer of dust had formed on the furniture. The place was as welcoming as an episode of Bates Motel. I ended up tossing the bed to look for bugs. Been bitten once, forever shy. I heard rushing air pass through the windows and I went to see what it was. The window frame was loose and even the screen was bent out of whack. I pushed the window closed and got a handful of cobwebs. Where there are cobwebs, there are spiders. A big freaking spider was looking at me like I was fresh meat. There was a dead wasp on the window sill and mold! I packed up and off to the frontdesk I went. I had the APP company on speed dial and ready to check out. I told the guy that this was less than acceptable and I asked if he would like to see all the photos I took - he was curt and told me he "believed me." WTF...you believe me? That means you know that room you gave me was Bates-worthy! In the end, he offered me the renovated suite. Which turned out to be better - but I had to downsize to a smaller room. The hotel parking lot was pretty empty so why the heck would you put me in the un-renovated room in the first place. App-booked peeps are still customers. I'm a frequent customer in the area and this would not be the place for me and it won't be for my associated either. It is never a good idea to mistreat anyone, especially frequent App-Bookers! Jeers!
