My boyfriend and I recently did a staycation, and spent nine days at this Delta in uptown Waterloo. I normally stay in the St. Jacob's area, but felt it was time for a change. When I haven't been to a hotel, I typically park outside and drop in to get details. I had a resourceful young gentleman at the front desk helping me check in. My boyfriend was hauling our belongings out of the car. If you are a Marriott gold or platinum elite member (both of us are the former, with my barely making it!), this Delta does not have a lounge. However, you get a voucher for each day of your stay at Proof, which is the restaurant and lounge on the main floor of this hotel, for a free breakfast at the buffet. You also get coffee, tea, or juice included. Nice! I asked about parking. Self-parking is $12 a day, including tax. Valet parking is $20. I recommend opting for the former. Don't be lazy and save your $8. I also recommend parking indoors when it's hot outside. You can also park outside. I had no problems at all with access, even with the construction happening outside. I also asked about fireworks for Canada Day. He was kind to direct me to a sign over to the left. The University of Waterloo had a Canada Day event all day, ending the day off with fireworks. Nice! Although I enjoy watching fireworks, it was humid and hot and I had a perfectly good view of the fireworks from my hotel room. I enjoyed the display. This hotel is super quiet. I got a decent night's sleep every night. Sure, the mini fridge in the room took getting used to the subtle noise that it made, but the bed was comfortable and we didn't have any loud neighbours. It was perfect! The bathroom felt roomy. The shower made me relax every night. The toiletries felt luxurious and were of higher quality with argan oil. Housekeeping did a decent job. There was an occasional slip-up here and there (garbage wasn't throw out in the living room area on my second-last night, and the liquid bottle of shower gel wasn't replaced one day). However, it wasn't a huge deal to me. We both are not exactly slobs. I was pleasantly surprised one morning when I took the do-not-disturb sign off the doorknob without thinking and went downstairs for breakfast. We came back up 45 minutes later and the room was made. Wow! There was one day in which our room wasn't made until 2 pm. We had come back for a short time to freshen up and head out again. We both ended up going to the comfortable lobby, chatting while we sat there for fifteen minutes, and figuring out that the fireplace was fake, but looked cozy. I had asked housekeeping before we hit the lobby how long we should stay away for. She said ten minutes. They worked diligently. The best part of housekeeping was on the seventh day. We returned to the room to find a cute dog towel animal sitting next to my electric toothbrush on the bathroom counter. He had a bow tie on and was adorable. I loved that added touch. He matched my Snoopy t-shirt that I wore a couple of times during my stay. I loved the leather couch in the room. We spent many moments sitting there to watch TV, snack, cuddle, or just take a quick nap. It felt like home. The wifi was great. We were on the eighth floor. With elite access, you get the faster wifi for free. I never had any issues looking up stuff or streaming. The TV was large. It must have been at least 55" and was crisp. We never had any outages. I loved how friendly everyone was at this hotel. I visited the front desk a couple of times. The first time was redeeming my breakfast voucher for 750 points. I couldn't use it that day because I was fasting for bloodwork. The cheerful gentleman asked how I was enjoying my stay. I loved it here. He would often wave to me each morning that he was there as I headed out to be a tourist. The other time I stopped by occurred when I lost both my room cards while being a tourist in Niagara Falls. The woman at the front desk was helpful to get me replacement cards. You'll need to present ID. I liked that security check. I didn't have to say my name, in case others were listening in. She also told me that business guests mainly stay at this hotel, so the noise level is kept down to a minimum. There is a piano in the lobby. You can play it during specific hours. Naturally, you don't want to be playing at 2 am. You can also get snacks in the little tuck shop next to the front desk. I would recommend bringing your own. We loved our stay here. I have personally found my hotel of choice in the Waterloo area. (262)

Wow I don't go to fancy hotels very often so this hotel was amazing. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant. The gym was small but maintained well and clean. There were also plenty of wipes, towels, and water. My favorite part was the hotel restaurant. It is definitely pricey, but the food is top quality. I ordered the Chicken Tinga Bowl, which looked smaller but was very filling (be aware it is full of quinoa, not rice). I also ordered the 3 app + bottle of wine for $50 deal and shared with my teammate. The duck wings were sensational. Cooked perfectly and so delicious with the blue cheese. They even gave us an extra wing so we could share evenly (3 and 3). The fried chicken bao was solid and the grilled calamari was simple and a nice balance from the stronger flavors of the former two. Overall a pretty good deal and decent volume so definitely shareable. Be aware that you probably need to make a reservation for the restaurant during busy hours - especially if you have a group. The parking garage is a little bit tight, but not much you can really do about it. Just be aware if you're bringing a much bigger car. There is also outdoor space that is a little more open.

Quite surprised by the quality of this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were clean and the food in the restaurant was great too. We booked the private room in the really beautifully done dining bar/restaurant/lounge for a party of 22 and they did a really great job of providing the brunch. Not the cheapest but definitely worth it. If I need to stay in town again. This is the place I want to stay.

Small clean pool with hot tub & many clean towels available. Perfect for a morning swim after a night of partying in Waterloo :)

Despite a misunderstanding while making reservations and being provided with incomplete information on the amount of safety deposit needed, our stay was amazing. We got a deluxe king room on the 9th floor with a pretty view, and everything was perfect. The bathroom was spacious and clean, provided with so many towels and a bath robe. The room itself had a huge clean bed, many pillows, and a full TV set with a desk and a charming electricity station for all appliances and electronics. We also got two chairs and a small table by the window. All in all it was a great room for about $150 + tax & refundable security deposit. Will definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a night or two in Waterloo while being close to everything (there's Phil's bar and a Cora's nearby). Checkout time is at 11 AM, so be sure to wake up early despite any hangovers! Oh and the pool was so clean and nice!! Take advantage of that!

The facility is very clean and gives off a new and fresh vibe. The staff were very courteous. The pool is nice and the gym isn't bad for a hotel gym. They even have some free weights. I would like it more if they had a chin up bar, but for the average gym goer it's sufficient. The parking is easy and the bar is good too. Overall, a very good Delta! There's also free wifi without a password, USB chargers, and very clean bathrooms. Ventilation is good and the carpets are clean.

The staff were friendly throughout, but a special shout-out to the person working during breakfast; they really made the morning feel welcoming. Breakfast was included in the price, and the best part? It's not a buffet -- you actually order from a menu, which was a nice touch. Parking was also included, which is always a bonus. The checkout was at a noon (this is by default) The location is convenient too, just a few minutes' walk from the farmers market. Would definitely recommend! cost for a sunday night stay was $168.77 with all the taxes.

A free dedicated shuttle was promised all weekend to and from the festival from the property. I saw the shuttle three times in three days. I addressed this at check in and also with the GM at check out. We had to drive every single day because the shuttle times were not even remotely consistent. If it's every hour - great. Every half hour - great. But give guests a time to be there and stick to it. I paid more than double the hotels Nextdoor to stay at this Marriott even though I have top tier status at two hotel chains on the same street. I was hoping the shuttle would be a perk and perhaps they would offer guests staying under the festival block something that related to the festival (a welcome gift, a sticker... ANYTHING). Disappointed to say the least.

Phoned hotel to see…read moreif room had been cleaned and early check in was possible to which front desk confirmed both. Arrived. Front desk girl, Macklyn, was polite and friendly and gave us our key cards to room. Upon entering room, noticed that room had definitely not been cleaned. A magnet was still affixed to the door on the outside alerting of a pet in the room (and we had NO pet with us). The tile floor in the kitchen had not been swept. The dishwasher was loaded with dishes. There was soap scum and hair in the tub and only one towel for two people for a 3-day stay. Beds looked hurriedly made. Frantically drove to nearby Dollarama to pick up basic cleaning supplies (on Christmas Eve) to clean room only to discover the sole light that was over the tub/shower was leaking water. Informed front desk and they asked me if I wanted to change rooms. (Were pleasant and accommodating but seemed truly unfazed by the situation). Changed rooms and newest room, while slightly better (in terms of having been cleaned), detected a faint pet odor in bedroom. Again, dishes had been left in the dishwasher. Retrieved a couple of bowls from cupboard to find food caked on them. BREAKFAST: continental. Not huge selection, mostly cold options such as yogurt, muffins, fruit. Sufficient space to accommodate seating and tables were clean. Was surprised to find out that there was no 24 hr coffee made available to guests in lobby/restaurant area - just water with lemon. Also, Manager's reception is usually offered each Wednesday (and Christmas was on Wednesday), but they did not offer that. Instead, Front desk told me to call the following day to inquire if something was "going to take place." I guess they were unsure themselves? Called Christmas Day at 3pm to see if anything being offered in lobby/restaurant area. No answer at front desk. Phone rang at least a dozen times. Made numerous calls in the span of 15 minutes and no one picked up at front desk. Went down at 5pm (as that is when the Manager's reception would normally be, from 5-6:30pm) to find out that there had been a few trays of cookies and squares and hot chocolate. By then, only a few squares and cookies remained. The hotel could have informed their guests by a note on their door, or a courtesy call to inform when they were planning on putting out something. Should not have been the guests responsibility to call down to see when or if something was taking place. Disappointing, to say the least! CHECKING OUT: Upon leaving, I called down to front desk to see if housekeeping or busperson (do they still have those?) could bring up a luggage carousel and no one was available to do that. Up to the guest to be responsible for that. OVERALL IMPRESSION: will not be returning to this hotel again. Advice: fire housekeeping staff or at the very least, retrain staff and follow up by checking rooms to ensure highest cleaning standards are being met. (I also note that when I had to go down to return my old room key, another guest was complaining of their room not being clean, mentioning that their dishwasher was stacked with dishes, not having been unloaded). I was compensated with two bottles of complimentary water for our troubles in having to switch rooms. No monetary offer to reduce the amount on my total bill, or an offer to stay a free night. Just an overall frustrating experience.

As many of you know, I travel quite a bit for work. I am in a hotel around once or twice a week. I am the people that they should want as I decide when and where to book. It's easy on the app and I get a decent price. Some of the time, I get to a hotel and they see I "APP-BOOKED" - you heard it hear first as I'm going to coin this as it's not even on Google - and I get a whole less level of service. Anyway, I app-booked and before the frontdesk realized it, he did ask me if I wanted to be closer to the front or the back of the hotel. I told him front. After not finding my booking, he asked me how I booked. He then told me to call them in the future and they would match the rate. Well thanks but that doesn't get me my 10% reward and special online services. Nonetheless, he hands me my key and I ended up trekking all the way to the BACK of the complex. Let me tell you, the place needs work and it's so outdated, it shows. By the time I got into the room, it was very pretty bad. The room looked unkept and a layer of dust had formed on the furniture. The place was as welcoming as an episode of Bates Motel. I ended up tossing the bed to look for bugs. Been bitten once, forever shy. I heard rushing air pass through the windows and I went to see what it was. The window frame was loose and even the screen was bent out of whack. I pushed the window closed and got a handful of cobwebs. Where there are cobwebs, there are spiders. A big freaking spider was looking at me like I was fresh meat. There was a dead wasp on the window sill and mold! I packed up and off to the frontdesk I went. I had the APP company on speed dial and ready to check out. I told the guy that this was less than acceptable and I asked if he would like to see all the photos I took - he was curt and told me he "believed me." WTF...you believe me? That means you know that room you gave me was Bates-worthy! In the end, he offered me the renovated suite. Which turned out to be better - but I had to downsize to a smaller room. The hotel parking lot was pretty empty so why the heck would you put me in the un-renovated room in the first place. App-booked peeps are still customers. I'm a frequent customer in the area and this would not be the place for me and it won't be for my associated either. It is never a good idea to mistreat anyone, especially frequent App-Bookers! Check in and check out were quick. No luxuries at this place either though, if that's what you're looking for. The free coffee was pretty much undrinkable (as was the water lol). Service wasn't the best - no friendly reception or welcome notes here, although the housekeeping staff was sweet. Wifi could get veeeerrryyyy slow. Also as a side note, the thermostat was pretty loud, which was alright with me but might bother other people.

This hotel is by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed at! We were participating in a tournament…read morefor the weekend. They were calling for rain all weekend and the tournament potentially was going to be postponed so we called on Thursday morning (we were checking in Friday night) to see if there was any way to change our dates if the tournament was moved and they immediately told us no. They said they required 72 hours notice so we would be charged full price for the weekend and we would have to make a new reservation for the new dates. We then got to the hotel to find out our game was pushed to the Saturday. It was a terrible weekend with lots of rain. Our games continued to be pushed back until later on Sunday. We called the front desk to see if we could get a late check out and they immediately told us no. This was frustrating! They then called us back and said we could check out at 11:30... they gave us a half hour more. This was almost insulting! We stay at a lot of hotels and these guys were not interested in helping or being a little accommodating at all! Most hotels are pretty decent about offering a later check out especially the Hampton Inn in the United States and the holiday inns in Canada. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no manager was in so I asked to speak to a supervisor. Sai, the supervisor took over 10 minutes to come to the phone. She said she was dealing with another issue at another hotel (not surprising). She did not apologize for the wait. She was rude and would not offer any other options for us except a later check out at 11:30. She told me the housekeepers told her they couldn't clean rooms any later. Not sure if the housekeepers said this or if she was just passing the buck. Either way I figured since she was the supervisor she would have more of a say than the housekeepers but this was not the case. She continued to be rude and not help in anyway. She talked over me and basically said too bad. The hotel is just okay. The rooms are tired and not worth the $200/night we all paid. The breakfast was cold and had no selection. One family went to the pool at 8:50 with their little ones and they refused to open the doors until 9:00. The front desk staff at check in looked miserable. Not once did we get a smile. We went down to ask for an extra towel and the front desk disappeared for 10 minutes, came back and said they didn't have any! The service is absolutely terrible! Overall, this was a horrible experience and I definitely do not recommend staying at this hotel. There are tons of other hotels in this area that we have stayed at that are far better!!
