I wish I read the reviews before going here as it seems they have a reputation for robbing people blind. I went in a few days ago and ordered 5 gallons of Benjamin Moore paint. A day or two later I had to go back for an additional 5 gallons - no big deal right? I go up to the front and order 5 gallons of the Regal grade paint in the color that I wanted. Guy says ok and walks away. I'm taking care of stuff on my phone and another guy comes and takes my payment. Before I know it they are rolling out my mixed paint.... in the WRONG finish. I hesitate and say that I needed it in Matte as I did before. They never asked me the finish. The guy said he remembered what I got the day before and that I was wrong so I call my handyman and have him confirm that what we had was matte, and it was. THEN the guy changes his story and said they did ask me and I asked for eggshell - which is laughable because even in a distracted state I would NEVERRRRRRR say eggshell. At this point he's arguing and gaslighting me so I take a moment and think, ok, let's dial this back and ask if there is something we can work out. I understand this is a business and regardless of who is at fault (him) maybe we could work something out. But he doubles down and his voice is raised and shaking and saying that I asked for eggshell. At this point I know he is lying because, to reiterate: A) they never asked B) I would NEVER get eggshell for this project and C) he is trembling with rage and honestly - that tells me all I need to know. So is this a scam they run to get people to pay for stuff? What else could it be? I left the paint there and went to another store and guess what? They asked what finish I wanted. I told them what happened and even they said woah... someone there fucked up. I want to make it clear that I left because I was robbed and felt unsafe from the lunatic lying through is ever loving teeth. That's over $300 down the drain because someone failed to do their job correctly and then had the audacity to try to pin it on me. Don't spend your money there because you will regret it. read more

I have been a customer of Crown Paint for 30 years. During the last 6 years, I have been buying paint & stain for projects on a regular basis. Previously, the staff had been helpful - That all changed on my most recent visit. I had purchased a quart of black, custom color match paint. When I picked it up, there was no color dot indicator on the lid, but I didn't think much of it. However, when I recently opened it to start a new project, I discovered that instead of giving me the black paint I had purchased, I had received a quart of white paint. I brought it back to the store with my original color sample asking to have it remixed. I was met by not only annoyance but also accusations. The same employee, who had previously feigned a polite demeanor, was now accusing me of putting other paint in their container? This was a brand new container, & I had not tampered with the paint. His response was so bizarre and unwarranted. I understand that people make mistakes, but to be unwilling to accept any responsibility and to make such wild accusations is completely unacceptable. I insisted that they had clearly given me someone else's paint, to which he replied, "Go Fuck Yourself." You can tell a lot about a person by how they behave when there is a problem. I suspect that I'm not alone in complaining about receiving the wrong paint. If you are a woman, be warned as this "family owned" store seems to operate under the impression they can talk and treat you with complete and utter disregard. read more

My family moved into a house with a lot of white walls, and I'm a person who loves color. Paint is the easy solution. I'd checked out one hugely indifferent paint store (Farrow & Ball), and although I bought some samples there, could not imagine buying paint given their attitude. So after I figured out which colors I preferred, I headed to Crown Paint, as I've learned from experience that quality of paint is more important than the skill of the painter (having painted a lot of rooms myself), and Benjamin Moore is the best. Everyone who works at Crown is so helpful and friendly. They advised on finishes for each room and matched my painted samples perfectly. Their paints transformed five of my rooms from cold & uninviting to warm and cozy. I feel fortunate to have found a first-rate paint store only a few miles from our house. read more

Today feels like Christmas. The gift I'm giving myself is to no longer deal with the fragile, egomaniacal, unhelpful, passive aggressive, overtly hostile unprofessional folks at this use-to-be specialty paint store. I used to live closer to Vista Paint where they kept a record of your purchases making it very easy to order more. It was a real paint store with a color wheel. The folks behind the counter knew about color values. They were the house of yes while Crown is tge house of no. Was the last straw when I was given the wrong paint for my bathroom? Different from what I specified and not as durable? No. How about when I got down to the halfway mark on that can of paint and ran into a completely unmixed layer of white? Was it when (bc of the inconsistent colorations and paint type that I had to repaint three entire rooms? Was it when I wrote in to the owner to inform her that not one but several paints I ordered were not mixed well at all and the mistakes had cost me time and money and she failed to respond entirely? Was it when I called in an order and it sounded like a pack laughing hyena's were tearing up a henhouse and they simply ignored my order completely? No. Was it when I was repainting white trim and the color didn't match and I discovered I was painting with "Super White"...a color I had never ever ordered??? They are so arrogant, they took it upon themselves to interpret and change the color I ordered which was a sherwin Williams color they had made before! So anger inducing. So heartbreaking when I think of the labor involved in all of my projects out of my own pocket as a TENANT not an owner. So unfair. Was it when I expressly went into the store wanting paint and primer in one and specifically wanting to avoid buying a gallon and a gallon was made by mistake and I was treated as if I had been misleading or confusing in some way (even though he had written it down!!!)? No. After 15 years of loyalty, countless referrals and thousands of dollars spent, I decided last week after I asked a question about the color value of Balboa Mist and wanting to find a more concentrated color with the exact properties that I was met with passive aggression and a "I told you no already"- type of attitude. I disagreed because that was not a question I had ever asked before. Before I had simply asked if they could darken Balboa Mist. Of course THAT answer was "No". Every answer is "No.". Even a color called Benjamin Moore "Cool Blue" was "No." until I proved that it's a Benjamin Moore Color! As I was informing the worker that no I had not ever asked that question, he threw a pamphlet down, said something snarky and stormed off like a baby! That's when I decided that today I would order every quart can of each of the paints I had been using this month and then I would have them on hand and never have to Gi into the house of "no" to be treated so badly. My phone call began like this: "I would like to order some paint please. Are you ready to write this down? Him: "Yes." Me: "Ok. What is the name of the brand of paint which begins with an "r"? Him:"Aura". Me: "No. An "R". Him: "Regal"? Me: Does it begin with "R"? Yes. Regal Select. Him: Let me tell you've names of all of our paint brands (he begins recital). Me: No. Don't tell me the names of all of your paint. Him: "CLICK!" Hostile dude (always in black tights and sneakers) hung up on me. It went to voicemail each time I tried calling back. I was already finished but now they get the crap review they EARNED. When I was finished repainting the three rooms because of their mistake and their unwillingness to actually mix their recipes, I was fuming. I STILL hung in there. Everyone can have an off year especially during Covid. There is zero excuse fir the way I have been treated. Can get Benjamin Moore elsewhere. read more

These guys are great!! I came in with a paint chip sample from my bedroom door and they matched it so perfectly!! They gave me the correct sheen level and didn't try to sell me more paint than I needed. I really appreciate them for helping me out. I only painted one coat on the affected areas, not even the whole door, and you can hardly see any difference. read more

I had some stained wood that I need to color match. I went to four different paint stores, including Ace Hardware & Home Depot and no one was interested in helping me. Went to Crown Paint and Raymond had me leave the piece of wood with him and he took the time to match the color. I would highly recommed Crown Paint. They have a small parking lot in the back, off the alley, and there's metered parking in front and on the side streets. read more

These people put me in a bind. I originally went to Cox Paints in Santa Monica for my first gallon. I was running a little shy so I ran to my neighborhood paint store for an extra quart. They did not mix my paint properly at all. I've been buying paint for years and I've never seen such a terrible color mixing job. See for yourself. I had went into Crown w/measurements of a room that I wanted to paint and asked them how much I needed. The guy sold me 2 gallons (it was environmentally friendly no VOC paint costing over $40 per gallon). After I finished painting 2 coats, I realized that I had not even gotten through the 1st gallon, so I called to ask if I could bring back the other one. After discussing my situation on the phone, we realized that although I had told the employee that there were 2 small windows and 3 doors in the room, neither of us had thought to subtract those measurements. They agreed to take the gallon back and I was highly appreciative. Great customer service, but a warning that you should come in w/exact measurements in order to get a better estimate of how much paint you'll need. read more

Terrible experience. I told them I was painting old wood windows and wanted a caulk that would not shrink. They sold me a caulk that is not paintable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable!! So now I have filled all the cracks with this caulk and have to dig it out. The windows frames are 90 years old and will take a huge amount of work to make them look good after I dig the caulk out. Crown takes no responsibility of course. Never use this store...... read more
