We were told no -- inside is table service only, and takeout means you take it and eat elsewhere. Fine, except there was nowhere to sit outside at the festival. When we asked about using one of their own outdoor tables (they had roughly 30, and it was 11:15am, 45 minutes before the festival even started, so the tables were empty), we were told those were reserved for table-service customers only. This was after we'd already spent $32 in their restaurant. Regina's has been around for 100 years, but somewhere along the way they stopped caring about basic hospitality. Paying customers with nowhere to eat their food shouldn't be treated as an inconvenience. We won't be back.

My issue was not the policy, but how it was handled. We walked in carrying a Mike's Pastry box in plain sight, placed it on the table, and ordered two amaros and a Coke. The waiter greeted us, saw the box, and never mentioned the policy. We then opened it and began sharing a cannoli with our 3 year old son while staff could clearly see us. A few minutes later, a large group walked in. I heard the person who appeared to be the manager or owner comment to the staff that we were "three people for two tables and only two amaros." Shortly afterward, our waiter was instructed to tell us we could not eat the cannoli. Had someone simply told us when we arrived that outside food was not allowed, we would have gladly put it away or gone somewhere else. Instead, nothing was said until after we had ordered and our son had already started eating. The staff later explained that this happens frequently because Mike's is directly across the street. If that is the case, communicating the policy when customers arrive carrying outside food seems like a simple solution. The policy is completely reasonable. The communication and customer service were disappointing.

The restaurant was packed and loud (definitely recommend having reservations) and tables were VERY close together, making it tricky to get in and out of the seating, even for my husband and I who are not large people. For the food - mine was outstanding! I tried a homemade pasta with a blush sauce and it was fantastic. The pasta was fresh with the perfect consistency, and the sauce was so rich and well flavored. My husband, who is gluten intolerant, had gluten free pasta with broccolini and sausage. He said his meal was just ok. The gluten free pasta looked to be the same brand we buy at home, and the flavor of the sauce was average. Overall, it was a fun night out, but I think we would probably opt to try a different North End restaurant next time.
