I would drink a malt shake from this place every day if it didn't put me on a reality tv show trying to lose 300 pounds. This was probably one of the tastiest, richest, creamiest shakes I've ever had. We got the chocolate one, which was 24 ounces of pure amazingness. We also got a scoop of the chocolate chip ice cream, which was excellent. I was somewhat skeptical of Crown Candy because it was on Man vs. Food and sometimes those places Adam Richman or Guy Fieri go to are overrated (cough cough Pappy's), but this place was legit. I will definitely stop here next time I'm back in STL. Lastly, I didn't have the BLT, but it looks like the greatest sandwich ever made. I've never seen so much bacon on one sandwich. I strongly recommend getting this if you're there for food that's not ice cream or malt shakes. read more

If I lived in St. Louis, this is probably where I would take people from out of town. Essentially, Crown Candy is an old school candy/ice cream parlor. While they serve food (famous for their giant BLT) I'd skip all that noise and just get a shake. Good, real shakes, made with a majority of hard scooped ice cream and a little milk, hand spun to thick perfection are a rare commodity. One thing to note - often times places will use vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup in place of chocolate ice cream if you order a chocolate shake. It's easier to spin than chocolate ice cream. When I visited CCK, they told me they didn't have chocolate ice cream to make a shake with. I asked specifically because I don't enjoy chocolate syrup but that was the option they gave me for a chocolate shake. They lied to me. After the fact, I saw that episode of Man vs. Food and they certainly served him a chocolate shake. Bastards. Still the Vanilla shake was one of the best in recent memory and I finished it off even after devouring much BBQ. read more

Our last Man vs. Food stop on our road trip was Crown Candy Kitchen. I don't know anything about the city of St. Louis, but CCK seemed to be located in a slightly sketch neighborhood? If not sketch, then just sort of weird, without a lot of other businesses around. Easy to find metered street parking. It wasn't crowded, since we went at sort of a weird time of day (like 3 or 4 pm). There was a line for takeout, but we managed to get a seat immediately. Very cool, old-school vibe. You can easily picture people here in poodle skirts in the '50s, sharing a malt. Cool white booths - not very comfortable though! The menu reflects the classic decor with a lot of classic offerings - basic sandwiches and a wide variety of sundaes, shakes, and malts. Despite the accolades for the BLT (which seem to be mainly based on the fact that you get a shiz-ton of bacon), I got the turkey bacon melt and my boyfriend got the reuben. Both were fine, heavy and piled high with meat. I think they all came with potato chips. There was nothing special about the sandwiches, and the deli meat was pretty salty. I'm really not a gigantic hunk o' meat on bread type of person, but if that's your bag, welcome to heaven. The chocolate banana malted, however, was pretty darn delicious. They bring it out in a shaker and you can pour it into old-fahioned glasses. It was plenty for the two of us, there's no need to get your own! Super cool, vintage vibe, and I think the desserts are really the star. I wouldn't get a sandwich here again - I don't see the point. But I would make this a regular summer date night spot if I lived in St Louis. What's cuter than sharing a delicious malt or sundae with your favorite boy? read more

I was a little unsure when we pulled up and saw the line for table service stretching out the door and around the corner. We stood in line patiently for about 20 minutes before a very amiable gentleman came out to inform us that from the door (which we had not yet reached), the wait was 30 minutes, so everyone outside was looking at 45 minutes +. No one moved. This reassured me that the food was well worth the wait. Once one gets inside, the wait is indeed close to a half-hour, but the time flies while one peruses the glorious array of confectionaries. Chocolate bunnies abound, but who would think to make a chocolate squirrel? We speculated on the genesis story of the Easter monkey as well. The time was also spent deciding what we would eat as the menus are prominently displayed on the walls. Once we were seated, The real decision making began. We would get a malt, but which flavor? Following a rather complicated elimination process, we settled on butterscotch and it was glorious. My dining companion ordered the BLT- we figured that if it was good enough to be advertised on the waitstaff's shirts, it probably was a must-try - and I ordered the roast beef and cheddar. Both were fantastic, not to mention the giant portions. The wait staff was amiable and even knowing that there was a line of people waiting to come in and eat, there was zero sense of being rushed. The only issue (a non issue, really) experienced was we were unable to reconcile the vast array of Coca-Cola themed decor with the fact CCK only serves Pepsi products. I say it is a non-issue because if you are there to have a Diet Pepsi or a Sierra Mist, you're clearly missing the point. I'd return in a minute and stand in line for another hour! read more

There are a handful of places in town that I absolutely love taking visiting relatives to... and this is right at the top of the list. It's always funny to watch their faces, as I have them drive through a run-down part of "The Most Dangerous City in America" to get a few milkshakes and sundaes... you can see the wheels turning in their heads... "He wants me to park my car HERE? I mean, I enjoy ice-cream like the next guy, but seriously..." Then you walk through the door, and the transformation is instant... It's suddenly the coolest place they've ever seen... For little kids, it's like a page out of their history books (but way cooler, because they have ice-cream and candy all over the place)... and for older relatives, it's like watching them step back into their fondest childhood memories of trips to the soda fountain. They hardly notice the line, and they barely notice the cramped booths... they're too busy soaking it all in while you're waiting to get seated. As far as meals go, they don't use the greatest ingredients in the world... but they certainly put together something decent for the price... and everything just seems to taste better in that environment anyway. It's comfort-food. The kind of sammich your mom made you as a kid (but grown-up sized), with some potato-chips and a pickle. The ice cream is the real reason to go there. I always get kind of mad at myself for ordering real food (good as it is)... because I want a shake AND a sundae, and I'd have trouble finishing either at that point. The servings are HUGE. I mean, I'm a big dude (and I can throw-down on some frozen deliciousness with the best of them)... but seriously... they bring-out your shake in a glass... then they give you a metal mixer next to it filled to the brim with MORE milkshake... it's like having three regular milkshakes at once. The other frozen treats are giant too; put in these heavy glass bowls, the average sundae probably weighs 8 pounds. It's ridiculous... and awesome. Then you go up to pay, and you have this huge case full of homemade chocolate and candy treats... malted milk-balls... old-school chewing-gum (like Clove, Blackjack, and Beeman's)... red shoe-laces... swedish fish... It's hard to walk-out of there without grabbing a few more bags of treats for everybody (especially around Easter, or Valentine's Day). Everybody I've ever brought there makes it a point to go back, the next time they're in town. I don't think any of them have ever asked to go to the Arch twice. That probably means something. (originally reviewed 2/12/10 on another profile that I'm deleting... copied from there... I'm a much better speller now) read more

The fact that this place is the seed to the future development that is Crown Village makes this establishment amazing in and of itself. http://www.crownvillagestl.com/ Experiencing the ridiculously huge BLT, awesome candy, and solid no-too-sweet shakes and malts should make anyone realize just how this gem of an operation has persevered through the times. This is a place that St. Louis could rally behind. Let's hope that the organizations behind Crown Village will have the same stamina that Crown Candy Kitchen has to get through these trying times and make this area shine again. read more

Top ten places to visit in St Louis. I think top five places for food experiences. I went on a Tuesday for lunch, and was forewarned by my group that there is often a long wait any day of the week during lunch. Luckily for us, a table had just opened up as we walked in and we sat down instantly. The service was a little slow, especially refilling drinks and the like, but the food more than makes up for it. The sandwiches are huge, served with chips and a pickle. They are seriously loaded up with slices of meat, and served on thick toast, most on "texas toast" (read white bread with tons of butter), but you can ask for wheat toast as well. Our table ordered a good range of sandwiches, a BLT, roast beef, chicken salad and I got the ham and cheese. No one was disappointed. But next time I might be switching to the BLT because it was loaded down with bacon and looked absolutely amazing. There was a lot of joking and talk about the Man v. Food challenge with the milkshakes, and how one is really three, so five is really fifteen or something. I split one with one of the guys, no one else ordered one. But I am pretty sure I could have put one down on my own. Maybe not five... but I will see if I can't train for it. No candy this trip. I can pretty much buy candy anywhere, and I think in general CC is probably better known for the food/ice cream than the candy. I might be wrong, but most people I know rave about the food. Aside from being in the not best part of town Crown Candy has a solid business model that is only going to keep it going: good food, legendary milkshakes, and oh yeah, some candy. If you have a bucket list of sandwich or milkshake places, add this one on. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen, or Crown Candy as my friends and I call it is a most wonderful place. Anyone who has been there would know that wonderful is a word that could sum up the place, but it wouldn't do as great of a job as just showing someone the place, and making sure they order some ice cream and one of their homemade chocolate peanut butter cups. Besides awesome ice cream and cream, Crown Candy has some great sandwiches too. I really enjoy their Reuben sandwich. They really pile on the corned beef and cheese and add just enough dressing to bring out that extra bit of flavor. Crown Candy is the kind of place I like to go to on one of those warm lazy days when you're just hanging around with friends, looking to get out to go someplace, anyplace where you can just enjoying each other's being. The service is always great and everyone there is friendly. Going to Crown Candy is just a very enjoyable experience that creates a pleasant highlight of the day. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen is a century old candy shop in the heart of St.Louis and they make some of the best milkshakes. We ordered the malted chocolate marshmallow shake and the chocolate banana shake. The consistency was perfect, not too thick and not too milky. If I had more time, I would have picked up some of their chocolates that look like a work of art. read more

My dad took me to this great little place. Apparently it's known for its heart stopper BLT, which I wanted but seemed like too much for me. I got a chicken salad sandwich and it was perfect, served with chips and a pickle. It's all themed out like a 60s milkshake place and it's part candy shop, so we took home some bonbons for my mom. read more

Awesome food! We went on a Monday at 5pm. Had to wait 5-10 minutes for a booth for the 4 of us. There were a handful of 2 seat booths available but we didnt want those. Theres approximately 10 2 seater booths and 15 4 seater booths. My 4 and 6 yo shared a grilled cheese. I had the Turkey, bacon melt and my husband the BLT and a malt. Everyone ate everything. Delicious! read more

I probably made a major boo-boo last night by not treating myself to one of their famous malts, BUT I did have a taste of the BLT which was just about one of the best BLT's I've ever had! Unfortunately for me though, that wasn't my dinner, it was my sister's... I ended up getting the Roast Beef Cheddar melt which I wish the Roast Beef was less tough and cut a little thinner because it was difficult biting into the sandwich without pulling the whole hunk of meat out of the bread. I eventually had to ask for a knife and fork to cut it into pieces. Other than that, the atmosphere was really lovely, completely throwback and old school and the service was good. And, true to the namesake, they had a large candy selection up front! I personally was eyeing the $14 huge lollipop they had. So, based on terms of the sandwich I had, I give it three stars but next time I come to St. Louis I'll have to give it some justice and get a malt next time :) read more

Crossing the doorstep is a trip back to 1949. The cute booths and tables. Great food. Wonderful Chocolate business that more people need to know about for the holidays. Love their malts. It's a St. Louis landmark read more

A blast from the past! This is one of the oldest soda-fountain and candy shops still running in St. Louis. They make their own chocolate and their malts and shakes are the best! In addition, they serve dinner and lunch. One of my favorites is their BLT - almost a 1" pile of artery clogging bacon! Being old, the area around the establishment has evolved and is not safe. Despite this, the place is always busy with locals and tourists experiencing a true piece of Americana. read more

I am really on the border at a 4.5. The case for: This place is awesome. It really probably hasn't changed appreciably in 50 years. They make their own Ice Cream and excellent Hot Fudge (sort of sticky and sugary, a nice and divergent take). The wait-staff was really friendly and the banana chocolate malted that Randy S. consumed was very, very good and probably could have fed a small Central American country for a week. It's a really unique place in America. One of the great old-time spots that still exists and hasn't updated and ruined itself. It also has a tremendous assortment of candies and all that to go if you want. The case against: While the shake was really good, the ice cream was pretty middle of the road and whipped. I am not a fan of whipped, airy, ice cream. The hot fudge sundae was good, but it was fake whipped cream and in a place that goes to the trouble to make it's own whipped cream, there could have been some extra effort here. My pastrami sandwich for lunch was a 3 (but I'm not really using that too heavily). All in all it probably deserves a 5 because it's a really unique and interesting place. It also gets kudos for standing unharmed in a Compton-esque area of the Lou. Okay, I'm going with 5. Just go there, get a shake and don't worry so much. read more

I have to admit that I was underwhelmed by my visit. The place has to be doing something right to be in business for 98 years, but I am not really quite sure what it is. I suspect that it is more of what they do that others don't do. Not too many places have 30 ounce milkshakes/malts (or milkshakes/malts in general) and sell candy. In addition, while I can appreciate the old school charm, I can't believe that at some point in history, the owners never expanded to allow more seating. But that is a minor detail. It is also in a bit of a sketchy part of town, especially after dark, but there are signs that there is development happening in the neighborhood and perhaps in a few years, the neighborhood will be much improved. The great thing about the milkshake was the size. $4.50 for a 30 ounce milkshake is a pretty good value. I had a cherry milkshake, but it was not very flavorful. I don't quite know why, but perhaps they could have done a better job of mixing/chopping the cherries (I think they are the jarred maraschino cherries sold in stores) that were at the bottom of my shake, to better infuse the flavor. The chili? Nothing great. Not a lot of flavor, similar to Skyline Chili that you find in Cincinnati. I have had far superior chili, but I have also had worse. In addition, there was absolutely nothing special about my tuna sandwich. It may have been better if they turned it into a melt (something for management to consider if they review these reviews). Store bought crinkle potato chips? Really? I would have expected a place like this to make their own chips. Or perhaps humor us by buying the chips frozen and frying them to order. With seating for only 30 or so people at a time, they could easily make their own chips to order. It would also boost their food and actually make it more memorable...for positive reasons. I did not get any candy because the milkshake was so filling. Plus, with a purchase requiring 1/4 pound minimum, and most chocolate costing around $20 a pound, I did not see it being worth it. Most other candy items were two and three times the price of similar items that you would find elsewhere. Is it worth the premium? I'll let you judge that, since I did not try any myself. Overall, if I was judging solely on milkshakes, this would probably be a three or four star review. Somewhere in recent years, management has cut corners to save on food costs because they are using cheaper substitutes than what you could have used 50 years ago. The current owners need to go back to some of the original recipes and use them because they are not using those recipes these days. An appearance on Man vs. Food certainly helped boost it's popularity. But if you are looking for a good meal, you can do better by going elsewhere and sadly, most chain restaurant food is better than what they are offering today. read more

After being told (and yelp concurring) that despite the sketchy part of town, this place was a MUST CHECK-OUT, we did. My colleague and I went for a late lunch on a rainy thursday and I obviously got the BLT. SO DUHLISHUS. The inside of this place looks like it's taken right from 1965 with tiny booths and jukeboxes at every table. The menu is on the wall and at the table. Oh, and NO SEPARATE CHECKS. (we noted that written several places. Message received) I recommend asking for it with mayo instead of the menu-slated miracle whip (gross). I also got swiss cheese on it...and a Crown Sundae to-go. Service was a bit slow for not being crowded but the food lived up to the hype. The sandwich was piled high and i couldn't eat more than half. The sundae was good but also had to save that for later. Two folks, two sandwiches, two ice cream desserts and tip for $32. Not too shabby. read more

FYI - i have been going to this place since I was a kid and 14th street was full of shops and stuff, so I'm no newbie to north St. Louis, City. And if you are city-fied, like I am....you can hang with the neighborhood, which Crown, I'm sure, has seen it's bad time and good times in this location. So don't go saying its a bad neighborhood, ...it is what it is. Having said that, Crown is just amazing! There BLT is to DIE for and yes I can eat the entire thing. They are the only place I know where I can get black walnut ice cream! Now I do beleive that since they have been featured on the Food network channel as a place you must visit when in St. Louis, I think the crowd has grown. Be ready to stand in a long line unless you are taking out. But the staff always comes out and offer you options like two seaters, etc. They are a nice staff, just as I remembered as a kid and let me tell you, I'm mid forties....no spring chicken here, but definitely been around enough to know the neighborhood and Crown Candy. So good and as long as they have been around, I hope they are here for a long time. My bf and I took his mom here and it was good. read more

Ugh, I am writing this while experiencing a bacon hangover, which is like an unhealthier version of a regular hangover and you feel much worse. Add the fact that Crown Candy, scratch that, St. Louis seems to have an infatuation with miracle whip on everything, I can't recommend in good faith going here for purely health reasons. Nostalgia is enough of a good reason to come here. however. After being suggested by enough locals as a St. Louis institution, how could I not go? Standing outside the place, it looks like the lone holdout of a once rundown, now up and coming, neighborhood. Walk in and you feel like you've been transported to the white-washed, drug/candy/soda-pop shops of lore. Like I said, the time warp alone is reason enough to come here. The food though? The chili tasted tasteless and had a porridge-like consistency. The vanilla malted milkshake was snazzy, though not the best I ever had. (I say say snazzy cause it sounds like a 50s term to me which encapsulates the setting) And the BLT was heaping full of bacon! Though again not the best bacon (or lettuce or tomato) I've ever had. Really no better or worse than any diner. So I'm glad I went, but even if I lived here, I don't think I would be back. Maybe that has to do with the fact the over 24 hours later from my 5,000 calorie binge, I still have no appetite. read more

CCK should be a 3 star review. I really wasn't blown away with the BLT (yes, it's huge. But there wasn't anything extraordinary about the ingredients. It's just that there's a crapload of bacon. And if anything, the 1 piece of lettuce and the couple slices of tomato make this more of a "B" that a "BLT") As for the malt, it was good, but again, it didn't make me go "THIS IS THE BEST EVER." Extra star for: -being relatively close to Downtown (I think the only other ice cream option (outside of gelato) is what, Hardee's?) -5 malt challenge (I will try it one of these days. Oh yes I will) I'll come back. And I'll either be a celebrated hero or outside puking malt out my nose. (as for the neighborhood, it's fine. Yes, there are a lot of boarded up/crumbling buildings, but that's it. Plus there are some serious revitalization efforts going on, so I suspect we'll see a gentrification movement happening at some point). read more

Like walking into a 60s burger/shake/ice cream shop in an old section of St. Louis. Not for the faint of heart or people with blood sugar issues. It's also a candy shop as the namesake describes. There is so much chocolate most people with a sweet tooth will be beside themselves. Best worst decision ever will be getting the Heart Stopping BLT. You can spend a fleeting moment thinking, "well at least it has miracle whip on there" but realize then that there is about a pound of bacon you are eating in one sitting. There is enough shake serving for 2.5 glasses. Let me reiterate the disclaimer for people with blood sugar issues. Worth the trip for anyone that wants something with an old St. Louis feel. Definitely a highlight of any trip to St. Louis. read more

I saw this on the travel channel and just had to try it while in town. The place is very small so seating is limited but worth the wait. We went around 12ish and waited for about 25 to 30 minutes in a line outside to get seated. The staff was friendly and service once seated was fast. We of course had to order the sandwich they are known for...the huge BLT! And no lie it was probably a good pound of bacon heaven on that thing. I only could finish half and gladly ate the other half later that night. We each got a malt to go. We tried one strawberry which was just pure delish. We also had a chocolate banana which you tasted the fresh bananas used. Resisted the temptation but the wonderful Easter chocolates were simply mouthwatering to look at. I would definitely recommend this place upon your travels to STL! read more

Ah the Jewel of North City. CCK is a sweet and sugary oasis out of place and out of time. As if the culture shock from tumbling between your world and the war zone of North Saint Louis wasn't stark enough, it is possible to remove yourself a second time. CCK is a world within a world within a world, Inception-style. The sensual (and potentially physical) assault that awaits you in the area surrounding CCK instantly gives way to a childish land of homemade chocolates, ice cream shakes, and great food as soon as you enter the store. CCK obviously relishes its throwback existence, but the difference between its world and ours is made all the more obvious by the violent streets outside. Maybe it's that forbidden aspect that keeps drawing eaters decade after decade. read more

Its funny because by boyfriend's great grandmother lived down the block from here. As kids they would walk down the block to Crowns Candy Kitchen before the food network notoriety took hold. He laughs at having to wait on line to get seated here since they never had to when they were kids. We decided to try Crowns out during a Cardinals game. Fortunately we only had three tables ahead of us. This place is old school. Built in wooden booths, tons of old coke memorabilia and homemade candy. I was wondering why you would pay $9.00 for a BLT, but when it came out there was a pound of bacon on the sandwich. Of course it was awesome. I did not have room for dessert. My boyfriend did have a malt that I tried and it was good although malts aren't really my thing. Next time I will probably get a sundae because they looked awesome. read more

I've lived in St. Louis my whole life and have never been to Crown Candy Kitchen. I was doing some research on restaurants I'd never been to and asked my mother if she would like to go there with me since I thought she would enjoy it. I had read that the lines were long getting in to sit down so we decided we would drive up and if it was bad we would just go somewhere else. When we got there, we got a parking spot right in front of the door and there was not much of a line and there were benches to sit on while we waited. While we were waiting I found out that there is also a walk-up counter where you can order something to go without having to wait in the line. The restaurant is very nostalgic and took me to another place and time. They still have the tabletop jukeboxes on the tables which I found pretty cool. We ordered a chocolate/banana malt and split it. It was enough for about three people. We also ordered a Reuben and split that as well. It was all very good. All of the food was very reasonable. I will be back. read more

After seeing Crown Candy Kitchen on the Travel Channel's "Man V. Food", my husband & I decided we had to check this place out on our next trip to St. Louis. We ended up going there twice during our week in town, because it was JUST that good! Talk about nostalgia. The shop has been there for nearly 100 years (opened it's doors in 1913), and it's like a time warp when you enter. Friendly & attentive staff, and of course, DELICIOUS ice cream! Both trips, I had the "Fire Chief Special", which is your choice of ice cream (I had black cherry both times), with sliced strawberries, bananas, topped with whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. SO delicious! My husband had the Hot Fudge Sundae (TONS, and I means TONS of fudge), and a chocolate malt. The malt wasn't anything special, which after reading the reviews here, I was expecting something of epic proportions. At times, expect a line, as this is a local favorite, along with a top tourist spot. We were going to eat there for lunch one afternoon, and the line was out the door, so we decided to come back the next day in the evening. It's in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood, but it looks as if they are trying to rebuild that part of the city. Metered parking during the week, free parking on the street on the weekend. And they don't do separate checks. A bit odd, but eh. MUST TRY IF IN ST. LOUIS! PS: We didn't eat any of their food there, only ice cream, but a table in front of us ordered the BLT, and holy cow, I have NEVER seen that much bacon on a sandwich in my life! read more

Nothing beats ice cream sundaes and shakes made on the spot in a beautiful soda fountain that's nearly 100 years old. Sure, the area may be a little too Skid Row, but don't let that scare you. I don't live a thing near St. Louis but I hope to come back whenever I'm in the area. P.S. If you're brave, let your inner Peter Dowdeswell attempt to gorge down five malts in half an hour. Crown Candy is one of the places to visit if you are in St. Louis. They offer more than candy so don't let the name fool you. I walked in and thought to myself "This is how an old school dinner/candy shop is supposed to look like." I ordered a chocolate milkshake. It was huge! They give you a the container they shake it up in so you can make sure to drink all of it. This can easily be shared by two people. They put ice cream and love inside...the taste was exceptional! I warn you- it is very filling. I also bought some chocolate candy to take home. Again, it was great! read more

Popped in one Sunday afternoon for lunch. There was a line, of course, but it was actually tolerable and did not extend down the street. I can't say that I would wait in that sort of line for this place despite all the hoopla. No malt challenges for me - thanks. The first order of business was acquiring a delicious malt - chocolate banana to be exact. It took me no time whatsoever to polish that off. Next order of business - lunch. The carnivorous girls order the monstrous and infamous heart stopping BLT. Jesus. That is a heart attack slipped between two pieces of bread. We opted for the egg salad sandwich. It was not too shabby - creamy and delicious texture with good flavor. It has the original architecture inside (or at least I assume), which gives it that old-time ice cream parlor/diner appearance. The venue is small with very limited seating, which does not help with the capacity constraints. Has that old school feel, which I liked. There is also a barrage of candy patrons can buy along with homemade ice cream. Not exactly sure how to comment on the staff - they seemed very busy and perhaps a bit frenzied, which limited the idle chit-chat. The food seemed to take longer than usual. It was average-above average as far as price. I can say that I am glad I was able to experience it but not sure I would ever go back. read more

``Hands down, the best milkshakes in town. There is nowhere else that can compare. Nice, large shakes served in old school stainless cups for your pouring at your ready. They are made with a touch of love and a kiss from the heavens. CCK is very old school and I doubt there has been a renovation ever at the place. Very 1950's and it shows it's character. Surprisingly, the food is very good also. BLT is the specialty with bacon strips the size of a small child's arm. Not all is great at CCK. Crown Candy Kitchen - Cute lil shop with an eatery : ) - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

If you come to STL, you MUST visit; it will definitely be a highlight of your trip! Try to save room for dessert. Especially the home-made ice cream and chocolates. The Heart-Stopping BLT is fabulously stacked with BACON, BACON and MORE BACON (and the Miracle Whip, Lettuce, and Tomato are optional); try it with cheese! Highly recommend the world-famous house-made chicken salad sandwich -- which is only available Tuesdays and Thursdays -- which is scrumptious. Enjoy any of of the delicious malts, my choice is the most delicious chocolate-banana! read more

Note to self, especially if you are in a group...you don't have to wait in line for one of the itty bitty little booths. They do to-go orders as well. Like millions of other people, we had to come down to see what all the fuss was about. If you LOVE bacon then you will LOVE this place. A pound of bacon on a BLT. Think it can't be done? Well try again. and somehow it fits in your mouth. We also tried the Rueben - pretty good, and the milkshakes - sorry but they taste like they come from McDonalds. Definitely get the BLT...not sure about anything else. read more

Came to Crown Candy for the famous blt our STL friend told us about. He said it had been on the Travel Channel as the best sandwich in America. The diner itself is old and charming, the staff friendly, and the chocolate shake delicious (three of us split one shake and still had some left over). The blt was really good...BUT each blt comes with a pound of bacon (which is why it's famous I'm sure), and let's be honest...there IS such a thing as too much bacon! We all pushed more than half of the bacon off our sandwiches to eat them because the sandwiches were too tall to even bite, and then we all had bad stomach aches for the rest of the day (probably from too much bacon). All in all it was an experience! I wouldn't say it was the best sandwich in America but it WAS good and it was a fun adventure. Certainly not something to do weekly but I would definitely say you should try it once if in STL. read more

Talk about about a blast from the past or more like Back to the Future, this place represents what diners used to be like in the 50's? Not only is the location pretty remote, but when you arrive at the location you definitely feel like you are in a different part of St. Louis, safe ionno but think of it as a South City area with less brick buildings with a pretty sweet view of the Arch facing south east. The Heart Attack BLT, isn't that what everyone comes to this place for? Probably the most bacon I have ever seen on a sandwich, decently priced and very tasty. I also got the house chili; didn't taste homemade but it was okay. I was looking to try a sundae but my date wasn't having any so I went with the house made seasonal flavor icecream which happened to be pumpkin. It was amazing, tasting like pumpkin cake but pretty yummy to top off some chili and bacon. The candy selection looked pretty sweet too, no pun intended but I did not get any. The house made oreos looked the best. If I am ever in the area I would definitely stop by again for a shake because they looked massive and super yummy. dp read more
