OK, so I have heard about it, seen television news stories about it but this was my first visit. Open since 1913 this St. Louis icon has probably the most serious BLT sandwich I've come across (and this is one of my favorite sandwiches). It was a challenge to eat the second half of it! We ordered the BLT and the Turkey Club along with 2 Chocolate Malts - not a single complaint. Our server "guessed" there was a pound of bacon on the sandwich and that the restaurant cooks around 250 pounds of bacon a day. This isn't the place I'll frequent often, but definitely worth a visit. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Crown Candy Kitchen BLT - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

This place is so neat! It is pretty small, but the decor and the employees make you feel like you're going back in time. The food is delicious and the ice cream creations are amazing! My party ordered multiple BLTs - so much bacon, the turkey melt, and a couple chili tamales. The sandwiches were delicious, the bacon was cooked perfectly, and the toppings were fresh. We finished with a chocolate malt, a chocolate banana malt, and the fire chief sundae, milk chocolate peanut butter cup, and some dark chocolate covered cranberries from the candy counter. The ice cream was so delicious and had fresh mix ins and toppings. It was super busy when we went so we walked in and ordered carry out and took it across the street to the picnic tables! read more

Shakes, BLT, Turkey melt it's a must have. The chips are a nice touch. But the shakes get ready for a cup of heaven.

Support this gem of North City! The news may say otherwise, but I've always felt safe in this neighborhood. Most recently, I had the BLT. May have been the best I've ever had. Generous and fresh ingredients. I also had a hot fudge sundae. Huge! I could have split it with 2 others, but managed to finish solo. Great candy selection. Good place to buy for the hard-to-buy-for. Cute and retro atmosphere. Doesn't look like they've changed a thing! read more

Always a treat. Largest BLT in the world. One of a kind landmark. Milkshake are old fashioned. Home made candy.

Kitchen closes at 730pm though it's not posted anywhere. $19 for one ice cream cone, one root beer float & one sundae

Went after an EGD and for my first bit of real food in over 24 hours, I was VERY happy with my meal. My cousin took me here for the first time and we both got turkey bacon melts. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the turkey was super juicy and flavorful. We then got ice cream as well and it was the perfect amount of sweet! Will definitely be coming back read more

Visited with my boyfriend for a lunch date, and we loved this place!! We split the BLT, and it was one of the best I've ever had. They put a crazy amount of bacon on it, and it's just delicious. We also split a Sunday with Oreo ice cream and chocolate sauce and wow.. just wow. Their ice cream is all made in house, and it is creamy and delicious! The best part about this place is the decor. It is set up like an old time diner, and has a charm that we loved. Our waitress was also amazing! Food came out super fast, she checked on us a perfect amount of times, and when we told her we were going to split the sandwich and Sunday she brought the sandwich out pre-split for us and 2 spoons with the Sunday. Can't wait to visit again! read more

Finally got a chance to eat there today. Unfortunately I left very disappointed. Yes, it was a neat experience, and we all enjoyed our food. However, I was most excited because I saw they had a butterscotch sundae on the menu. It seems carmel has replaced butterscotch these days so it's hard to find. This place is supposed to be old school right? What they called "butterscotch" was some almost clear syrup that only had a hint of butterscotch flavor to it. Sooooo disappointing! Yes I will go back and try something else and hopefully my next review will be better. read more

Short and simple... Oh hell yes!!!! Divine shakes and malts. Nostalgia up the wazoo although I'm too young for it to be my nostalgia. It reminds me of all the stories my grandparent used to tell me of their dating days sharing a malt and a courting. Very cute place place. That massive BLT is a lovely eye opening button popping share. Great candy. I truly love this gem. Eye candy, soul candy, good candy. Lets go! read more

BLT: $7 *Miracle Whip: be still, my little, barely now beating heart. I LOVE MW. *This rounds out to roughly $1/lb of bacon. For real. *Crunchy, toasty white, zero-nutrient bread. *side of potato chips and pickle *L&T for good measure Chocolate Malt: $4.75 *Easily enough for 2-3 people, made in a REAL malt-maker, brought out in the ice cold shaker, and presented with a fountain glass, straw and spoon. *Legit. Homemade Candy, too. I resisted. Vintage, in a real sense, around since 1913. Yes, I'm a tourist. Fine, get over it. IT's a huge f'in BLT and a malt, and anyone can get on board with that. It also arrived to our table within about 2 minutes flat, and the white paneled booths, Coca Cola signage from the old days (though they serve Pepsi now, which makes me sad), chocolate monkies, etc. It's a good stop. The service was sweet, too. Surefire family pleaser, on vacation or not. It's cute and has great food that won't break the bank and you can get your BLT fix for about the next 2 years. And chocolate malts. Really good ones. And, if you can chug down 5 of them (they are huge, remember) in 30 minutes. You get them all free. I don't really know what the bonus is for ANYONE there, but hey...one was good. I managed about half of one in 20 minutes. read more

Dang. It's been here since 1913, and I've never been. My husband took our children every Easter season to pick out a chocolate animal. Invariably, every year, someone came home with a pig. When you can get only one piece of chocolate, you want it to be big, and you want it to be solid (not hollow). My great friend and I came for lunch today, timing arrival to avoid crowds and lines, part and parcel of Crown Candy Kitchen. And we got a fabulous parking spot. We arrived at 10:40 a.m. They open at 10:30 a.m. We got a two-person booth right away. Water served immediately. Menus at the booth. Please note: no separate checks. Tammie was our great server. We needed a few minutes to decide on our order. While discussing and contemplating, a guy in the booth across from us (of course, he heard our conversation), lifted up his BLT to show us the bacon depth. Gads, there must be a pound of bacon on that sandwich. And he showed us the half he hadn't eaten yet. He got a grilled ham-and-cheese sandwich ($6.99), which comes with chips and a pickle; and a chocolate-banana malted ($5.19). I got a large chili ($4.99) -- with cheese and onions (+$.99) -- and a hot fudge shake ($5.19). All their shakes and malts are 24 ounces. You are delivered one of those old-fashioned glass sundae containers with a straw and a spoon. The beverage comes in the metal container used to create your confection. Their chili is no beans. I like that. The cheese and onions were massive. The chili is sooooo good. Hefty. Spicy, but not hot. Thick and rich. I ate about 1/4 of it. Comes with three packages of oyster crackers. The hot fudge shake was stellar. So rich, so wonderful, so fudgy. I drank perhaps 1/3 of it. My great friend ate half of his sandwich. It was so big! And drank half of his malted. AND, he gave me his pickle . . . which was divine!! We left with a lot of future meals. And when we walked out, there was a line of diners. We timed it well. read more

Excellent candy store/diner. Unique sandwiches and ice creams to try that taste amazing. Had the heart stopping BLT and it was great.

Wow, this was like stepping back in time. Sitting in the booth I imagine things hadn't changed much in the candy/soda shop in the last thirty years. The tamales were good, the chocolates are great, but the highlight of the trip was the heart stopping BLT. Crown should give out a cardiologist business card with this mammoth sandwich. For $10 this might be the best deal in St. Louis. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - B A C O N !!! - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

Legitimately a bonafide, can't-miss St. Louis institution. Best known for their shakes and malts, you'd be silly to make a trip out here and not get cozy with one of their fine ice cream items. My choice? The marshmallow shake, extra thick. You can request the density of your shake altered by paying a $.50 upgrade for 'thick' or $.75 for 'extra thick'. Aaah, this is how it's done my friend. Almost a centenarian now and old-fashioned gal Crown Candy has hardly changed. Save for the neighborhood, it's a bit rough. Come. Order a BLT and a big shake and leave 5 pounds happier. read more

OK lets just get right to the point........Of course the ice cream was great, but holy shit is this a bad neighborhood. This is not coming from some blue blooded jerkoff who lives in Town and Country either....I'm a Tower Grove resident and have lived in a multi-ethnic city pretty much my entire life. That being said, I was still nervous driving over with 3 kids in the car. In the future i will just take HWY 70 right to St. Louis Ave, but since I was at my office downtown already, I just cut over on Tucker for that "scenic" 2 mile jaunt north. But the ice cream was awesome. Alex and Leyla both has chocolate chip ice cream sundae's topped with chocolate syrup, whipped cream and a cherry on top. It was absolutely to die for, and and the decor was pretty cool. And please feel free to NOT send over "Racist" type of emails and messages.....I'm just stating the obvious read more

I was really excited to go here, after friends and coworkers talked it up and I saw it on Food Network. Ordered the reuben, of course. Big sandwich on a little plate. It was a good sandwich, but not the best reuben I have eaten in this fair city, and the chips were ruffle-like from a bag. The best thing about the sandwich was that they put a lot of cheese on it and when they grilled it some of the cheese ran out of the sandwich and caramelized into this little bite of toasty cheese goodness. Shared a milkshake with a coworker...not in the cutesy, two-straws-in-a-soda-glass kind of way you saw in Lady and the Tramp. They brought the giant (24 oz!) milkshake out in the silver mixing cup and gave us both glasses to share. I should mention that it was a chocolate malt - I really like malt and usually don't get enough for my taste. This shake was amply malted! That said, I have also had better malts in STL. Overall, the meal was tasty and the service was good, but not special enough to drive very far or wait in line... read more

Absolutely gorgeous, 95-year old diner/soda fountain in the middle of the 'hood. The plain old turkey club had the most amazing tasting turkey and bacon ever. You must try the ice cream - prepared right there in the shop. We also bought a bunch of chocolates for the home folks. My favorite part was the old-fashioned phone booth. Sadly, I forgot the camera. I don't think there's anything to say that hasn't already been covered by the other reviews outside of my own recent (and first) experience at Crown Candy Kitchen. This place is for the carnivores! If there's a heaven, my first meal there would be one of CCK's BLTs, which satisfied my addiction to bacon for a good 12 hours (that's a really good thing) and went well along my chocolate malt. If you're not a mass eater, and dining with a friend at CCK, I suggest ordering a single malt, since it's a lot of chocolately malty goodness. After our meal, we had a banana split, which I ordered with their homemade vanilla and black walnut ice cream... We inhaled it, even though we were full. These folks know what they're doing. Next time I need to buy a mass of STL-related gifts, I'm stopping here for their extensive selection of their chocolate confections.... Like the solid chocolate Santa on display. If I had $50, I'd definitely buy it and save it for emergencies. Overall, this particular review doesn't do the place justice. You just have to go and check it out. Big groups might have a problem finding seating, since the booths are small and cozy. But this is one of those gems that's delicious, affordable, and has a great St. Louis story. Bring a camera! read more

Now, I know as much as the next guy that this city is fueled by nostalgia; yeah, I hear the "go crazy, folks" audio every Fall just like the rest of you. It's both endearing and kind of sad at the same time. And restaurants are definitely not exempt from this, which I guess is why Crown Candy Kitchen gets it's rave reviews. I ordered the three most famous things from CCK: chili, BLT, and a malt. The chili was "eh." It basically tasted like Steak-n-Shake. The BLT was really good, but honestly, how can you fuck up a BLT? Just add a ton of bacon and mayo, oh, you already did that. Thanks CCK. And the famous malt. Honestly, I don't know what the big deal is on that either. It tasted like a malt I could get at any ice cream stand. The only surprising thing was the water; I can't explain it, but Crown Candy has the best tasting water I've ever, uh, tasted. I was trying to decide between a two and a three star place, and I decided on two because I figure that--according to the Yelp samples of "Meh. I've experienced better." and "A-OK."--the only difference between a two and a three star restaurant is that both are fine, but a three star you might suggest to go to again, and a two star is a place that you don't really care if you ever go to again. It's not bad, and I guess the kinda run down place in a run down neighborhood is pseudo-charming, but overall, I don't really understand all the fuss. Oh, right, the nostalgia. Go crazy, folks. read more

I can't believe I've never written a review about this place! I mean, I've only visited twice. But I just think this place os great! My hubby enjoys their BLT, which they're known for. I've never ordered it myself, but I can tell you it's huge and it looks so good that it's now on my to-do list!! Personally, what I really love are the sweets! Their Cherry Ice Cream is wonderful! Especially if you top if with Hot Fudge. Just know that this is probably the thickest hot fudge you will ever have. And it does harden a bit after sitting on top of the cold ice cream. From the candy counter I love to get the dark chocolate PB cup. It's huge! And it has a great ratio of chocolate to PB. It's the perfect salty and sweet treat for this girl! The next time I make it back to STL, I've got to hit this place up! read more

Driving to CCK, my dining companion and I realized we needed cash, so we stopped at the bank at the end of the street. I pulled up so my friend could get her cash from the machine and when I looked in my rearview, I noticed a fireman was talking to her. She came back in and told me he had stopped her saying she didn't seem like she was from around there and that the neighborhood was very dangerous. Great intro to the Crown Candy experience. We drove down and the line was snaked out the door on a weekday. Waited about 20 minutes to get seating. Not bad. The seating is pretty blah. I was kind of uncomfortable because the bench of the booth and the table were really far, so I had to sit on the edge of my seat to eat and drink. I ordered the "big cheese," which came with chips. It was fine. Chips were standard ruffles type chips. Also fine. We ordered the hot fudge sundae, which was yummy. Enough to share. Service was fine. Not hard to be since it's such cramped quarters. Got my refill quickly. The candy was the best part. I got sour fruit balls. Yum! An experience for out of towners, but if I crave ice cream, I'll go somewhere closer- and in a less "dangerous" area. (Note: I wasn't afraid at all to be there. Yeah, it is a crappy area but they are trying to fix it up) read more

Crown Candy Kitchen is a blast from the past. It's almost 100 years old and looks like it hasn't really been renovated since then--the booths are for small, non-obese folks--and it's just so cool. Yes, the BLT (because is there a review here that doesn't mention it? No) is incredible. I wonder how many pig bellies are devoured there every day. The ice cream is made in-store. It's tasty and, yes, you must get a shake or malt while there. It adds to the old-school atmosphere. Their candies are also made in-store, and this is where Crown Candy really shines. Chocolates of all shapes and sizes, allsorts, and other treats are offered. The lines for this stuff during Christmas and Easter are out of control. In fact, the line to get into Crown Candy at any given time is usually out of control--be prepared to wait. It's like the Shake Shack of St. Louis. I find it's optimal to be there rightastheyopen or during dinner--people seem to forget that it's open past 5. This is a St. Louis institution, a 'must-do.' Good times--and food--for all. read more

First stop in town was to get food after a ridiculously long wait at the rental car company. Crown Candy Kitchen was closest so we visited and ordered the hot fudge pecan sundae, a BLT, and a chedder melt roast beef. The sundae was ready in seconds but the sandwiches took closer to 15 minutes. Why the long wait? Because the sandwiches are huge and made to perfection! The BLT had an entire pig's worth of bacon in it and the roast beef was perfectly melded with the cheese. But the star of this meal really was the sundae. I don't remember what I paid for it but whatever it was it was too little. So good we might pick one up on the way out of STL... read more

I've been here a few times. Crown Candy Kitchen is decent, and yet, such a horrible idea at the same time. Here's why: - After eating you feel bloated and overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. It has that effect on everyone I know who has gone here. If you have a malt shake (which I might add are really good) and one of their heavy sandwiches, you're looking at a solid 3 hours in the bathroom once you have allowed it to do its thing in your system. You will hate yourself after over consuming. I highly recommend to pack up half of it before you even start your meal just so you won't hate yourself later. Plus it will do well for a second meal. Avoid the trauma with this tip. - If you don't buy any of the candy, get a malt or milkshake. They're delish. I don't recommend trying the challenge of getting a free meal by drinking 5 malt shakes like the guy did off Man vs. Food. Malt and milkshake flavors are traditional with the seasonal flavor thrown in. Don't expect them to be too adventurous. - Snail slow service. Don't expect to get in and out in 30 minutes. In additional to the line out the door, add an additional 2 hours to your visit simply because it is that bad. It doesn't have to be that way, but for some reason every visit I've had, they've never changed. - BLT is hit or miss. I've had it where it was good and other times not so good. I guess you have to take the risk yourself to find out. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming. Enjoy the hand made candies and the old memoribilia that takes you back because it goes waaaaaaay back to circa 1913 when it first opened in North St. Louis City. read more

I don't understand the appeal of this place. The food is not that good. I'm not going to stand in line for three hours to eat something that is going to kill me. Also, what's with the styrofoam take-out containers. The amount of waste this place produces is appalling. read more

This place is definitely NOT for the health conscious folks. I've heard so much about Crown Candy Kitchen that I was dying to try the famous St.Louis eatery. First the neighborhood may seem a little rough but make sure that doesn't scare you off--because the shakes are amazing. Before trying Crown Candy Kitchen I shamefully thought all shakes were all equally made. But I was I proven wrong. I had the chocolate banana shake and holy cow-- love at first taste?! Everyone who visits/lives in the St. Louis area has to try Crown Candy Kitchen shakes at least once! :) Crown Candy Kitchen definitely lived up to its hype. read more

You remember that scene in Vacation where they drive through St. Louis (Well it's supposed to be ESL, but they screwed that up)? Roll em up. Well that kind of sums up my trip to Crown Candy Kitchen. Before you take me for a St. Charlatan or Chesterfieldian, I live in Downtown STL, so I'm pretty used to being not in a room with only white folk. But man, Old St Louis is like Beirut, except with Church's, it was hard to believer the area was just a few miles from my place. (Sorry wanted to make people aware). Suddenly you see a nice block and nice cars, is this heaven, not it's Crown. Man, I imagine my grandfather coming in here as a kid and it looking the same, I think I saw Wally and the Beav sipping on a malt. Seriously though, this place has the best BLT and Malt I've ever had (although, I don't know what the difference between a shake and malt is , just add malt?). The bacon for the blt is kettle cooked, I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I liked kettle cooked chips, so I assume it's some type of frying. The BLT is as good as they come. The malts, there are so many to pick, but I would suggest sharing it, don't try and be a hero, very rich, so keep up with the water as well. There will probably be a line, so plan ahead, but enjoy a rel St. Louis classic. read more

One day, I typed the word CANDY into the Yelp search bar and this place came up. I read over the reviews and decided I needed to go. Last weekend, I dragged my boyfriend and two other friends here. The sandwiches were big and delicious and I loved their chocolate malt. There was an old couple on a date and they shared a large sundae. When it was brought out, i pointed it out to my friend. Her eyes almost popped out -- she was THAT excited. Needless to say, we had a great time. It's a cute old school ice cream place that I'll definitely be returning to soon for another malt or shake. My only complaint is that this place doesn't do separate checks. Oh, well. No where can be perfect. read more

I've been to Crown Candy a few times for the candy counter and a sweet treat following a meal, but never for the meal itself. To get out of our offices for a bit, my brother invited me out for lunch. The line was a good 30 people deep by the time I got there at 11:40am and with a looming 1pm appointment, I was hesitant to get comfortable. The line moved steadily, though, and it helped that we only needed to seat 2 people. Word to the wise, if you plan to join with more than 2, expect a longer wait. Don't come in with more than 4 expecting to sit together. It probably won't happen. I ordered the BLT because it's "famous." Rightfully so!! The heap of bacon was larger than my head! The sandwich was amazing and absolutely ridiculous. The food came out within 5 minutes of our order, which was helpful and though the server was busy with other tables the whole time, I flagged her down before we left for a chocolate marshmallow sundae. It was delicious and huge! A must-stop if you're in the downtown area for a meal, but remember to give yourself a little time to stand in line, and that it's less than ideal for groups more than 4. read more

I have cried twice in my life. Once when I was seven and I was hit by a school bus. And then again when I heard about the BLT at Crown Candy Kitchen. I am new to St. Louis, having just moved here from Pawnee, Indiana, but I am not a Hoosier. Well, actually I am a Hoosier (again, being from Indiana) but that does not mean that I don't know when I'm being taken. To hear the way you filthy animals drone on about the BLT at Crown Candy, one would reasonably expect it to be the crowing achievement of man over hog. It is not. I say it needs more bacon. While the BLT at Crown Candy is indeed ample, like a Kardashian derriere, there is room for more pork between those toasty buns. That is if you ask me, which you should, because I know more about food than you do. The B, you see, is 1st for a reason. Best to keep your eye on the prize and all of your bacon on my BLT, Crown Candy Kitchen. I say good day to you. Ron Swanson, Food Critic in July of 2011 read more

Five..malt..challenge!!!?? Yes, since 1913, there has been an infamous Crown Candy Kitchen challenge! Just five malt shakes in 30 minutes and you can become a part of St. Louis history! Or... you can become one of thousands who have tried and have had to clean up their own mess. We are talking 24 oz. malt shakes, five of which adds up to just about a gallon! I hope to try this challenge this summer, so wish me luck! (P.S. I'm lactose intolerant... is this a bad idea?) The first time I went was with some fun people after hanging out at Forest Park. The location of Crown Candy Kitchen isn't in the best part of town, and some people have warned visitors not to go too late at night. But we went close to closing time, and everything was fine. When you get inside you really do get that classic old-fashioned diner feel, which is great. Our server was also very helpful and friendly. I had the chance to taste the strawberry malt shake, vanilla malt shake and chocolate + banana milk shake. I have to say, all of them were delicious, though I have a thing for strawberry. Comparing it to shakes at Steak & Shake, I'd say the Crown Candy Kitchen's shakes were far thicker, and they give a lot more. Also, believe it or not, there are also lunch and dinner menu items, but I have to say, they seem a bit pricey. I'll go back for shakes but probably not for their food items, though I hear their BLT is pretty good. Overall with good atmosphere and great shakes, Crown Candy Kitchen is definitely a must-visit. read more

For years, the iconic Crown Candy Kitchen was a wonderful island of nostalgia in the middle of a very run-down neighborhood. It's still extremely and unapologetically nostalgic, but I'm happy to say the surrounding neighborhood has, for the last few years, been given a facelift to where the typical tourist or suburbanite that make up most of the customer base won't feel so out of their element. Unfortunately, the work done has not led to great success, as a lot of the rehabbed buildings remain vacant. It's sad, but apparently the work was completed just before the recession hit, so maybe in a few years some tenants will appear. Meanwhile, nothing has changed within these four walls: an awesome collection of Coke trays lines the top of the booths, the old jukebox selections are still there to check out (I assume they no longer work - 6 plays for a quarter), the original candy counter is filled with freshly made candy and the menu remains pretty much the same - nothing trendy or even very healthy, but that's not why you come here. For this visit, our party of five had a couple of shakes, a bowl of chocolate ice cream and a sundae. All were very good. The shake is enough for two, really, as is the sundae, so don't be put off by the prices, which are more upscale than you'll find anywhere else on the north side, but still not that bad. If you haven't been yet, or if you're visiting from out of town, it's highly recommended. read more

Crown Candy Kitchen - Candy Stores Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

Candy for sale not made at Crown Candy? Why? Service at a snails pace and only 14 booths to wait on. Kitchen closed at 8:30 though I saw no sign making that statement. Waited in line with two groups in front of me for a stupid amount of time. Watching the servers clear a booth at a snails pace. First she removed the glasses then wondered off somewhere went over to a drink station ah must be waiting on someone no problem. Goes away again nope not waiting on anyone. Shows up with a towel to wipe the table down gives a solid 3 second wipe off whew I feel safe. Then I can sit down as the sign said you must wait till the tables has been cleared and cleaned. Standing in line staring at the Pepsi menu board surrounded by all the Coke memorabilia is uh interesting. Served a Pepsi instead of a Coke even more odd. Server comes up and asks what we would like. We said we would like 3 diet Pepsi's and a chocolate banana shake. In your wildest dream which drink would come out first? The diet Pepsi? NO! The shake. Server asks for our order and I ask when might the Pepsi's be coming? "Oh I can only serve them when they come up." Really? Now on the food. Please note DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING BUT THE BLT. Or if you a vegie order an LT. I did not order it and had a Reuben my son the famous Chip K ordered a tamale with chili. Epic fail on both of those. The BLT the two Mrs's K's looked and tasted wonderful. Why does the 8:30 kitchen closing have anything to do with me? It does not but this nice group of people who stood in line for god knows how long finally gets a shot at a table and were told sorry kitchen is closed at 8:30. It was 8:33 on my watch. They had a small little guy with them who just fell apart upon the news that he was not going to get any food. Poor kid. Poor me when I made the mistake of walking out in front of them and having to hear them and the kid go nuts. So there you are my take on the "Famous Crown Candy". Oh I forgot the toilet unisex of course made in the 1920's with a cool pink 1950's toilet seat. It was not nice folks. Uh no thanks. Never again. read more

One pound of bacon.. So of course we had to the give this place a try, anyplace that employs that amount of bacon in a BLT bears investigation. Now, I am not normally a big fan of BLT (raw tomato is not really my favorite food) but in this case it worked. The lettuce, tomato, mayon and bread all blended together to made the sandwich quite enjoyable (and not like you were just eating the bacon). We also tried the Rueben (quite satisfying) and the milkshakes (both were quite large and we split between two people), both of which combined with BLT's left us leaving quite satisfied. One trick to know? The big line outside is for those who want to eat inside. Luckily the staff made it known that those desiring take-out could skip the line and got inside and order. If the weather is nice there are a bunch of picnic tables across the street. And because it bears repeating, one pound of bacon! read more

Sumo-sized sundaes. BLTs with more real estate than anything Trump built. Massive milkshakes too much for any mortal to take. What's not to love? It's nostalgic. That's the best part. My dad loves this place because it reminds him of soda fountains from his childhood. We even ordered an egg cream here once. They make their own ice cream, dare people to down an ungodly amount of milkshakes for a prize and sell tons of candy you can't find anywhere else these days. You sit in tiny booths and look at memorabilia all over the walls. Food is food. It doesn't come with a funny name or weird toppings. It's naked. Bacon (though 12 hulking slices of it), lettuce, tomato and REAL mayonnaise on your BLT. Egg salad with eggs and mayo on white bread. No curries. No capers. Food that tastes good because it's made from scratch. And a bit of whimsy, too. read more
