Had and opportunity to revisit for a reunion with friends. Like going backwards in a Time Machine. Same decor tables Wow. The other thing that hadn't changed was the wings. Those award winning wing sauces were just as good as I remember. It was 1/2 price night place was lined up, but nobody was trying push us out to turn tables. Despite being showcased as an award winning wing spot in Toronto, Crown & Dragon underwhelms. To start, we got beers which weren't as cold and crispy as one might've liked. The wings came out extremely quickly, but somehow weren't as piping hot as you would expect. The quality of meat was just ok, and the wings are pretty average in size - the sauces were also solid but nothing to write home about. The fries were pretty greasy and didn't taste fresh at all, and the veggies had some dirt / residue on them. The dill sauce was very nice. There is a half-price wing special on Tuesdays after 5pm and Sundays all-day (with the purchase of any drink). I like how you can try a different flavour with each pound of wings. When I went, there were 22 fried wing flavours and 4 baked flavours. I visited on a Sunday at around 5pm, and it was already bustling with customers and music. Saw from another review that the baked wings were good, so that definitely took up one of the pounds/flavours. For the two of us, we shared the 3 pounds deal ($23.5 +tax instead of $47): - two pounds fried (Dragon Breath, Honeycomb Heaven) - one pound baked (Bollywood) - carrots/celery - one dill sauce for each pound of wings I also got a pint of their Canadian sub-zero draft. It was splendid with a balanced amount of malt due to the cold temperature shielding the hops that would have otherwise turned me away. Some of the flavour names were questionable, lol, but I wouldn't have any better naming conventions either. Bollywood baked wings had tandoori spices and were marinated in yogurt. Dragon Breath was really just coated in a buffalo sauce rub, and Honeycomb Heaven was like honey garlic with a lot of honey and just a touch of garlic. The fried ones didn't have as much chicken nor the flavour of chicken on its own, and were kind of dense and dry. Still better wings than the chains I've tried though. Honeycomb heaven was just alright; something I would find as a go-to comfort zone pick. Dragon Breath was too spicy to enjoy, and I had to soak the wings in the side of dill sauce to remove the tangy heat - an amazing combination that maybe needs to come pre-dipped. Baked wings are meaty and fresh, just like how homemade oven-baked wings are, but the Bollywood marinate really blew me away. I believe my exacts words were "why get dry tandoori chicken when you could have fresh tandoori wings?" If they introduced more baked wing flavours, I'd choose the baked option for every single pound of wings I'll ever get. Now onto ambience. I didn't recognize the music which was good because it served as the perfect background noise to my wing munching trance. And it was lively and nostalgic enough that I felt like I become one of those locals in a diner in a small town that would visit weekly for a dose of wings. I liked that everyone was either eating or in conversation, and that the server left me alone to enjoy my food. In the end we counted the bones, and there were 21 wings. Around 7 wings per pound, it looked and tasted like like a lot more meat than if I had gotten the same quantity at St Louis. 3 pounds of wings + a pint came out to be ~$35 after tax. People preparing that food are obviously underpaid and do not like their job. It shows in the quality of food they serve. This place moved up the bookmarks being in the neighborhood. Their claim to fame are their wings so having not tried some for a while was looking forward to it. First the initial impression this place needs a thorough overhaul as the place is greasy with old dingy furniture and dim lightning (some might call it character but lets face it that excuse has gone the way of the dodo bird for a while now). Limited selection of beers on tap as well with only mainstream options. We tried 4 types on this visit. Crown & Dragon is right across the street from my office but this is my first time coming here. It's a rustic, traditional pub that looks like it got stuck in time but not in a terrible way. It does kinda have a certain charm of its own. There are dart boards, TVs, and handwritten specials on chalkboards above the bar. Apparently, their wings were voted and judged best in Toronto and they're offered at half price (with the purchase of a beverage) all day on Sunday and after 5:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Good deal! I didn't feel for wings today so I had a small order of Slow Baked Pork Back Ribs with their award winning "Key West" sauce. It was served with a whole roasted corn on the cob and I opted for fries on the side. The ribs were tender and tasted good without being oversauced. The fries were cooked perfectly crispy and I love roasted corn. This was a good meal for $14 and a small order wasn't that small. Good value! My friendly server, the only one on duty, took care of all the patrons while hobbling around in a boot cast. Good job! Bless her! I'll have to come back to try their wings. Came in on a sunday for their half-price wings (with drink purchase). Place wasn't too busy after 8, but we still waited some time at the door despite there being several empty tables. Overall, service was kind of slow (they have like 2 guys attending customers) Washrooms are not particularly enjoyable to go in. They offer baked or fried wings and a couple dozen different flavours. Normally 1 LB costs $12, but if you order more than 1 LB you can save $1 per pound. At the bottom of the menu it says a LB of wings comes with 7 or 8 wings, because they're "bigger than other places". I feel this is only somewhat true, for example if you compare it to St Louis wings it's a bit bigger. Wings took about 10 minutes to be served, which may be reasonable I guess. While working back and forth between London and Toronto I like to "treat" myself at the end of the week with my favorite thing in the whole wide world... wings. What gives this place a leg-up over the competition is the fact that they offer not 1, not 2, but 4 different flavors of baked wings. That's huge for me. I'm a big guy and am trying to give up fried food, but you know how most wings come right? Fried. So, finding a place that doesn't fry them makes me respect them even more. Atmosphere/Appearance: Right across the street from the Canadian Tire on Yonge St. is this awesome place and neighborhood gem. It's a pub for sure. There's nothing fancy about it. There's wood trimming everywhere, hockey decor and plenty of tables to go around. Service: Kevin took care of me each time I came. I've been here about 5 or 6 times maybe and it was always on either a Wednesday or Thursday. I sat at the bar or took my food to go. He didn't smile much... or at least in my direction. Lol. I wasn't trippin', I was alone and here for the delicious food. Food: So during my visits I was able to try 10 or so of their wing flavors. Six of them were fried and 4 for baked. The Holy Habanero uses fresh habanero peppers as well as other spices giving the wings a hot and smokey flavor. It was plenty spicy and I loved it. The Piri Pri uses a variety of red peppers to give it a very, very spicy flavor. It wasn't astronomical to where you couldn't enjoy the food, but was still very good. The next 4 flavors were all baked. Foghorn Leghorn wings are marinated in their unique blend of spices. Their then baked and grilled to perfect deliciousness. Do The Jerk wings are marinated in the freshest Caribbean spices, making them taste like they're straight from Jamaica. I loved these. Bollywood were my favorite flavor. They are marinated in tandoori spices and yogurt then baked before being grilled for that BBQ feel. THESE WERE FANTASTIC. Last, but not least, were the Cuban Sun wings which are baked with a blend of spices leaving them a bit spicy, but then cooled down with a hint of lime. Every flavor they have here is fantastic. I've had several other, but cannot remember which they were since I had them before I really got into Yelp. You can't go wrong though. I'll always be sticking with the baked choices. All of the wings come with ranch, carrots and celery. Even the ranch is delicious! Value: All prices are in $CAD. The wings are sold in pounds which yield about 6 to 8 wings each. Whenever I came I scooped up 4 pounds. Two to eat that night and 2 to take home to the states to eat there. Lol. They costed me $52.00 for 4 pounds. If you only wanted 1 pound it's $14.00, 2 pounds for $27.00 and 3 for $40.00. If you come and dine in on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 5:30pm, the wings are 1/2 off! That's a deal! In conclusion I don't think I'll eat wings anywhere else in Toronto. I'm completely sold and in love with what the Crown & Dragon Pub has to offer. Get here and try them! read more

Crown & Dragon strikes a good balance between traditional buffalo wings, and the overdone flavours you'll find at wing shops like Allstar or Wild Wing. The wings are crispy, not overly battered and what you hope to find when you bite into a chicken wing. No heavily processed, freezer bag garbage here. Don't miss the dragons breath, killer bee or garlic parm. Top 3, you're welcome. Fries and onion rings are on point, cold beer and lots of tv's to watch the game. To management: three of us came into your restaurant for beer and wings and had to wait at the bar for our seat. No issues with that. According to your signs, you offer $4.50 "pints of domestic Canadian - Coors - Bud" see attached pics. We ordered Coors as advertised and were charged regular price. When we asked the bar tender he told us it was for Coors Light not Coors. I asked our server to speak to the manager explaining the confusion with the advertised sign. He rudely and sharply responded "IT'S COORS LIGHT!!" To which I pointed to the sign. Again he rudely responded "IT'S COORS LIGHT!!" and no manager was brought to us to speak about our complaint. I've heard for years about how Crown and Dragon has the best wings in Toronto. I recently checked them out for the first time, ordering the house special Dragon's Breath. I love wings but I'm very picky about them. These wings went wrong the way pub wings usually do: under-fried and over-sauced, leading to flabby chicken skin. This review would have been 2 stars, however, I tried my friend's cajun wing, which was significantly crispier and better. I also enjoyed the dill dipping sauce that came with the wings. We went on Tuesday night for half price wings, it was fairly busy and they were understaffed for a house-full (just 3 servers), but we were still seated within reasonable time, the order was taken and the food was brought all within half an hour. Went here after playing tennis with some friends. One of them suggested this restaurant as it was nearby and half priced wings on Sunday with a purchase of a drink. There were some empty tables but we sat somewhat close to the TV to watch some Sunday Night Football. They have a wide selection of flavours for the wings and when you order 2+ lbs, it will save you about $1 per lb with a choice of 1 flavour per lb. We decided not to share flavours as it made not much difference with the half priced deal. The staff were nice and quick when we needed them. My friend said we would get more carrot and celery sticks if we split so it evened out in the end. There is a patio but with summer almost over, the nights could be chilly. On their menu they claim that their wings are larger than normal but they definitely weren't - our order was barely enough to feed all of us full. Their garlic parm flavour was a disappointment, the best flavours we got were the key west bbq and honeycomb. We also ordered nachos but unfortunately the chips came out mostly burnt and it doesn't come with cheese. Ordered 3 pounds of wings for pickup (Dragon's Breath, Honeycomb Heaven, and Smokin Gun). Also got some calamari and cheesy garlic bread for appetizers. The appetizers were fine. Nothing special. Would try different ones next time. The wings were a little less meaty than what I'm used to (which is wings in the US, and I think food regulations might just be different, because all the wings I've had in Canada have been a bit less meaty). The preparation was fine and the sauces were average to me. Really not sure why these were voted the best wings in Toronto; everything about the chicken itself was standard. So why 4 stars and not 3? It might sound silly but the dipping ranch for the wings and veggies was EXCEPTIONAL. Probably the best ranch I've ever had. I have walked past Crown and Dragon many times, but had never gone in. So when I won a $25 gift certificate on Twitter (@CrownandDragon) it was a bit worrisome since I live a short walk away, and if I liked it, chances were that I would make excuses to return - cause I love pubs, and one that serves great wings would be a dangerous place for me to frequent (got a figure to maintain ;)). Anyway, I contacted three of my closest friends, and suggested that we visit Crown and Dragon on an evening when wings are 50% off - so we went with a Tuesday night. Ambiance I arrived at 5:45pm and restaurant was already at 75% capacity. I agree that the furniture and vibe is quite dated, but if you have frequented as many pubs as I have in Ireland and Scotland, the best pubs are the ones that have not seen a coat of paint in decades, if not centuries, and you wonder whether the chair you are sitting on can be considered antique. So I had no qualms with the dated space. Service There was one bartender and two waitresses. By 6:30pm the restaurant was at full capacity, and there were several groups waiting near the entrance for a table. Unfortunately, I felt that our waitress was more concerned about refilling our drinks, than food, so she would only come by when our drinks needed refilling (no, there are no free refills), but when we tried to get her attention for issues related to food - as in we want to order more food or inquiring about our missing order - she was difficult to flag down. But I guess it is understandable when you have a full house with limited staff. Food It is true that most people visit Crown and Dragon for the wings, and rightly so. They have 18 flavors of fried wings, and 5 options for baked. We started with 4lb option and each one of us chose a flavor: Honeycomb Heaven, Don How's Hawaii, Smokin' Gun and one baked option - Do The Jerk. The wings came with the standard celery and carrot sticks, with a side of ranch dressing. We actually enjoyed all four flavors, though I preferred the fried wings, over the baked. For the 2nd round we chose: Dragon's Breath, Turning Japanese, Mardi Gras, and Cuban Sun. I really liked the Dragon's Breath, though I thought it could have been spicier, and also liked the crispness of the Mardi Gras but it was a tad too salty. I really did not like the Turning Japanese and the Cuban Sun - to the point that I only took one bite of each and refused to finish it. Also, since appetizers are discounted before 6pm, I ordered the Spicy Spinach Dip ($9.95 - a spicy spinach and cheese dip, served warm with a side of pita and crispy tortilla chips), and was pleasantly surprised by the taste, though it did not look very appealing when it was placed in front of me. I also loved that the pita pieces were served warm. My friend Angela loves sweet potato fries, so she ordered the Yam Fries ($6.95 - sweet potatoes that are hand cut and dipped with our own seasonings and golden fried) right after we had our first round of wings, and did not get them until we were almost done our second round of wings (the kitchen and waitress forgot about them). When the fries were placed in front of us, we did not know what the heck we were looking at! Each piece was massive, and unfortunately soggy! It also came with a really weird sauce on the side (soy sauce plus hot sauce combined). It was necessary for us to dip these beasts into the ranch dressing that was meant for the wings. Overall... I really enjoyed the food and experience at Crown and Dragon, and loved having the option of trying a bunch of different wing flavors, so that on future visits, we can choose our favorites. Though I think that next time we will try the flavors we have not tried yet - 8 down, 15 to go! Oh, and I also want to try some of their other appetizers. I am not feeling the four-star average of this place. At. All. Maybe we should have tried the wings. There is obviously some drug in them that dupes folks into thinking this is a good pub when in actuality it's passable at best. Beer selection? Almost non-existent. Mostly variations on a theme of bland big-name lagers. The little card on the table that proudly states they "pour" Flying Monkeys fails to mention they pour it from a bottle. Or actually they don't. Since there was no glass and no pouring. And they only had the worst of the three Flying Monkey options listed on the card. Somersby Cider? Pretty flat ... and for some reason served with ice cubes in it. Really!? Is that a thing now? Medium rare steak? Well done. And served with flavorless veggies and salad. Yam fries. Passable (and pleasantly thick) but for some reason served with a soy dip that should go with egg rolls. Blech. The only good thing was the calamari, which was tender, if a bit oily. If I'm going to give five stars for wings, this is the only place in Toronto that earns it. There are plenty of four star wings out there but only one place can get five. Perfectly battered, perfectly moist and perfectly flavoured, these wings embody the main three attributes that define a chicken wing. They have about 30 flavours to choose from but I usually gravitate towards the Roadside Lemonade and then mix up my second pound of wings with another flavour. There was a point in time where they strayed away from their discount periods but I'm happy to report that Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings and all day Sundays are half price. The only other menu item that I've tried are the fries and onion rings but I am not going to penalize Crown & Dragon for them being mediocre. Besides, all I want are their wings! read more

So much meh in this place. Apparently Sunday - Thursday is wing night, so the place was pretty full. My friend and I were seated at a patio set at the back of the place, which is not my ideal seating arrangement, but I was hungry. Being wing night, I ordered a pound of Cold Sweat wings, promising a mix of Chinese and Indian flavours. What a disappointment. The wings were overcooked and the meat was tasteless, the spice mix on top was okay, but not nearly the flavour explosion that was promised. There are better wing places out there, in my opinion, I won't be going back. On the bright side, I enjoyed the most effervescent pint of budweiser ever. This place is our new go-to neighbourhood pub for a beer and some deep fried food. It's a bit dingy and probably not the cleanest, but I guess that's part of the charm. The wings are seriously awesome, especially for the price when you go on wing night (Monday/Thursday, I believe) and all day Sunday. Note that you do have to order a drink. The wings themselves are pretty meaty, and they have awesome flavours. Dragon's breath is their signature sauce, and although it is pretty spicy it's so good. I also enjoyed the italian, which is dry rubbed with parmesan and spices. We also tried the key west BBQ, which was tangy and delish. I honestly like all the flavours we have tried. I haven't tried a lot of their other food, but I did try the chicken fingers and these are insanely good. The chicken fingers are made with chicken breast and are made fresh to order. Maybe I'm just not a wing person, but I don't get the hype for this place. I found it after searching for best wing places in toronto. We did a takeout order of 4 different flavours: Smoking Gun, Southwest BBQ, Honeycomb and Turning Japanese. Their portions are small and contrary to the note on the menu saying that their wings are larger than average, I didn't find that to be the case. The Honeycomb was my favourite, the turning Japanese was too salty for my taste. The other two were decent but they were not spicy at all (quite sweet actually) despite their one spice rating. Overall, it's on par with other wing places like St. Louis in terms of taste but the serving sizes are smaller. read more

Got the garlic bread and viva italia wings while I was here, and both were pretty good. I prefer softer bread, but the crispiness was still good. The wings were really filling, albeit a little dry. I would love to try more of their other flavours. 1/2 price appetizers were also a bonus. One of my favourite pubs in the city. A bit on the smaller size, so it can be difficult to get a table at times, but it's busy for a reason. The wings live up to the hype, but the true star are the dragon fingers. The sauces are also delicious, so be sure to give them all a try! Truly awful service. We (two of us) waited at their entrance (we were the only people in line) for close to 20 minutes without even a word being said to us. Can't imagine the food being any good if the service is this appalling. The server and bar men saw us waiting to get seated (or atleast spoken to) and yet no one moved a muscle. Came here for regular priced wings. 4 lbs for $41, about 7 wings per lb. Chose Dragon's Breath, Honey something, Mardi Gras and Coca Cola. Dragon's breath is supposedly the award winner and very spicy, but it was neither very hot nor that great. As my buddy described "tastes like it was tossed in Frank's". Mardi Gras was the dry rub one and definitely the pick of the bunch. Had some cheesy-parmesan like taste as well, which was good. The honey and coca cola ones were too sweet for my taste. Not the best in terms of value, but not many people were here on regular-priced wing night. Come on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you do come! read more

MMmmmm I love chicken wings. And I discovered I sure love chicken wings at Crown and Dragon! I'm glad my friend introduced me to this place. I got the Dragon's Breath which is a level 3 spicy (their highest) and I ate the whole thing and survived! Woot woot for me! :D Okay actually, it wasn't all that spicy, very tolerable I would say. Their wings are a lot bigger than average (and meaty!) so 1 lb is about 8 pieces and comes with veggies and dip. They also have killer yam fries - made in house, super long, hand cut style and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, perfect I say! Besides the wings and fries, I also like this place because they got GREAT DEALS! Tuesdays and Thursdays are half priced wings. They have specials every day of the week. Perhaps the best wings in Toronto are served here. I love their honey garlic wings. Even better, pair them with the yam fries, served with soya sauce. Heavenly! So bad for you, but tastes so good. Another thing they do well is their burgers. It can get quite busy here on games nights. Pro-tip: The wing special nights are Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays. Amazing wings, even better since the half price deal returned on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Yam fries are amazing but apart from that I haven't tried much on the menu apart from the wings. The excellent service and attentive staff make this the best wing joint in the city by far! read more
