If you want a quick(ish) bit to eat whilst out shopping then Wetherspoons is better than O'Neils or Yates - otherwise I'd avoid it. Toilets tend to be fine and staff friendlier than in some.

In the evenings however, on peak nights, it is sometimes unbearably crowded, difficult to get served at the bar and near impossible to find anywhere to sit. The menu offers a great selection, but I have to say, if you get anything other than the carvery on a Sunday (and now Tuesday nights!), you're obviously mad. It's delicious! The children's menu was generous, with all the usual offerings. It has a beautiful garden with picnic tables to the back, plus a brilliant climbing frame for kids. One bank holiday we went, there was also a bouncy castle, which made for very happy (and ultimately hungry) children. Service is what you'd expect from a pub, but I have to say, one waitress we had while sat in the older part of the pub (mind your head on the beams!) really went out of her way to be helpful and friendly. I look forward to any excuse to visit this restaurant, it's always a nice, relaxing place to go.
