Ace is the place for.... Pies??!! Yes, you heard right, Ripon, CA's The Pie Company has a deal with Ace that entails a big freezer full of delectable, whole pies to be found near the front of this store. As a pie fan who grew up down South and has baked my share of homemade pies over the years, my standards are high. Besides the hand pies at Pop Pie, and NoCo's shuttered Betty's Pie Whole, I hadn't found a quality local pie purveyor with multiple pie options. Until today. Ace's freezer is stocked with at least 3 different apple pie variations, and tons of other fresh fruit-based options like blueberry, boysenberry, mixed berry, peach and apricot. I took an apricot pie home ($18.99), followed the simple bake instructions and was rewarded with a delicious final product. You can taste the real butter in the crust, the filling is hearty and features large apricot chunks, and the whole pie sings with delicious, well balanced flavors. Can't wait to try boysenberry and other less common flavors next time I'm hit with a pie craving and feeling too lazy to bake my own. I needed to change the locks on our condo, and I needed it ASAP. I searched on Yelp for help. Home Depot was the closest, but they were out of stock. I found Crown Ace Hardware, so I went to check them out. As I walked into the front entrance, I was greeted by a cashier with a warm greeting. She was busy with customers but took the time to acknowledge me. The store was neatly organized and clean. The employees in every department said hello and asked if I needed help. The hardware gentleman guided me to the correct aisle. I glanced at all options and found what I needed. The store is in a nice retail shopping center. There's ample shared parking. There's a movie theater and eateries as well. The store is like all other hardware stores. They sell paint and supplies, electrical, housewares, plumbing, garden center supplies, grills, snacks, hardware, and much more. They also have hard to find specialty items as well. Planned a pickup order since I was going to be in the area. Super quick parking, very clean location, and staff was super welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. Proceeded to the pickup area and learned that they still do keys! I used to get done at Ealmart, but when their machine broken, they stopped doing it by hand and installed a machine that is self-done, so that is a big plus and it seems like we get keys done quite often! I can't say enough good things about this Ace Hardware. The staff is so friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. I left there with a big smile on my face and found everything that I needed including a very difficult to find screw that Home Depot didn't even carry. If you ever need anything hardware related, or even some fun impulse buys, come to this location! ACE Hardware stores pack a surprising amount of inventory in a small footprint. The last time I visited one was in another state. This location in the Clairemont Town Square shopping complex was one of the larger facilities I have seen. Parking was not an issue at all, although I found it odd that several spaces right out front had a 20 minute time limit. Such a designation is usually reserved for businesses that need to turn over their customer volume quickly which I don't associate with a hardware store. I came mainly to browse their tool selection which was pretty solid. The layout of their aisles was much tighter and dense with products compared to the big box stores. The workers were pleasant as a couple of them asked if I needed assistance. You rarely see that happening at the national chains. The prices at ACE are higher than the competition however, sometimes they carry a specific item or model that you won't find elsewhere. The organization and cleanliness of this branch were excellent. read more

This is a great hardware store that focuses on customer service. What a change from the Home Depot or Lowes.

I was hard pressed to find some 60 degree irragation connectors. I tried many places including Home Depot, Lowes, a specialty plumbing store and even an irrigation and sprinkler specialty facility and the connectors were no where to be found. I searched the internet and to my surprise Ace Hardware had what I was desperately searching for and they were "In Stock" per their web site. So I called the the Crown Ace Hardware store and the phone was answered immediately and I was told yes the connectors were available. I drove to the location and I purchased the connectors and I must say the customer service I received was a 10 out of 10. Thank You Crown Ace Hardware for "saving my day". Learned today store stopped offering a 10% military discount. Can't imagine the discount cutting deeply into their profit line, so there must be another reason. Was informed in lieu of the discount they offer double points for store purchases. This place is amazing. Over the years, I've gotten used to "customer service", so to actually encounter customer service without the ironic quotes is refreshing. The staff work so well together and there's genuine affection and respect in their interactions with each other and with customers. There is a large but not huge inventory so there's a nice array of price points without being paralyzed by an overly large choice of options. Anybody you talk to can and will tell you where the digital fractionized calipers are, where the generator engine oil is, and/or talk you through replacing your garbage disposal while they're at it. I go out of my way to patronize this business because it's so much more than a trip to the hardware store. read more

My partner purchased a soda stream for me at this location as a Christmas gift. She bought the unit, two CO2 canisters and a few bottles of flavoring. Yesterday, the 1st container was exhausted, I attempted to replace the canister. It turns out, the second container was the wrong one (there are different models, although the canisters are very similar in appearance). I went to refill the exhausted CO2 canister and exchange the one that was the wrong type. The clerk called the manager to handle the transaction. I explained that I'd like to refill one and exchange the other. She immediately replied that she could not exchange the incorrect tank because the thin plastic wrap around the top of the bottle had been removed (I attempted to load it into the soda stream, and needed to remove the plastic film). I explained that it was completely full as it was unable to connect to the device. She repeated she couldn't refund or exchange it - a plastic wrap similar to the ones on water bottles was the reason I couldn't get an exchange. Most people who has bought lots of things or has worked in retail for more than a week or two and has the slightest bit of customer facings skills could easily find a way to work it out (RMA, etc). I left with one refill and one useless CO2 container and left with the impression that the manager had no interest in working something out. Now, had she explained the specific reason why she couldn't make it work, I likely would have felt differently. It was not busy, I was the only person in line. My partner drives the extra mile or three to shop there specifically because it's a retail cooperative and not a corporation. We won't be going anymore as Home Depot is less than a mile away and neither of us has a had an issue with returns there. How many of us have bought a saw blade or drill bit, opened the package and realized it was the wrong one? Never been a problem at Home Depot, Lowe's etc., but at Ace that seems to be the case. As an aside, Soda Stream products are not worth the money. It's costs 28 dollars to replace the CO2 tank which will last 1 month if you use it daily. In contrast, it will cost you about 35 bucks to replace a propane tank, which is 10 times bigger and will last 6 months with frequent use. I'll be pursuing a DIY approach for carbonated beverages and not shopping at this particular ACE going forward. read more

I have had "Dean" from this store help me with reprogramming my car for lost keys, mixing paint, finding screen replacement tools, recommendations for getting rid of pesky gophers, you name it. Dean has always, without exception been friendly, provides service with a smile and always seems to be in a great mood. Yesterday I was in buying some potting soil and didn't need help but Dean said "hey, nice to see you again". From when I walked in, ACE employees greeted me promptly and asked what I was in store for. I told them I was looking for screws. They knew I had never been in the store as I was going in the wrong direction. I was directed to the exact aisle I needed. I was overwhelmed by the selection so I went to find someone. Multiple employees were available. Claudia was very helpful. She showed me how to measure the existing screw I brought with me for its length and diameter. Due to where I was going to use it, she told me that I needed a stainless steel one. I appreciated that she took the time to explain what I needed and how to find it so next time I knew what to look for. The store is immaculately clean and tidy. Visuals at the end of aisles and in front of products makes it easy to navigate the store. ACE's prices are higher than other stores but to have a knowledgeable and friendlier person available when you first walk in and not have to hunt for someone is something I am willing to pay for. So being honest I have never been to an Ace Hardware before, are usually go to the bigger businesses. In this case I had a bit of a meltdown, I left my keys in my car and lock them inside. I tried to do everything I could to retrieve my keys with what I had on me which did not honestly work. Since they were open and they were close by I decided to give them a shot and see what I could find to help me get into my car. As I walk in I was greeted by two gentlemen, I gave them the lowdown of what was going on and they were very helpful in finding all of the possibilities in their store to help me get into my car again. I ended up buying A magnetic pick up tool that extends up to 3 feet long, so as far as the experience inside of Ace Hardware I was very pleased with the customer service and their helpfulness on a odd subject!! Short end of the story is I could not reach even with the 3 foot extension to get to my keys which were on the opposite side of my car window that was cracked open, but with a little ingenuity I retrieved my keys and was very very pleased to say the least. There was plenty of goodies to shop for inside of their store, I had a hard time keeping focus, but that's her usual for me since I'm a big tool guy. Overall I would definitely say I would recommend this place just because of their helpfulness and their attentiveness to specific issues. read more

The store associate took my call and confirmed they had plenty of the items. Drove there and I was in and out of the store in minutes.
