I was feeling pretty anxious and desperate when I turned to Craigslist in my search for movers…read more(after having contacted multiple bigger moving companies, whose rates and minimum time requirements didn't match what I was looking for). Shawn's ad immediately stood out from the rest because it linked to his yelp page- hooray! I am forever grateful for this means of getting the real scoop, and think it's a great idea for smaller companies/laborers to have a page that sets them apart from the sketchier folks on Craigslist. The glowing reviews were right on the money! Shawn and Eden left my apartment less than a half hour ago and I'm happy to give them another great review. My move was as below: -From a 6th floor apt with an elevator that leads to the back alley to a 3rd floor apt with no elevator, approx 2 miles away. -One medium sized sofa (3 cushions across), 2 ottomans, 1 dinette/breakfast table for two, and 1 very tall bookshelf Not too much stuff, and Shawn quoted me a $120 flat fee for two movers and his pick up truck. Though it's not necessarily INexpensive, compare it to big companies, who charge an average $90/hr for two movers, with an avg 2 hour minimum and $45 travel fee. I think I got a great deal, and if I had paid much less I would have worried that I was exploiting some hardworking folks. Shawn and Eden were about 20 minutes late- they did call me at 4:05 (moving time was 4p) to let me know they would be here soon. I was slightly annoyed, as I would have preferred a heads up before 4p, but can understand that that's not always possible. They started working as soon as their feet hit the ground, and the whole move lasted from 4:20-5:15ish, under an hour! Shawn and Eden were personable, quick, and careful with my possessions. They knew just how to angle my stuff so it fit into a teeny elevator. They made sure everything was tied down in their truck so nothing would accidentally fall out or anything. They also let me ride back to my apartment with them, which I appreciated a lot. Four stars for the obvious reasons- they only have a pick up truck, and no insurance. No packing materials are provided, so wrap your own sofa/mattress if you're worried. But I would definitely recommend them for smaller, simpler moves like mine! A few things to keep in mind- always offer your mover some water! I was so surprised to hear that I was their third move of the day- and the smallest by far, it seems- and the first to offer water. And, try to build in as much flexibility into your moving day as possible, so that you aren't overstressed when the unexpected occurs, which is all too likely to happen. I would say 99% of movers don't enjoy being late to their next job, and 99% of the time it's not their fault- the office folks offered misleading estimates, a service elevator went bonkers or a reservation was screwed up, the previous customer underestimated the amount of crap they had, etc. I have found movers to be some of the most hardworking guys around and on the receiving end of a lot from stressed out customers, and it shouldn't be that way. Thanks Shawn and Eden! You guys were fantastic!

FAMILY MOVERS, a HUGE disappointment! We've moved 3x's in…read morethe past 2.5 yrs, & have a good bit of experience in the process. After purchasing our now forever home in White House, TN, we decided to hire a local full service moving company. The previous 2x's, we rented a large U-haul truck & hired U-haul's recommended co to handle the physical part of it. Both times, there were 2 men. Both times they did a fantastic job. Not a thing was broken or disturbed & the cost was very reasonable. Enter Family Movers - They recommended 3 men at a cost of $209 per hour + a $99 trip charge. It ended up being $1300 + to move us 9 blocks. (Twice the cost of U-haul.) It was a hot day (6/25/25), but we had cold bottles of water for the guys & the A/C on full blast. The load in was easy. 25' from our 1 story ranch to their old truck. One of the guys spent more time complaining & finding ways to stay inside where it was cool. We had some expensive pieces of furniture, I pointed out. One being a 150 yr old trunk from Europe that ultimately ended up getting tossed around, throwing the contents inside all around, breaking a delicate, decorative cover. Next, we caught one of their guys ROLLING our round leather ottoman full of priceless family keepsakes & photos out to the truck! As they finished unloading & were in a rush to get out the door, I asked them if they had re-hooked up our washer & dryer? They hadn't. (Should movers disconnect appliances, they're obligated to reconnect them). After they supposedly took care of reconnecting the washer & dryer, they left. The next day, we needed to do laundry. It turns out they ripped the end of the dryer vent hose & didn't take the extra 2 mins to place it back on correctly using a screwdriver to tighten the clamp on the hose. (our laundry room was completely wet). They also lost the clamp to the washer hose, and water FILLED our new laundry room! I contacted FM's boss, sent him photos & an explanation, but he blamed us!!! NEVER USE THEM!!!

We agreed to roll with it and make it work, thinking maybe it'd been a misunderstanding. Five minutes later I enter the room to hear him saying to her "You think because we are movers we will just move anything?" I said "Excuse me?" and asked what he meant and he pointed to a medium-sized box holding about 12-15 hardback books packed tightly and taped on top. "Would your husband or you like to have to move this up a flight of steps? I think not." "Are we going to have to call someone else?" I asked. He wondered why I was getting aggressive at that point apparently oblivious to his own tone and belligerence. So on it went; some boxes were "too small" for the dolly, some were "too big to carry up steps" some should have been packed in specially purchased boxes, one item--which contained rare books carefully wrapped and sorted in a particular manner that I've moved alone multiple times and had moving companies move in the past was scoffed at as he asked me to unpack it and repack it into smaller boxes (which I didn't have). The rudeness he gave me was pale in comparison to how he spoke to my wife whenever I was not in the room and she had anything close to an instruction for him (are we loading the truck or are you? He would ask). I gather he doesn't like listening to women. It was a rather hot day. When we finally got to our final location where we were moving he and his team took a water or sitting break every time they moved an item upstairs. So--use a ramp and dolly to move a load of boxes or a piece of furniture--take a break. At $185/hour and the estimated 2.5 hours of moving time that they took longer than the move should have taken this was expensive. I spent the entire time the team did moving items myself from our cars up the steps, including heavy items that I knew ahead of time wouldn't go into a moving truck safely and I wasn't about to ask for help given the attitude he had presented all morning but so much for "would you like to move something upstairs--I think not". You know, there are actually a lot of things I'd rather not do and sometimes that's reason enough to hire professionals to do it for you and moving is ostensibly this man's job. If he doesn't like it he should investigate another line of work. I've used 3 or 4 moving companies in the past and never faced anything similar to this. I've moved with friends and none of us were professionals yet we finished in half the time too--in August heat, December drizzle, rain, up four flights of stairs or across yards you can't park in. Like a lot of occupations I gather moving has its share of complications and difficulties but I thought I was hiring moving professionals who are able to navigate those difficulties. I itemized a list of things said or done that were unprofessional or inefficient and sent it to the office manager of this company and gave them time to respond and/or make it right. They didn't, so I'll post my reviews so that others don't end up with a company that makes a stressful and difficult day--moving day--even harder. FYI, it seems the office manager is the wife of the man running the truck and moving so good luck getting any correction on anything they do wrong. So why two stars after all of that? Because despite the man's belligerence his crew--three young people who seemed to be about 16-20 years old--were all hard working, friendly, polite and doing the best they could. I gathered two were his children and one was a friend of theirs. They mitigated some of the damage done by the company's horrible customer service. Also FYI--there are multiple listings for this company for different cities in the area; I believe all route back to the Gallatin location and all are the same small crew. I'd recommend one of their competitors, maybe 6th Man Movers or Two Men and a Truck who I've found to be nothing but professional and who have much better reviews than these folks.
