Moved to MN from TX last month. Finally got off my kiester to get my DL and vehicle registration…read moreswitched over. Came here cuz it was nearby to my new residence. It's a smaller, more intimate, maybe you might even say rustic, DMV. The walls were plastered with fun hockey posters and license plates from various states, plus a big sasquatch if you want a selfie to commemorate your new residency in the land of lakes. This DMV was not big, commercialized, or intimidating, which was nice. Small parking lot as a result, but I found a spot easily enough and joined the line of people outside. There was a line simply because they have a limit on the number of people that can be crowded inside at any given time (I think 15?). Probably leftover from the COVID-19 days; but I gotta say, not having quite so many bodies inside was actually nice once I got in there (didn't feel crowded or noisy or stuffy as a result), and I didn't mind waiting outside on such a nice balmy day as today was. Might've felt a lot differently on a winter day, haha. There were about four employees behind the counter working diligently away at the queue, calling numbers as they went. I read the signage above the counter that had instructions, took a number, grabbed my necessary paper form and filled it out while I waited. Overall I don't think I waited more than fifteen minutes to be seen! That was awesome. The person who helped me initially was off-putting and quiet (probably because they deal with so many grumpy people), but they quickly warmed up to me as we chat and exchanged pleasantries and stories. (Such as me remarking on them playing awesome 80's music in the background.) The process was reasonably efficient. I was given estimated wait times for when I would receive my official documents in the mail. Left happy.

You need a county birth certificate not hospital ceremonial one, mail with your name on it, and other identification. Bad: man working is a douche. He also yelled at my 2 year old son, 19 years ago when he stood on a chair. He also yells at customers. This location is faster at getting you served. The Dakota County one in Burnsville has inconsistent hours. Fridays before memorial day weekend are insanely busy. Now I wait up to 8 weeks for real ID to arrive. I also renewed my passport today. We'll see which one arrives first.

The wife and her read many negative comments. After our experience yesterday I can only tell you one thing. Before blaming an entire business of being the problem look in the mirror. They were courteous. Conscientious of our time (they got us in 45 minutes early). And were extremely helpful and friendly. From the clerk at the counter for the tests, the driving examiner, to the Deputy Registrar. We couldn't have had a better experience, more friendly encounter and prompt polite service. Maybe the reason they get so many bad reviews by future drivers, and parents, is because they actually do a good job at evaluating your shortcomings and keeping the rest of us safe from ill equipped drivers. Maybe your son or daughter failed because they are bad at driving? Maybe you failed because you simply suck as a driver? Maybe we should all thank them for keeping us safe and not letting bad drivers on the road just because people think its a right not the true privilege it is to be allowed to drive on the public roadways! ? I thank them all and my daughter passed on her first try! And we were given a great explanation as to why she passed and what she still needs to work on. So yes I know my kid isn't perfect and appreciate the information on what she still needs to work on. Clearly they were not major issues to the public's safety. Maybe yours were?

Not sure if it's because of all the Covid protocals or what, but the whole DMV process in the state…read moreof Minnesota is absolutely awful. A few notes... 1) To take the written exam (either for newbies or out-of-state), you have to make an appointment online. I checked everyday for weeks for one when none were available for the next six weeks, so that was an awful process. How do people manage this when they work full-time? 2) Once I finally got an appointment, I came fully prepared (with mask too like the email said, but staff wasn't wearing them...) and had to scan a QR code to wait in a digital line outside in 85 degree heat. The email clearly stated to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time, yet I stood outside "in line" for that whole duration. Once called inside, I showed all my documentation then took the exam on a touch-pad screen. Just saying, but maybe if the computer stations weren't so close to each other, more appointments could be available! 3) Then I came back a week later to get my license plates, transfer title, etc. Online says you have to have an appointment (not this again) but there is no correct selection for the services I was looking for, so I just went through the drive-thru. Everything worked out, then I was told to park in front of the building to wait for my plates (~30 min wait time). I went early in the morning to avoid a long line, but I've seen the drive thru wrap around the building into the street before so beware! By the way, THEY ONLY ACCEPT CHECKS OR CASH!! Overall it's just such a weird process that could be improved in SO many ways. Also, someone please explain to me how I received my new title in the mail within two weeks, but was told my new driver's license would take 8-10! This all isn't this particular location's fault, but everything just seemed so uncomfortable to me.
