I've had several very rude instructors. One cranky old man failed me in a blizzard because I seemed to "struggle a little." He also claimed I was driving too fast despite going 15 miles an hour. Every licensed driver I spoke to thought that was completely normal. He did not provide any information on what the appropriate speed would be. The "struggling" aspect was simply due to roads that were not efficiently plowed, so yeah, of course the vehicle is not going to glide smoothly. He expected me to parallel park in what was essentially a mini snowbank. Ridiculous. There was no other reason he brought up to fail me, just the "struggling," which was not even elaborated upon. I would love to see the way he drove to the DMV that morning! I bet he "struggled a little" too!
The second cranky old man did not even have basic manners down. When I told him why I failed in the blizzard for going "too fast" at 15 mph, he just went, "well yeah, you have to drive slow in snow." Sooo you're not going to tell me what the appropriate speed was? How am I supposed to learn then? Now this is the only instance in which I agreed that I deserved to fail. I turned right onto a highway that I mistakenly thought had two lanes going the same direction while a car was coming from the left (it kind of appeared to have two lanes due to the width and some streaks from the snow, still my fault though). However, the nitpicking came from when he complained that my arms were "too crunched." I am very short, and I struggle to see the front end of my car along with the road directly in front of it, even with my seat as forward and as high up as it goes. I guess if you're short, just don't drive? Like I said, I did deserve to fail because of the mistake I mentioned, but the arms thing was just nitpicky.
The third instructor failed me because I turned right on a red light without stopping long enough. It was long enough to look for a no turn on red sign, turn my body to the left to check for traffic, see none, and slowly turn right. The test was about 2 minutes in, and she immediately ended the test on the spot, claiming I did not stop at all. The other issue was that I apparently went an inch or so over the crosswalk at a stop sign to check for traffic coming from the left, because my view was obstructed by parked cars. I was literally told by the last instructor that it was what you're supposed to do!
I highly recommend going elsewhere. They nitpick the smallest things, their demeanors are gruff, condescending, and clipped, and they make you feel 10x more anxious when you're already nervous. They don't even introduce themselves when you greet them, nor do they tell you to have a nice day back. They're clearly miserable people who hate the fact that they don't have the money to retire at their age, and take it out on younger people who are trying to get their license so they can move forward in life. It you're a minority or show up with one, or you're from a "liberal" city, don't expect to be treated with dignity. read more
