Coming in from out of town for 3 weeks, I wanted to still keep up with crossfitting because I didn't want hard work to go down the drain. Knowing that crossfit boxes are all about community, I reached out to Crossfit Synapse because of it's close proximity and gave them a try! They were AMAZING! Welcoming, helpful, warm, open, funny, charming, and pushed me like I haven't felt in a long long time! Here I was, a complete stranger, and they made me feel like I have been going there for years.
If you've ever crossfitted before, there is something very special about it. I think my favorite aspect of crossfit is its efficiency. I have been working out for years spending countless hours in the gym, but I was frustrated because I knew there had to be a better way to train. By constantly varying the movements at high intensity I am finally able to get many of the results I had been wanting. I have been crossfitting for 3 months now, and I don't ever want to stop. So even though I went away from my homebase Chicago box, I improved so much in just 3 short weeks.
I have a love/hate relationship with the competitive nature of crossfit. Sometimes I really enjoy the competitve outlet of CF, but I admit that I sometimes find it overkill. I am competitve by nature, but some days it is hard to find the drive to give everything everytime. Also, I am by nature internally self-critical of my performance. So my negative performances leave me with a lot more angst than the good feelings I get from my positive performances. So many days I leave the box with a chip on my shoulder which isn't really the feeling I strive to get from what I think should be a stress relieving outlet. But I have to balance those feelings with my belief that if you are going to do something you should do it right. So I am still searching for a way to be as good as I can be while finding more internal peace. I think I am much better than I was a month ago, but still not where I want to be. When I would get to this place, Daniel or Jimmy would instantly bring me back to peace. They would explain and settle me by explaining that sometimes WOD's aren't supposed to be finished completely, but it's about pushing yourself. They helped me with my most effective posture and movements to get the most bang for my buck.
Because of the small classes, as well, I want to also say that I learned so many movements that I don't think I would have so quickly with a larger group. It's coaching, it's learning, it's learning some more, it's coaching more, and the end result is to become a better you. That's what CF is all about at this box.
That being said, I think it is obvious but should be mentioned that the coaches and people make CF a place I want to go to daily and will alter my schedule as much as possible to get my daily fix. My time preference was 930. I will always feel part of the 930 class at Crossfit Synapse. Daniel and Jimmy know what they are doing and they have an amazing box! I can't wait to go back.
I also want to mention that with how much they pushed me, along with my previous CF WOD's...I was able to do my first nonbanded pullup. I haven't felt better about myself than what I do today. I am so thankful for all of the amazing help that these coaches offered me. read more
