The trainers, the equipment, the results- everything was excellent The trainers are very knowledgeable. I had never done CrossFit before and, while I had done weight training, rowing and kettlebell classes elsewhere, I was able to learn and grow as an athlete. If there were movements that were too advanced for my skillset, the trainers were able to help modify some of the more advanced movements so that over time I could achieve the advanced movement safely and correctly. The gym itself is fantastic. They just gave the Tribeca space a complete makeover and its great atmosphere to workout in. All the equipment is well maintained and cleaned regularly. Its a very safe and amazing space to workout. And thanks to the previous two things, I got some amazing results with which I am incredibly pleased. I lost 6% body fat which initially I thought was going to be pretty darn impossible to accomplish. But, with the help of my trainers in class and the diet plan that they gave me, I was able to crush my goals. My clothes are loose. I can see my abdominal muscles for the first time ever. Plus I have received quite a bit of notice from coworkers about my slimmer and trimmer build. It's been a major win This program was so worth it. If you are looking to up your fitness goals, give Willy B CrossFit Bowery or Tribeca a try.

Scam alert! I wish I…read moreread these reviews prior to signing up for the 6 week challenge. I was motivated and hopeful, especially due to prior positive crossfit experiences at other gyms and learned a big lesson about reading reviews first. To be clear: The 6 week challenge which is falsely advertised as free costs $632. If you lose 25 pounds they say you get your money back. Doing the math, this type of program endorses disordered exercise and eating. It's not healthy to lose that amount of weight in 6 weeks They exploit those that have unrealistic goals, financially. Personally, I am writing because I was supposed to start the 6 week challenge right before COVID and they continued to bill be throughout the gym closures. I explained that I would be willing to transfer the money I already paid into a regular membership following COVID and they refused. I called my credit card company since it is illegal to charge for a gym that is closed due to COVID. The credit card company advised to file a claim. They responded by calling collections. I am confident that the credit card company will handle this for me, but am sickened by these practices overall. Mostly, I am genuinely worried about the mental health of potential consumers in the future. The actual classes are extremely variable since the staff are not well trained. The staff themselves told me that they are not treated properly and that there are is little, inconsistent communication with management. It shows in the classes, and the workouts are not as effective as other crossfit programs I have done as a result.

My favorite part is that the coaches push you to work hard and will suggest harder/heavier exercise options - no ceiling here. The sessions are challenging but you will feel amazing afterwards. It is a great HIIT workout that mixes in a great variety of muscle work/building too - would recommend you doing the one-week trial and giving it a shot. Although its a class format, but typically if you feel that you need to take a small break or even go a tad slower - that is A-Okay!!! Trust me I am completely out of shape and I can totally keep up. Everyone at whatever level that they are ALL struggling through these classes and they definitely walk out of the class soaking wet from sweat! The class really promotes camaraderie and its of course if you feel like you can definitely slap hands! They take great COVID precautions by spraying down all the equipment in between classes, so definitely feel comfortable attending the class. I would say once the class starts, you might brush past folks to get to the next station, but everyone is checked to be vaccinated to participate! I feel very safe here and love the challenging workouts. It is worth the hefty price tag, but honestly, this is something that is actually worth the investment - in yourself! Give it a shot!

This review is so long overdue. I've been going to Surfset since 2016…read more Their work outs combine cardio, resistance, balance, yoga and pilates. If you are not an exercise junkie and want to take it easy as an intro, do Diana or Gail's classes. If you run, lift on a daily basis and consider yourself in great shape you can take Aaron's classes. Be aware Aaron's classes are tough. I would not bring newcomers who don't typically exercise to Aaron's even beginner classes bc they may get the wrong idea that all the classes are as hard as his. I love their positive attitudes, kind encouragement, and energy. They make exercise fun. Their studio is on the top floor so you get extra exercise pre post sessions! The studio is really clean and airy. They modified the studio over time and looks very cute and surfing inspired. They give you towels and you can refill your water bottles. The workouts are surf inspired so you can pretend you are on the water. I really go because I like them and want to support their business. Aaron and Diana work really hard and started their business from stratch. They used to lug 15+ giant surfboards to set up in their shared studio space from jersey city up 4 floors with Aaron having a shoulder injury. They are incredibly sweet, humble wonderful people who want you to feel great! Yes, it is expensive (anywhere from 25-35 per class, recommending that you buy in bulk packages) but you are going to it as a fun experience with your friends, comparable to soulcycle, flywheel, peloton, and think of it as an investment in your health. I bought packages and use them when I want to work out and catch up with friends in the east village. Also in the summertime, they go out to Long beach and do actual surf classes with skudin instructors. I've gone for 3 summers!

From outside, it may not look like much, but the door actually opens to several flights of stairs. The studio itself felt so cute and homey, with cubbies for your belongings, a coat rack, and a bathroom. I know I'm not athletic, but I really felt it here when I struggled just standing on the surfboard. The wobbling and instability was unlike any feeling ever, and will require some getting used to if you don't have good balance or hip mobility. Our instructor, Aaron, was the founder and a cool positive instructor. I loved that he took note of our names to give us shoutouts. But as soon as we started, his instructions were easier said than done, because I could not keep up for the life of me. I do wish there was slightly more personal attention or feedback throughout the class because he would constantly compliment everyone despite seeing me over there causing a ruckus. It took me the whole session to understand how the sensitive surfboard shifts according to my weight pressure. While the class was definitely not beginner friendly, even I was surprised by the improvement of everyone and myself by the end of the class. I truly think these tough exercises, if practiced frequently, will help us when surfing. This is probably the most challenging class I took so far, that it left me sore for days, but inspired to try actual surfing. If you're looking for a different type of workout class one day, check out Surfset!

I started with the Solido class which was amazing and targeted glutes and abs. It literally flew by and I was sweating! Next I tried Savage, which rotated between 4 minutes of different weight training and sculpting moves and then 4 minutes of treadmill work. Their treadmills have handy guides for athletic levels and intensity and the incline and speed are easily adjusted. I liked this class and according to my Apple Watch, burned a TON of calories here, although I do not recommend doing this class fasted as jumping back and forth and the starting and stopping from moves and sprints made me quite dizzy at times. This class was on the first floor. Finally, I tried a Tonic class, which was very weights focused and had active breaks in between the working portions. This class was on the lower level of the studio. Each class has an instructional video ahead of time and moves demoed on the screens the entire time with a timer for the moves and timers to show your progress in the class which I really appreciated. The music in every class I took was always super fun and a mix of EDM, hip hop and Latin music. They also offer a spin class I believe called Stride and a boxing class called Jab The studio itself is amazing with lots of neon lights to set the mood, plants, tons of reflective details in the locker rooms and on the lockers and gorgeous seating in the lobby. The lobby has a bar with tea, coffee, some waters and pre packaged protein drinks. I do wish they had more of a selection of pre and post workout choices but I'm sure those will come! They let me know soon they'll be offering alcohol as well and free wine if you take a class on Friday! You get a hand towel for class and if you want to use their showers, they provide towels. The bathrooms are gorgeous and have amenities provided. Some of the best studio showers I've been in with plenty of room to hang your toiletries. The staff was super polite and outgoing and everything was clean and tidy. They even have a clothing shop with unique and cute workout sets from a Latino owned brand. I can't say good things enough about this studio and hope they expand their class offerings!

Worked here for 2 years, went to work on some Saturdays during blizzard season and what happens?!…read moreThey basically ghost me! There is no respect for employees, checks bounced, and the CEO gets a temper when he's hungry like a big baby. I dedicated myself and sacrificed for this job, only for them to have me unknowingly train someone (who had a husband already working there) that would soon basically replace me (without me knowing) and to stop scheduling me all together with no conversation as to why. There was no formal termination, they just stopped contacting me like a bunch of foolish kids. Months later, I went back to inquire about a CPR certificate THEY REQUIRED months before I stopped working there that they never gave me and could not even keep their story straight about why I couldn't get it (said there's invoices to be paid, while an accountant said there isn't), I was upset and told them they should do something about it since they required it. I then heard back about by behavior being unprofessional, when for months I didn't hear a peep when I kept asking about my job standing. Their behavior was disgusting and despicable, they could've had a formal convo with me but no, they just left me hanging and acted like I was the bad guy when in reality they weren't providing the bare minimum (proper communication, checks that didn't bounce, and a required certificate they made me do)! I don't even think there was a real HR there, it's also a waste of money if there's other gyms such as lifetime fitness where it's basically the same price (maybe even slightly cheaper) with wayyyyyyy much more to offer compared to a little gym that has limited equipment.

One of La Palestra's core philosophies is Respect. As they state on their website, "We believe in…read morerespect; without it, nothing good can happen." Yet, they hire staff members who are frequently rude and abrasive to select gym members. Since they position La Palestra as a high-end gym, I don't think it's a lot to ask for "good to great" customer service. I'm not even demanding for excellent service; Just wanted enough to make its patrons feel that they are valued and respected. This negative review is pointed to one specific individual who works to maintain the cleanliness the La Palestra gym at 70 Pine Street. I didn't bother to ask for his name but he's the Latino guy who is in everybody's business. Rude. Disrespectful.
