Well, to say our experience was awful is a understatement.
It started off with the Daniel acting super annoyed that we were dropping in to check out the place while he was trying to wrap up a class and get our liability papers to fill out. Okay, I get it... you have to multi task. But we were excited, being patient, and in no hurry.
Then casually reads the warm up off the board and sends us on our way.
After our solo dynamic warm up we sit around as he guides us through some stretches... walk over to the white board for him to read the lifts.
After he sends the class on their way he pulls me and my two family members aside and kicks us out of class.Yep, if you ever wondered if you could get kicked out of crossfit for not being in shape enough, all the horror stories are true.
Now before you go on saying "it's because they're new" or "ONRAMP" is required." I would get and understand that completely HOWEVER there was NO forewarning that they required this at this gym. And no mention of it prior to class starting. We even informed the instructor that one of us had not done crossfit in a crossfit environment before.
As a coach myself I would NEVER humiliate ANYONE trying to better their lives like that in front of the class. Even other members asked why we were leaving so soon and we had to tell them we got kicked out. Daniel told us that the moves are "just too technical" for anyone who hasn't done crossfit before to be in class(it was backsquat day!). But isn't that what Crossfit is all about? Adaptable fitness? For ALL levels? Sounds like he is just a lazy instructor who just wanted to be there for liability reasons but not actually be there to help and teach. Based on how he went over the warm up and the workout(not engaging, giving any tips or details, and just reading the board as if he was annoyed) and the fact that there was not even 10 of us in class,I could say that is a good assumption. It's quite unfortunate for this gym because the one person that was not at the same fitness level as the other two of us was the one really excited to try crossfit, and they live super close so you would have had a new member. Instead you devastated us and brought my aunt to tears.
Hopefully my family members aren't too traumatized and will try crossfit again, at a good gym, with knowledgeable coaches who can teach "technical" moves and who are open to bettering the lives of everyone not just elite athletes.
Needless to say, don't go here. read more
