I want to share my disappointing experience with Randy, the owner of Metro Fitness. I moved In July…read moreand was committed to investing in my health before starting a really stressful job. In July, I purchased a $700 pass for 10 personal training sessions as part of a "summer special", with the promise that a master's-educated trainer would be available. Unfortunately, that trainer never started working at the gym, and I was not informed of this until late September--months after waiting and following up. Despite knowing my schedule, Randy repeatedly suggested trainers who were already fully booked. He then set me up with an unqualified intern who worked at the front desk. When I expressed my concerns, he acknowledged that this wasn't acceptable and offered Pilates as an alternative. However, that turned out to be another false promise, as no sessions or teachers were actually available. After months of back and forth and empty promises, I requested a refund, as it was clear I was not receiving the services I had paid for. Randy initially agreed but then delayed the refund, citing financial excuses like needing to wait until after the "metro gala." By November, I still hadn't received my money, and he stopped responding to my calls and texts entirely. Now it is mid January. This has been a frustrating and disheartening experience, especially as someone in a low-paying position after completing graduate school. I share this in hopes of warning others about this gym and Randy's business practices. If anyone has advice on handling situations like this, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. As an aside, I had a bad experience with a trainer there who was really creepy and asked extremely personal questions. Most of the gym is dedicated to the personal training space. There are never wipes or cleaning supplies convenient or restocked to clean equipment after use.

Douglas, my trainer, is pushing me the right amount to make a difference and I always leave feeling good about the work I've done and his partnership in my progress. Also it's just a great gym. It's a great place to focus on the workout but you always run into cheerful people that work there.

I froze my account last year and was charged for the next month. When I asked about it, instead of giving me a refund, they offered to give me a free month when I unfroze, which was strange, but I accepted. Once that was settled, I received confirmation that my account was frozen with the statement "UNFREEZE AT ANY TIME". Everything was seemingly fine. Fast-forward: I received numerous calls saying my payments were declined to Crunch Fitness, which I ignored because my account was frozen. Finally, I received a call from a "debt collector," which I found out was a fake debt collector and was just a scam to try and threaten me to pay not only my "missed payments" but even more to account for the late fees and costs of the "collector." I called Crunch to settle this, and they claimed that there was a time limit on how long you can freeze your account, which is not consistent with what was written in my email confirmation, and they claimed that I was given a free month and charged for five months from August - January, with no notification through email of my account being re-activated. I wasn't even in Syracuse during August, so I didn't even get to use my free month and I didn't end up ever unfreezing my account. Come to find out online, buried in the depths of a freezing policy statement, it says frozen status maxes out at twelve weeks. My account was frozen in July. That was only four weeks. Not only did they claim I could unfreeze it any time numerous times, they never mentioned anything of this policy, and they didn't even give me a frozen account for the full duration of this policy. I thought Brandon, the manager, made a mistake when he first "forgot" to freeze my account last year, but after my experience and reading several yelp reviews I realize that he did it on purpose to try to scam me just as he does with others. While the amount of money I supposedly owe them (when in reality they owe me for a month) is not a terribly high amount, I've read cases on Yelp of people being robbed of up to thousands of dollars. Save your wallets. Calling the other day, the manager claimed they went under new management, and the old management messed up a lot, which was why my account was initially not frozen, leading to this whole thing, but upon further research, the manager is, in fact, still Brandon. This was a small lie that was told to me, which has little implication on all the events that went down, but showed me that no one can trust them. There is a high likelihood that a bot replies to this saying thank you for your concern, we appreciate your feedback and will be sure that this never happens again, meanwhile it has been happening at Crunch since the dinosaurs went extinct with no change. One last thing: they advertise prices of $15.99/month but then slap on an annual fee for "upkeep of gym equipment," which is whatever. Then, when you check your bank statements every month, you are being charged $17.99. I have had bad experiences with gyms before, but none for reasons that come anything close to this. Go literally anywhere else. I don't care how desperate you are to lift weights. It's not worth it.

We easily made our workout reservation through the Orangetheory App and followed up with a phone call to ensure our place in the class. We were told to arrive a little earlier to get a tour of their studio. Parking is really plentiful in this lot, next to a Nature-Tyme and petco. It is much different and larger than ours, with a couple of showers (and sign up boards for the showers), a locker room with locks and a coat room (we don't see coat rooms in So Cal). Towels were available for purchase for $10 each (double the cost than our Tustin location). We signed waivers and grabbed a treadmill card, awaiting class. The day we went you could test out Reebox shoes during your class for purchase later. Hannah was our coach for the hour and she was great! She explained the goal of 12+ splat points and the exercises and switches. I loved the layout of this studio--staggered weight stations so no one was in anyone's way, though not sure how that works on TRX days. She motivated throughout the class and played great music. The hour was a fantastic workout with a 35 point splat day for me! I don't expect to be back in Syracuse in the foreseeable future but if you can take a class here, do it! It's really great!
