TLDR: it works! Try it!…read more CrossFit saved my life. I was in the midst of a divorce and had lost 50 pounds due to stress. I worked from a desk, and was a couch potato at night that couldn't bench press my own body weight. I was on sleeping pills, anti-depressants and was not eating. Mike encouraged me to stop by and try a class. So I did! It was a small class. I think there were 3 of us, and I had brought a friend! Brian was the instructor. He had a quiet, calm voice. He asked to look at my gait, and what sports I'd played, while he probably sized up how hard he could push me. :) I remember being a little sore after class that day but I came back. And it was after one of those first week's classes that I remember driving home happy! I was staying with friends and I burst into the kitchen smiling from ear to ear as they were getting ready for the day. Endorphins! And I was hooked. I had been a member of many gyms. Mostly for less than a year. The habit never stuck. Gyms don't give personalized instruction every day, nor do the members cheer you on and congratulate you after a workout. Gyms don't have a long term plan or program. Mike does! This sh*t works. I gained the 50 lbs back. I lifted 400 lbs. I did a muscle up! My advice to you is to try it. Pay for a month. If you like it, you will wonder why you didn't go sooner. If you don't like it, you might like the people and coaches and make some friends.

When it comes to choosing, the opinion of someone you know tends to be the best way to go. I cannot say enough good things about the experience we have had with Crossfit Prototype/ Prototype Kids. The entire Team here is amazing. They are knowledgeable and careful. They know how to motivate and how to engage children of any age, and the best part, they tire out the child in a single session. The options are simple, pay for unlimited classes or go the punch card route. At the end of the day, it costs no more than most kids activities. If you haven't done it yet, check out their Facebook Page and website. Better yet, bring your child there for a class, they give the first one for free. So no harm, no foul if they find it isn't for them.

Incredible coaching and staff, the Marlborough location provides a luxury experience like a Barry Bootcamp or Soul Cycle but without the prices.

Updated review: The studio has since been purchased by a…read moreholding company whose main concern is new members versus retaining current ones. As a result, there's a mass exodus of members leaving, losing talented coaches (and lying about them), especially bad turn over of front desk personnel, and 4 managers in the last year, each one worse than the last. The current manager is probably the most unprofessional of all of them, I've never seen so much gossip and drama before her arrival. I chose to cancel my membership at the gym via a private email with her, and when she asked my reasoning, that email was then shared with everyone who was currently on the clock in studio, which of course then got back to me. Highly unprofessional and an invasion of privacy in my opinion. Aside from fitness, a huge focus and pro of this studio was the community, with the Facebook group being the main outlet for that. However, with new management and a new head coach, information is now hidden, people are silenced, posts are censored, comments are removed and shut off. The lack of transparency is off putting and leads to more gossip. I want to workout at my gym and feel welcomed by the community, not hear that the manager and head coach are gossiping about other employees and members and feel uncomfortable in the same community I once loved. Additionally, it just sounds like bad economics to be concerned with new membership at the cost of losing current members and coaches. It's more expensive to gain new customers than retain current ones, especially when people who love their gyms encourage new memberships via their own word of mouth. With the new year comes many people interested in joining gyms, and those people often choose to ask their friends where to go. I've had multiple friends ask to come to this studio with me to try it out in the last month, and I told all of them to try somewhere else. I signed up for a new gym in the area and other members of this OTF have followed suit. You guys made a big mistake. Huge. Edited to add: I was really proud of my accomplishments and recently let a girl at the front desk know I had lost 25 lbs. her response was, "25 down, 25 to go!" I was gutted, but just smiled and walked away. If I lose another 25 I would be underweight. But I guess that lines up well with the new image they have. It used to be more diverse, encouraging, and welcoming. I'm just so disappointed.
