I was always hesitant to sign up for CrossFit being a smaller framed, linguini-armed individual,…read morewho jogs, can complete 8 push-ups in one set, and the largest weight I ever attempted to pick up was the gallon of skim milk in the fridge. To be clear, the gallon of milk was not picked up due to its weight, it was instead shoved with mighty force to make way for the all important Go-Gurt. Once I built up the confidence to try it out I was shocked that Caldwell CrossFit (CC) is not home to only large, no shirt-wearing macho men who judge all if they can't bench 350 lbs, complete 25 pull-ups and had Jesus himself chisel their bodies. There were other 'regular' people in there! The community is supportive of all who walk through the door and the Staff are incredible. If you're truly serious about getting fit, and not just having a fancy key ring that shows that you're signed up for a gym this is the place to go. Of course it's more expensive than a regular gym, but with it you get ~2 weeks of one-on-one with a trainer to familiarize yourself with the exercises needed, you will never have to wait for weights, you have a personal coach teaching each class encouraging you and giving you pointers, and if you want, you can stay in the gym after class to work on other things. You get what you pay for, people. I am just warning all who have read this far into this post: You're going to be working hard in classes. If you want to putz around the gym in your Lululemon gear, wearing make-up and not breaking a sweat do yourself a favor and don't sign up for CC. **Spoiler Alert (not really spoiling anything & not a spoiler alert): Getting fit is NOT easy and requires hard work.** If you're serious about getting fit and live in the area this is the place to go to. The trainers are second to none, it's clean and it definitely motivates you to come back as often as you can.

Simply walking my dog was painful at times, and I had not been able to do any activity for several months. Thanks to his willingness to help and dedication to me personally, I have been improved beyond what even physical therapy could offer. I did not think I would be able to exercise ever again. Since working with Craig privately, I am now attending crossfit classes 3-4 times a week, and experiencing less and less knee pain, all while improving strength and skill. I started out as a person who was "afraid" of crossfit and gyms. Now I feel that I have a place that I truly fit in. Every coach and staff member is welcoming and helpful, and not intimidating in any way. Every skill level is welcome at this gym, and they even offer different types of classes to fit your needs. I am very thankful to have found Crossfit Caldwell.

His other instructor, Kate, has classes that are similar but mix is different: more aerobic and with strength mixed in. What I like is coed group classes are scheduled daily, last 1 hour, and always intense. Sometimes I learn new muscle groups I didn't know I had :) Each day's routine barely repeats from a prior day so never boring. The workout begins with a warmup followed by about 8 exercise routines. Repeat those exercises as many times as you can in 1 hour. Target is about three cycles. I generally complete 1 1/2 - 2 sets. Joe' routines emphasize modest weights with repetition, stretch, balance, and good technique. He spots when a particular exercise is unsuitable for me, and suggests something else without losing the pace of the workout. I value the personal attention in a group setting that keeps cost down. Clientele is mostly female, older Generation Z and Millennials of all ages. Male and female, every age, and all degrees of fitness are welcome. Clientele is generally serious about being there. Gym is clean. And classes start and end on time. You don't make an appointment to be in a class. I recommend Joe and JD Core Training.

I even tried a new up-and-coming Crossfit Gym in Parsippany. I loved the idea of the cross fit workouts. For someone who wasn't too active in a gym environment, I liked the concept. I ended up leaving that gym because of the Paleo lifestyle being shoved down my throat. I joined a Planet Fitness, But I wanted more cross fit! The big PF gym was boring, and I was wasting my money. After moving to East Hanover, I found a box right down the street, called Pump Crossfit & Performance. I was more than happy that Paleo isn't their main idea, and that they really listened to your needs, and worked on your level. The class times are great, and works well with my work schedule. Becca is a wonderful instructor, who know her stuff. I am taking the new Mommy Bootcamp class on Mondays, and I LOVE it. I work out with two other women, and Becca is able to tailor the workout for each of us individually, as we are all on different levels of experience. She never skips a beat, and the hour goes smoothly. When I leave Pump, I feel invigorated, and excited to come back. Becca always answers my questions thoroughly, and even gives me advice on home workouts when I can't make it in. It is really amazing how quickly my muscle is building, and I am becoming more comfortable in my own skin. I would highly recommend Pump to anyone who is ready to change their life, and get healthy. it's a friendly atmosphere, with professional trainers, and located conveniently.

I have always worked out at the NYSC's of the world on my own but never got the results that I was looking for. I was looking for an experience where I could learn the proper way to train and challenge myself both mentally and physically. I definitely found the right place. It has been far and away the best training experience that I have ever been a part of. I have seen tremendous gains in strength, endurance, stamina and confidence and I look forward to going there every day. Scott Paltos has a tremendous wealth of knowledge in multiple training areas like track and field, gymnastics, weightlifting and strongman (also nutrition) and fosters a great team environment at the gym. Scott has the uncanny ability to train to ones strengths and weakness to help uncover one's untapped potential. Every workout is programmed differently so you will never do the same workout twice and you won't fall into any ruts. The entire staff of Dana, Becca, Mackenzie are all first class athletes, who are very knowledgeable and just good down to earth people! It's a fun place to train but you will work hard and you will "move weight" as Scott likes to say. Pump Crossfit and Performance has a broad range of members that cross all types of age and skill ranges (they even have separate classes for kids and another set for moms looking for something different) . The people that I have met in my time there are all very welcoming, friendly and willing to support everyone else in the box. Scott runs the gym as a family and its a great place to train. They offer training times at 6,7 and 9 am, 11am/12pm and 6 and 7pm on most days so you have many different opportunties to tailor classes around your schedule. Whether you are looking to join in competitions, to challenge yourself mentally/physically, to build your core strength or to just lose some weight.... this is the right place. I highly recommend giving it a shot!

Parsippany is my main location that collects my payment. But as of recent I think it's time to move on from this gym facility. Bad enough the sauna is always not working, the rest rooms are always nasty. They don't carry towels for purchase. They run out of preworkout. The females that are upstairs watching the children aren't on the friendly side. But even after all of this I still pay my membership fee, purchase water, preworkout and at times try to purchase towels because I'm always on the go for work. But today took the cake.... The female is the kids room called and said my child wanted to leave. This call came 10 minutes before she was about to close. So I decided to to take my child with me I was finishing my workout ( which I have to complete my workout because I'm a Diabetic and my life depends on my schedule) I sat my child out of the way, right in front of me. I was working out and the employee walks over and tell me I have to leave because I have my child with me. I looked that them and tried to tell them I will just let me finish my last 2 sets. She then insisted on me leaving, in which I said "ok" very angered because every situation is different. But for them to always be pushy about th time for the kids to leave and giving us a. 2 hour time limit for you to take your child and leave. This isn't professional or considerate because pushing people to hurry their workout up or else they have to go. Especially since according to the human body for a diabetic it takes at least 35/45 minutes during/after cardio for there sugar levels to stabilize/drop to normal which would possibly leave me a hour left to workout which isn't enough time. As I have paid for other day gym passes and have had my child with me, they extended the opportunity to me just as long as I took responsibility for her and she stayed out of the way especially since my disability seems I need to workout extensively ( which is stretching, loosening up my shoulder joints and left foot since I've had serious surgery on those parts of my body) Folks I say all this to say unless this place becomes more kid friendly ( kids room open longer for parents) or make sure inventory is full at all times. I will be taking my money elsewhere and you should too! It isn't disability friendly or really kid friendly.
