Stopped in for a workout while back in town. Great trainer who was supportive but also pushed you to workout. Highly recommend.

Man oh man! This is…read morea long overdue, much needed review. My husband and I went to GetFitStudio back in 2019. I unfortunately had to abruptly stop my training sessions because I was accepted into a Masters program and had to prioritize budgeting for school. It's (clearly) now 2022 and my husband and I have since moved to California... But we can still say and strongly recommend GetFitStudio to anyone in the area. I have had other trainers since training with Boris and my husband and I can confidently say Boris was the best personal trainer we had. We had customized training sessions to our own body types, Boris got us to cut weight and gain muscle so fast .... Going 3x a week. We were admittedly not the best at dieting but looking back now.. it was so crazy cool how Boris got us to be so fit. If we can clone a Boris out here in California we would.... But anyways, I figured I'd leave a note here saying how awesome this gym was and how much we miss Boris. So Boris if you see this, Uriah and Eric miss you a ton! You too Carlo! But yes if you're looking for a gym - this place is it.

I tried the Iron Circuit class at GetFit Studio in Alexandria today and honestly had a pretty…read morefrustrating experience. When I first arrived, the front door was locked. I walked around the building trying to see if I was in the wrong place or if anyone was inside, but I couldn't find anyone. After waiting a few minutes, I called the studio and no one picked up. I went back to the front, and eventually a guy opened the door for me but when I mentioned it was locked, he said it wasn't, which was confusing and didn't sit right. The class ended up being just me, which already made the energy feel kind of off. It was set up as a circuit with eight exercises and four laps. The warm-up alone was three rounds, and I was honestly exhausted by the second round. I told the coach that, but he kept pushing me to finish the last round anyway. I get that coaching involves encouragement, but it felt more like pressure than support. The overall vibe of the class was pretty dull and unmotivating. I'm not sure if it was because I was the only one there, but there was no energy or effort to make the session engaging. I completed three out of the four rounds and told him I didn't have it in me to do the last one. His response was basically, "So you're just going to leave early then?" which came off dismissive and a bit rude. At that point, I was already drained and over it. On top of that, the cleanliness didn't inspire confidence. The shower supplies looked really neglected, residue buildup, cloudy containers, and just generally not something you'd feel comfortable using. It added to the overall impression that the space isn't being maintained as well as it should be. Between the confusing entry situation, lack of responsiveness, the coach's off-putting attitude, and the condition of the facilities, this just wasn't a great experience. I don't see myself coming back.

This was such a loaded experience. As someone who frequents many small studios like this in various…read moreparts of the DMV, especially the V, I definitely have my likes and dislikes. Likes: Anna-Maria, the instructor, was very sweet. She was warm and welcoming, very encouraging throughout the workout, and had an interesting playlist. It was also a pretty good workout with the core/upper body sections being better than others. Format: Surge Strength. It was very much a "lift to the music" while bringing in cardio elements workout. I like having music blaring but being on beat (or striving to be) annoys me because you're pressured to break form and not move meaningfully. I probably looked crazy, but I was seconds behind the other people in class because I wanted to actually lift, not swing my arms around. Also, some of the moves (mostly lower body), when moving that quickly, just don't target the areas I want to strengthen meaningfully. For some moves, I'd opt for slower, more controlled, classic moves so I could get it right. We were using "light to heavy" dumbbells - I think the highest is 15 pounds. Also, the "stop, grab your mat, unfold, and do floor work for a couple minutes" thing was kind of disorienting at times. Facilities/equipment: this is my second biggest gripe. While it looked mostly visibly clean, the floors were dirty AF, covered in stringy hairs. Ew. During the floor sections, I could see hair and other debris on the floor and it would even get on me if any part of me even slightly came off the mat, or hairs would be hanging from my weights when I picked them up.yuckkk. Also, the mats were funky. Very clear that they rely on folks doing the one-wipe swipe after sweaty workouts for cleaning and that's gross. They don't have a water cooler or even a cool Flow Water station or anything - they have two water fountains that are relatively low pressure. And they're connected, so only one works at a time. And they looked a little dusty. Vibe: It's a no for me, dawg. Outside of Anna-Maria, there was like NO diversity in the room (maybe one Asian woman in the front) which feels VERY WEIRD when the playlist is VERY Black with a little Brown sprinkled in. On top of that, the women in there were stuck up and some were, frankly, obnoxious. I got multiple stares (Yes, I'm Black! OMG lol) and when I was attempting to fill my water at the ratchet fountain, before I knew they were connected, this one white studio member, in such a condescending way, was like, "hi, yeah, they're actually connected, so..." Girl, bye. Oh, that brings me to another point: It was my first time at that location. I checked in and received no orientation/guidance from the girl at the front desk. I ended up entering the studio room and, thankfully, Anna-Maria was able to help me get set up. I think the girl at the front desk heard me receiving instructions and ran in just as the workout was about to start and apologized for not introducing me to things. But it was very much an afterthought and if I was someone who was super anxious or thrown off by stuff like that, I would've left. Oh, and it's def the type of place where the same people show up for the same classes (or multiple) regularly. To be honest, I disliked the vibe so much initially, I considered leaving like five minutes into the workout. But a player has goals, so I stayed. It seemed pretty clear who this space is intended for. And I've pretty much NEVER felt that way before, even when working out in tiny studios in places like Del Ray and Loudoun. I was less uncomfy towards the end, but initial impression plus hair: ew. You'll get a cute workout in but this vibe? Not for me.

We stayed in Downtown Alexandria and the gym was around 15 mins away (walking). Such a great cute little women's studio. We did the Bosu class and it kicked our butts. The instructor made sure we had the right form and led a fast paced high intensity class. Would definitely recommend! Please note - there's only one bathroom for the studio which includes a shower.

I found DivaDance in a random Google search of dance classes in the area, and my expectations have been absolutely surpassed in every sense. DivaDance is such a wonderful community, and every class is such a comfortable and judgement free zone (which is important when you are throwing it down and shamelessly trying new moves & choreo). DivaDance has been amazing for my work-life balance, and for pushing my homebody self to step away from my computer, get moving / trick my body into exercising, and meet new people!! As a side note, DivaDance classes always feature really amazing & wonderful women, as a woman in STEM I don't see a small number in my daily life, so dance has always been my favorite way to meet more diverse sets of people, and DivaDance has certainly been a great source of this in my life since they value empowerment and confidence.

The music selection was great (think upbeat, fun, and kept you moving), and the coach was genuinely warm and welcoming when I walked in. If you're looking to switch up your routine or try something different, it definitely checks that box. That said, a few things didn't quite land for me. The space is very small and boutique, which is cozy in one sense, but also felt a bit cramped once the class started. I've been Olympic lifting for about two years now, and I noticed one person struggling with their front rack squat form. I didn't feel comfortable stepping in as a newcomer, and it was tough watching the coach not address or correct it. Form matters for safety, especially when we're working under load, so that was a concern for me. Also, the class flow was guided by a single small screen with a timer, and the alert to switch stations was super faint. I found myself constantly glancing around to make sure I wasn't missing transitions because I couldn't really hear the cue. Overall, I loved the idea of the class and the friendliness of the coach, but I would have appreciated more coaching engagement, motivation, and attention to form, especially given the style of training. I think with a bit more hands-on guidance and clearer structure, this class could be a really great experience.

Today, I had the unfortunate experience of having to speak to Sarina (or Sabina - couldn't really hear), Victor, and, finally, Ranya (I think there are two here so not sure which one this is) about an issue they refused to resolve. I only like CS4 with certain instructors. At the last minute, they added a sub to the CS4 schedule. I didn't want take class with that sub. They're better for other formats. So, I call to ask to be removed from the class. Apparently, it's a problem. Long story, short: they wouldn't remove me because they still offer the class and I called within the 12 hours. But y'all changed the schedule with less than 12 hours of notice? Like... I continue to be floored by the behaviors and actions of the managers/supervisors here. They're so inconsistent. There was a tornado warning and inclement weather earlier this year and they were like, "well, we're open so if you cancel within 12 hours, you'll be charged." Luckily, he was flexible and let me come at the end of March. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Isaac, who was extremely friendly and informative. We went through the entire walk through, and on my 2nd visit, he went over the prices. The only thing I didn't like is that they take down all the information from our Driver's License even if it's just a trial. Since this is considered a boutique gym, the classes are the main focus and driver for memberships. They get crazy busy and packed, but are only held at certain times of the day..and not Friday evenings. The classes include (but with different names): yoga, boxing, cycling and CS4. I was only able take one class--Ride with Lauren--and WOW it was fun and vibrant! I came back another day for leg day to try out the equipment. I was very fascinated by the TechnoGym equipment--beautiful, unique machines and all in pristine condition. There were SO MANY options for upper, lower, cardio, etc. Additionally, there is a separate cross fit area, where they hold classes and it is open to members. There is a recovery section, which includes compression sleeves, cryotherapy and massage chairs, which are convenient but I believe separate from the monthly gym membership. Also, there is a spa, whcih is definitely 3rd party and not included in the monthly membership. There is 2 hour parking available in the garage, which is validated at the front desk.
