Picked up a used 1998 Honda Shadow ACE with low miles and low price but also a fair amount of rust from being parked in Pacifica. Carlo picked up right away when I called and answered all my questions and suggested what to do on an 18 year old bike with low miles: clean/sync carbs, adjust valves, replace oil/coolant/brake fluids, inspect most everything, new tires, etc. All his suggestions matched what the helpful people on 750ace.com said. He offered a 5 hour rate of $395 (plus parts) to get most of that done, plus $125 to replace both tires (I provided the tires and tubes). After cleaning the rust and fixing some minor things myself, I rode it a few miles to Crosstown (literal for me coming from Brown's Valley).
Dropped off the bike and the parts he'd help me source to save some money and time. He confirmed the plan and gave a more specific quote for the work (I'd added a few things to install like clutch springs). Ended up with labor cost of a bit under $600 for what I expected to cost $800. He had a few bikes ahead of mine to work on so we agreed to talk the following week about progress and any issues/changes. He stayed in touch and worked quickly getting my approval before any changes in the plan.
Picked up a week later to find everything done VERY well plus he ordered a few small parts for me to install myself when they arrived later ... saving me the trouble of looking them up and ordering plus saving the cost of the labor he knew I could do on my own. His son helped with some parts and with answering the phone, he was great. He pushes toward OEM rather than custom with is consistent with my approach, but he's happy to do custom or aftermarket stuff as well.
Overall I recommend Cross Town without hesitation. He's an enthusiast, supports the local rider community including Star International and others, and the work was done VERY well at a reasonable cost. I'll be back for anything I can't do on my own and for him to check my work on future projects. read more
