I thought I had a problem with the electrical wiring to my hot tub and called these folks. Cathy answered the phone and asked me to describe the problem. Turned out Doug was on a field call and she politely told me that he would call me back later that evening. As promised, Doug called me back and asked me a few questions before asking me to go check the GFCI breaker. I mentioned that I had already checked it, but he explained to me that I had to first push the GFCI breaker switch all the way to the left before I turned it back on. It turned out that that was the problem all along! The fact that he helped me over the phone and did in a very friendly manner was good enough for five stars. I have had to call in an electrician twice since we bought this 26 year old construction house. The first time we had a short in one of the BRs and we found someone from Cragis List to do the work, but what ever he did only lasted 3 weeks before the same problem appeared again. We gave the guy a second shot, but when that circuit went out a few months for the third time, we called Cross Electrical. They gave us a fair estimate and did the job RIGHT! We have not had any problems with that circuit since. Another time the tube lights in the garage were out and I checked all the circuit breakers, finally called Cross again. They came over promptly and in two minutes he discovered that one of the GPC outlets had tripped and set it right with a push of a button. Duhhh!! I was in desperate need of an HONEST, reliable licensed electrician. I checked out the reviews on Yelp and decided to give Cross Electrical a call. We have used Cross Electric for several projects, the latest being outside lighting. We were unsure of what kind of lighting would suit our needs for backyard entertaining. These guys are very honest and professional. I called them because a few electrical sockets in my house stopped working all of a sudden last week. The person on the phone. (Cathy was her name I think), asked me about the problem. She said she will help me trouble shoot - asked me to reset my GFI switch, then walked me through the tripped circuit breaker. Then told me the most likely cause could have been a space heater (and indeed it was a week ago, when I had plugged in a space heater in the garage). The best part is that she said the charge would be zero. This was honest. She could have send some one over, and charged me just for showing up. That told me they are an honest business. I decided I had to pay back in some kind, and asked her if they would do some minor repair work. She said yes, they can charge hourly and fix it. The hourly charges quoted were reasonable. So I asked for that service. Doug showed up on the time promised. Was very courteous and professional. I had a couple sockets that were stock, one bulb that was fused in place, and I wanted to get a couple sockets replaced with modern motion detection. I also wanted to get a couple smoke detector/Carbon monoxide alarms done. It was fast and painless. I had spare parts that I had purchased from Home Depot. But I forgot the face plates for a couple switches. He was nice enough to bring it from his own truck supply (and did not charge me for it). These guys are very honest and professional. Cross came to our house to do several small projects, all of which were finished in one day. These included - Adding a new outlet box and switch in the attic; - Adding a new attic fan; - Replacing a decrepit, non-functioning outdoor outlet out on the patio with a fully-weatherproofed one; - Checking all the grounds in the house and fixing several that had gone bad over time or were incompletely wired by a remodeler a few years ago; - Checking out some "mystery wiring" left unfinished by a previous homeowner to confirm that no part of it was actually energized. We note that this list included some work in really nasty parts of the house, both in the shallow crawlspace below and in the hot, difficult-to-maneuver attic. I was a little skeptical because I had never seen reviews like theirs on Yelp for anyone. I contacted Kathy at Cross Electrical (she is a pleasure to talk with), and made an appointment for Doug to come out and review my problem (I had a minor problem for the past four years, which had suddenly become a major problem). Joe came out we went through what I needed, several non working outlets, adding a 240 outlet and to fix a strange porch light/outlet configuration (done by the previous owner). Joe and his team were able to complete all but the 240 outlet the same day - not their fault I needed to decide on the type of plug I needed. They came back one week later and put in the dedicated 240 outlet. Joe and his team were fast, efficient and nice. They kept the work areas clean but the most important thing - they did great work. I got thinking about grounding outlets for HDTV, Blu-Ray player, computer etc. in my 48 year old house. Called a few electricians and decided to go with Cross Electrical. I was looking for any certified electrician in the Fremont area to add a 220V outlet to my kitchen. I read most of the electrician Yelp reviews but was passing up on Cross Electrical since their reviews were all 5 stars and they might be expensive. So I tried calling a handful of the 4 and 3 stars electricians but they all charge travel fees of $89 dollars to just give quote. One of them other companies waived the travel fee so that they can come out and give me an estimate. The electrician came and quoted me a $1000+ dollars to install two 50 amp breakers and a junction box. Finally, I just gave Cross Electrical a try because I was getting nowhere in my search. When I called Cross Electrical, Kathy picked up the phone and she was just upfront and said that it can cost me around $450 dollars. She said however that it may be $550 depending on the oven wattage requirement, how difficult my crawl space, and the distance from breaker to kitchen is. Doug and Jerry showed up at my door on time for my 7:00 am appointment a few days later. That alone was impressive since I had to go to work that morning at 10 am. Doug surveyed the house and said that they can do it for $450. I could have sworn that these brothers are some kind of church ministers because of their demeanor. There are still a lot of good people in this world and Kathy, Doug, and Jerry are one of them. Bottom line is that I was very happy with Cross Electrical. They did a great job in adding a circuit breaker for my oven. They came on time to their appointments and were just straightforward when it comes to their pricing. They installed the junction box to my oven but my oven was not there so they came back another day to hook up my oven to the junction box. I highly recommend these guys. Very easy and fast response with Cathleen on initial set up including all the different changes on "our part". She was very patient with me. It is a family business and all I can say it is a professional, very very knowledgeable, honest, friendly, and compassionate company. It was very good to see Doug again, and be introduced to Jerry (Doug's Brother) & Rolando (Rolo). We were referred to them a few years ago by "PGE" when my husband noticed that the main circuit breaker panel had strange arching noice. Doug came out to replace and fix the issue immediately, we were impressed. He did an excellent job. We live in an old 50's home and the past owner did some really strange & challenging things to the wirings on the kitchen socket and bathroom exhaust fan.
