Ask the Community - Cross Creek Stables

Hi my name is Jazzmine Vasek I am wondering if it is free, and how old do you have to be able to ride horses I am 14 in a half years old?

Hi!! I have been riding at Cross Creek Stables for a couple years now, and I also show here at the farm and off the farm in Texas and other states!! I'd love to answer your question. Unfortunately, no they are not free. For each private lesson it is… Read more

I needed a good barn which would teach my daughter everything she needed to know and be safe doing it.

Thank you for your response. I understand your policy and acknowledge that we arrived later than intended. However, the issue is not just timing... it is how your business handled the situation. When I called, the interaction was rude, dismissive, and ended with your staff hanging up while we were still trying to communicate, only minutes away. That is unprofessional and unacceptable. There was no effort to show basic courtesy, offer alternatives, or handle the situation respectfully... only a refusal and loss of payment. Policies do not justify poor customer service. If this is how customers are treated, it will impact your reputation over time. People pay attention to how they're treated, and they share those experiences. I stand by my experience and believe others deserve to be aware before booking.

We have zero experience with the animals or work involved in this industry. Our family has member with quadriplegia (wheelchair bound) that desired to ride a horse for Christmas. Cottonwood Creek Ranch was not only up for the task, they were excited to share in the experience -- providing therapy thru horse riding. Despite the wicked cold (4 degree Fahrenheit with 30 mph winds and snow), the staff came out in full force with the sweetest horse to help our physically limited family member get on that horse and ride around the barn. The pictures speak volumes. I highly recommend for all novice horse enthusiasts. The professionalism and friendliness of this establishment is worth investigating.

You can pay for riding lessons here given in a massive indoor practice facility. They even do birthday parties for the younglings. Prices are average for what they do, but it's definitely a pricey hobby/sport. One thing is for sure, the family here are good people and they hire quality workers that really care. If you are prepared to dedicate your time and money, or need a place to keep your horse, this place is as good as any around. Also they live on property making it very accessible.

We enrolled our kindergartener in beginner horseback riding lessons at Champion Farms in Spencer…read moreand were initially encouraged by the structured teaching style. The facility is also top notch! Unfortunately, our third and final lesson was extremely concerning. During the lesson, the instructor was often several yards away on her phone while my child was mounted near an open gate leading toward the road. When the horse began moving, my father had to step in to prevent it from walking into traffic. Later, the instructor screamed at my child to back the horse -- a skill she hadn't yet been taught -- and yelled that "I don't know isn't an acceptable answer." She ended the lesson, saying she wasn't dealing with this on her dime, and told my daughter to dismount. My child dismounted in the middle of a field, visibly upset, and was then called a "sissy who needs to fall off her bike and scrape her knee a couple times." Throughout the incident, raised voices were directed at my child, my father, and myself. Afterward, I received an apology regarding how my father was treated, with a comment that he was "there to watch, not interfere," despite the safety issue that required his intervention. There was no acknowledgment of how my child had been treated. While I respect firm instruction, safety and respectful communication are just as important for very young riders. We chose not to continue lessons. I hope this was a unique experience, but I share it so families can make informed decisions about what environment feels safe and appropriate for their children.
