Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy - My daughters were involved with BCGA's girls AAU Xcel team for 5 years... Don't expect them to care if you have concerns.

My daughters have been involved with BCGA's girls AAU Xcel team for 5 years and after the second…read moreyear it became a revolving door of coaches, so the girls on the team haven't had any stability in the realm of coaching for the last 3 seasons. Well, this year the coaches they brought in hit an all-time low, to the point they sucked all of the love of the sport out of my daughter that has loved doing gymnastics with her teammates for years now. I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. Our daughter and the rest of the team were told that they needed to come up with their own beam routines, while the coaches didn't even make sure all the skills that they needed for the event were in their routines. Many of the girls completely bombed the beam event at their first meet (which was at BCGA), then the coaches got angry at the team for not doing well at the event. The two female coaches they had this year consistently looked for any excuse they could find to cancel practice, when practice wasn't cancelled, they didn't work on developing or fine-tuning the girls' skills instead they worked on breaking down the girls' spirits by calling them pathetic and getting in their faces at the drop of a hat. The one male coach the team had was the best at developing the girls' skills, but he thought it was appropriate talk to them about their periods and had other inappropriate behaviors. He was removed from the gym after an incident with another team, so that it the caliber of people that this organization feels is okay to hire to train your kids. If you want your girls to enjoy gymnastics, then find another gym. My daughters have both quit gymnastics now and it is in no small part due to the way this gym is being run. Again, I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. So, after getting tired of my daughter being upset to the point of tears after 90% of her practices, I addressed the coaches myself. I will admit that I could've been more tactful when I approached the coaches, but here is what I said to the team's "head coach." I said, "Since you want to talk about the team being pathetic in front of the girls, you should know that the performance of the team is a reflection of their coaches," I then said, "You're a shit coach." After that the other coach scoffed and I left the gym. They then kicked my daughter off the team because of me addressing the coaches, and they said she was lying about everything despite several of the other girls talking with her on the phone about the things the coaches have been saying to them and how it's making them feel. I do wish I would've approached this situation differently, but due to an overwhelming amount of frustration at both the coaches and senior staff of BCGA, I addressed the problem that they were not handling. This organization does not care about the well-being of your girls or even that they are developing their gymnastics skills, all of that went out the door a long time ago. Your AAU girls are just numbers and paychecks for this place. This is not to say anything against Bart Conner himself, because he is not involved with most of the day-to-day work going on at the gym. The few interactions I have had with him have been pleasant and he seems like a very down-to-earth kind of guy. However, the people running the gym are dragging his name through the mud.

We loved Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy. My son started classes with Little Team at age 3 years. We…read morehave spent nice 4 years with our couchers and reached 3rd level in the sport team. It was a great experience. My kid learn a lot and improved his strength and communication skills. He tried himself in professional sports. And we are grateful to all the people who have supported us during this time. For parents who only starting to step up into gymnastics, I recommend planning it in advance. Usually, classes are full, and it is difficult to find a free spot for your kid.

Was looking for a new gym in Edmond and this was not it. The bathrooms smelt like something died in…read morethem and half of the toilets either didn't work or were backed up. No one wiped down or cleaned any machine after any use and I never saw an employee clean any piece of equipment. Watched multiple gym goers walk barefoot in and out of the restroom back onto the gym floor. Lastly as the owner is a female you would think she would have taken a comment about a female gym goer not feeling comfortable around certain male gym goers more serious seeing as a few weeks after this a certain old man was texting under aged girls.

I highly do not recommend this gym. I sent the following email and didn't receive a response after…read morea few weeks. This facility is not promoting health, wellness, or safety for their members. Hello: My fiancé and I joined Key Fit Club a few months ago and were aware that the gym was beginning to transition to a new building. After a few particularly negative experiences I wanted to bring a few concerns to your attention. I am regularly observing members misusing equipment and not following a dress code. This is concerning from a health and safety standpoint. Although this is not an uncommon issue and happens at most gyms it is happening consistently enough it should be addressed with specific members to ensure the safety of all members. Members are not adhering to a basic dress code by not wearing shoes and socks and even taking off their shirt while working out. Specifically, members are walking to and from the bathroom and throughout the training area as well as training without socks or shoes. Unfortunately, I have witnessed gym employees misusing equipment and removing their shoes and socks to exercise as well. This is particularly concerning because of the standard that these behaviors set for other gym members to not use the facility in a safe and appropriate manner. There are regularly members of the gym using the facility while they are noticeably high. This is prevalent on weekdays between 5:00pm and 7:00pm and obvious due to the potent smell. I do not feel it is appropriate for this to be tolerated because of the overwhelming smell it causes in the gym. I am also concerned that this is happening while there are children's classes happening in the gymnastics gym next door. Due to the above concerns: improper use of equipment, lack of dress code, and marijuana use I do not feel like Key Fit Club is promoting a safe and healthy gym environment particularly for females. The gym should be a safe place for individuals to work towards their goals. My personal training has been disrupted and I have been distracted from my goals due to the above referenced issues I have experienced. I have become uncomfortable being at the gym without my fiancé or a friend there with me because of the actions of other members. I have experienced harassment in a gym setting before and believe the environment that is being cultivated at Key Fit Club is promoting gym harassment and gym intimidation. I understand the gym is in the process of transitioning and moving locations. When we joined, we knew we would need to exercise some grace for the transition process. I would like to see these issues addressed and changes made moving forward in the current and new facilities. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss this further. I look forward to hearing from you about how you plan to improve the member experience at Key Fit Club.
