I had seven teeth pulled and I had to get a partial. Okay fine! The partial looks darn good! I can smile again. My real issue was billing. When I started with the process I had one insurance carrier. In the middle I changed jobs and got a new one. They billed both insurances and still tried to collect $538 from me. Saying they couldn't see the other payment. I am showing you the EOB, I received. The woman at the front desk caught and attitude. I caught one back. You are not going to charge me when you charge both insurance companies and the amount they paid you was more than what I owed. I watch what I spend, who pays what and I know insurance in billing. I felt they either didn't think I understood EOB or thought I wouldn't pay attention. Now nasty attitude lady, wasn't at the front desk ironically when I came to get my partial. But she was there. However, the nice young lady who remembered my horrible attitude still gave me excellent service and went over with her manager my billing. No, attitude just smiled. Which in turn let me keep my cool. She sits away from the door with blonde hair. I wish I could rate every aspect separately. I am brave enough to show all the aspects so take what you may from the pictures. The dental hygienist was friendly, professional, and proficient. She took great care to make sure I was comfortable and was very patient with my needing frequent breaks, so a special thank you to Amanda! Dr. Schooner performed my post-cleaning exam and was relaxed, quick, and friendly. I also didn't wait very long past my appointment time. The appointment lasted about 1hr 15min or so, which actually isn't bad at all, considering I hadn't had a cleaning in 4 years, and that it was my first time at his practice so X-rays also had to be done. Overall I appreciate how they made an unpleasantness that is a dental appointment as painless as possible. I will definitely be using them for my primary dental care moving forward.

Well, because my dentist doesn't believe in pain. Woohoo!! Dr. Wald is Awesome (that's right, with a capital A). She's funny as hell, genuinely caring, and very, very good at her job. I am in pretty great shape since she put sealants on my molars several years ago, but I constantly recommend her to people who have had bad experiences or anxiety about needing dental work because she is really good about that sort of thing. One of my more nervous friends went for a crown replacement recently, and doesn't remember a thing after being told to "count to ten." Enough said. Great office, great staff. Everyone is really nice. They're about a half hour south of Dallas, and well worth the drive down if you ask me. I love her!!

Right after that she tells me how I have great insurance and that they cover a lot of my work that I need to have done. So right then and there I knew what type of dental office this was. I never mentioned to her that I was a former dental assistant, and that as I'm looking at my x-rays I don't see all these cavities that she's telling me I have. They didn't even clean my teeth because she wanted me to come back for the "deep cleaning". I was so disappointed that this type of clinic is even open in my town. I was able to finally get into another dental office where I was told I have no cavities, no gingivitis just a little inflammation around my gums. And they actually did the routine cleaning that I went in there for. Be careful if you go here and get a second opinion if they start saying you need a lot of work done. Especially if you have "great" insurance..

I am extremely upset with my experience at Ovilla Family Dentistry…read more On August 14th, I called Ovilla Family Dentistry to make an initial appointment for a cleaning and possible cavity to be filled. I spoke to Candace and asked if they accepted Cigna and she responded saying they do accept Cigna if it's a PPO plan (Which mine is. Also, I would like to add this is my first time using my dental insurance this year and my first year having Cigna for my dental insurance). Everything was great I scheduled the appointment for the following Friday at 10am. I arrived to my appointment 12 minutes late and the staff was understanding of my situation (my daughter woke up sick). Amanda asked for my ID and insurance card and then I waited a few minutes and was sent back to get my cleaning. The cleaning was awesome- probably the best cleaning I've had in awhile. The doctor informed me I had a significantly large cavity on my 2nd to last molar on the top left side, which she recommended I took care of immediately to avoid a root canal, cause it was that bad. I went to the front to check out and Candace printed off a sheet explaining how much my two cavities would be to fill. She said I had to pay a $100 insurance deductible and when I asked why it was so high she said that's just insurance... so with this being a new plan that I haven't used and being told they accepted my insurance, I just thought my insurance was crappy... fast forward to this past Tuesday, August 27th, after getting a very large cavity filled I went to the front to pay and was told my total was $301 (an extra $100 went toward some kinda lining they put around my root to avoid a root canal-- *$301 for 1 cavity*). I paid and scheduled my next appointment for the other cavity to be filled. Later on that night I looked at my Cigna app and said the EOB said they were indeed out of network. SO SO SO MISLEADING and wrong! When I called today, August 28th, to talk to Candace about the situation she said they record all their phone calls and she went back to listen to the 7 minute initial conversation and said you didn't ask if we were in network, you asked it we accepted Cigna (what is the difference?!) and I replied with yes we accept Cigna PPO plans. At that point I was so highly upset because she confirmed with me that she did in fact say they accepted Cigna PPO plans and had me under the impression I was being charge the in network percentage. If they were out of network her correct response should have been we accept Cigna but are not in network. From the time I scheduled, to arriving at my appointment and handing over my insurance card, to checking out, not once was I told they were out of network! That should have been explained. Insurance deductibles are confusing and insurance verification being one of her jobs should have been conveyed better. I would have gone elsewhere had I known on the initial conversation that Cigna wasn't in network, it would have been absurd for me to go somewhere not in network when A TON of dentistry's near me accept my PPO plan. I feel she didn't relay that I wasn't in network because I would have never gone or had any work done in the first place and that would have been business lost. With all this being said beware and know your deductibles before you go anywhere! I have reached out to our local news station to see what can be done about this situation as well. This is wrong.
