Crispy Grindz in Haleʻiwa has quickly become a spot I recommend, mainly because of their pao de queijo. They make them in a unique way, pressing the dough on a waffle iron so the outside comes out crispy and crunchy while the inside stays chewy. The four-pack is the way to go--plenty for one person and shareable for two, but I wouldn't try splitting it beyond that because you'll definitely want more than one for yourself. I've also tried the coxinha and the ham and cheese pastel, which were good, though not as much of a standout as the pao de queijo. Everything is served very fresh, so fresh in fact that I burned my mouth on the pastel because of the steam pocket inside, so it's worth letting things cool a little before biting in. Seating is all outdoors at picnic tables with umbrellas, and while there's usually space available, you might need to share a table if it's busy. There's no cooling, so it can get hot during the day even with the shade. Parking is on the street out front. I've never had trouble finding a spot, but pulling in and out can be tricky if there's traffic going by. Overall I'd give Crispy Grindz 4 stars. The pao de queijo alone makes it worth stopping for, while the other items I tried were good but not the best I've had. I haven't tried the bowls or other menu items, so I can't comment on those, but if you're in the area the pao de queijo is something I definitely recommend. read more

Selected 18 percent tip (lowest suggested amount) but total charge included a 47 percent tip. 3. They cheat customers when they give a refund. Originally charged $23.68 but only refunded $16.10. You can add other items - I like to add honey and my hubby likes adding blueberries, strawberries and peanut butter. Inconspicuous food truck selling delicious Brazilian Foods and Drinks. At first glance it doesn't look like anything special but the food they're turning out is sooo good, it's hard to pass up. We ordered 1 Coxinha and a Brazilian Limeade. The Coxinha was hot, steamy and packed with flavor! The cheese was extra melty straight from the fryer. The Limeade was pretty good but, towards the end of the drink, it got a bit bitter for my liking. The server we had was so nice, even helping us figure out how to say Coxinha (Co-Shin-Ha) properly. Outside of the base, each extra fruit or topping costs extra so my small bowl quickly became the highest priced item on the ticket. Companions ordered coxincha and said it was delicious. This food truck is open at the fisherman's wharf parking lot. Their 1st truck is located at sunset beach elementary school. They were on the TV channel 2 morning show letting everybody know if you stop by the food truck and mentioned channel 2 we saw them they offer 10% off. A friend of a friend had recommended the açaí bowls at Crispy Grindz to us, and while we were walking around doing some shopping in Haleiwa we figured we'd stop by to try it out! We absolutely loved the açaí bowls here - the texture of their açaí is not too icey but not too watery, almost like a froyo which is how I like it. The flavor was refreshing and full of color, and the granola and fruits were super fresh as well! There is a lot of picnic table seating outside the booth, and they make your bowls pretty quickly! My family and I love this little place. Their Patels are super delicious, although don't expect the pizza to be a traditional "pizza" filling. It is cheese with tomato and oregano it was still delicious, but disappointing to my kids who were expecting marinara sauce and cheese. The chicken and cheese and ham and cheese it really good! I had their banana and cinnamon which reminds me of banana lumpia. The wait times for the Patels can take a while because they fry it fresh for you but they are definitely worth the wait! The açaí bowl is not as sweet as other açaí places. I've been told it's because it's not as processed and the closest to actual açaí. I was on the north side and wanted to make the most of my time there so I tried an acai bowl from this truck located in the Lai'e Shopping Center parking lot. I was the only one there and the small acai bowl that I ordered ($8.99 + $1.50 for almond butter) took way longer than i think it should've. Maybe i was expecting too much because they said it was "The Real Brazilian Acai Bowl" but it just tasted like your average acai bowl. Creamier, I'll give it that, but nothing blew me away. On top of that, not only is it very pricey and only comes with banana and granola, but I swear over half of the bowl was granola. The shops in town usually skimp on granola and toppings, but I usually don't mind too much because i just throw in my own granola at home afterwards. For this one however, every bite of acai I had was accompanied by a mouthful of granola, to the point where I think it should've just been called a granola bowl with acai. read more

It's a huge fried wonton filled with stringy melty cheese and a slice of ham. It's the perfect snack/food for the beach. It's pretty much all I get here. I've tried the sweet pastel with strawberries and Nutella but was not a fan. If you want a delicious cheesy snack definitely stop by! 5 Stars for the pastel. The carne pastel in particular- although I also really liked the palmito. I liked that the pastel was big like the ones in Brazil. A purple food truck on the side of the rode with a Brazilian flag. I had driven past multiple times but didn't think anything of it until a coworker recommended I try. I tried the coxinha and a small açaí bowl without any additional toppings. They flash fry the coxinha in avocado oil, resulting in a crispy but light pastry. There was plenty of chicken and the cheese wasn't overwhelming. The fried dough had a warm, fluffy consistency. It was really, really good. Perfect before a hike. I recommend at least two to feel full. The açaí bowl was also really good. Their granola was super crispy also, like there was some puffed rice in it. They gave a good portion of banana and the açaí itself was good (may have been sweetened, but not overly so). If you're going through the north shore, this place is definitely worth the stop. Acai: The thing I love about their Acai bowl is that it is made out of pure acai with no added juice or other fruits which most of the acai stand in oahu do to make their acai base. The only downside is that you have to pay extra for other toppings. But if you prefer pure and natural açaí, this is my go to. On a relaxing Sunday, we decided to eat our way through Haleiwa. Crispy Grindz caught our attention with the promise of Brazilian fried street food. We tried the Chicken Coxinha--a soft dough, stuffed with shredded chicken and cheese, rolled in panko and deep fried. It sounds and looks great, shaped to look like a chicken drumstick. Texture wise, the dough had a sticky, gummy quality after it was fried, though I did like the panko breading. The filling was dry, more shredded chicken than cheese, and lacked seasoning. There are picnic benches to sit on in front of the truck and an Acai bowl if your looking for something fruity. If we ever venture back, I'd try the pastels instead. read more

My family and I have been coming to the Crispy Grindz food truck in Haleiwa for over two years now. The staff has always been very friendly & the Açaí bowls are amazing. Recently, the past two times we've gone..the staff weren't welcoming and were pretty rude. I waited for 5 minutes at the window (it's 10am..no one else in line or around me), and I'm patient so I don't mind, but at least maybe say "we'll be right there, or "Sorry for the wait!" As I leave I say "have a nice day" & the lady just turns her back. Their new employees don't show the Aloha spirit. We're getting skimped on the açaí bowls now too with the cup change.
